Parks and Recreation’s Tuesday Market opens June 4 for the 2024 season
The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market opens the weekday version of the Market for the 2024 season on June 4 from 4-7 p.m. at Switchyard Park, 1601 S. Rogers St. in Bloomington. Tuesday Market features farm vendors with fresh, locally grown farm products, and prepared food vendors who use locally made and grown ingredients in their ready-to-eat offerings. Admission is free.
Parking for the Tuesday Market is available in the Switchyard Park parking lot off Rogers Street; accessible parking spaces and EV charging stations are available near the Pavilion building. Vehicle parking is also available at the Grimes Lane and South Walnut Street entrances to Switchyard Park. Bike racks are located north of the Switchyard Park Pavilion. The Tuesday Market also doubles Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) dollars again in 2024. Use the Hoosier Works Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card to exchange SNAP benefits for Market Bucks at the Tuesday Market info tent. Spend up to $27 with an EBT card and get up to $54 of fresh food per visit. Market Bucks are available in $3 increments and can be used just like cash at the Tuesday Market to buy food stamp-eligible farm products.
Bloomington announces new Communications Director
Mayor Kerry Thomson announced that she has officially named Desiree DeMolina to serve as Communications Director for the City of Bloomington. DeMolina comes to the role from Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County, where she occupied the role of Communications and Marketing Manager.
Previously, DeMolina served as the Community Relations and Marketing Director at the Alliance for the Arts, a nonprofit visual and performing arts center in Fort Myers, FL. There, she developed the marketing and communications vision that enabled the Alliance for the Arts’ rapid growth into a leading cultural institution, significantly increasing its long-term sustainability and regional visibility.
In her new role, DeMolina will oversee the City’s communication efforts, including media relations, digital and social media strategies, public information dissemination, and community outreach.
Monroe County Sports HOF celebrates student athletes
The Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Congratulated 2024 Scholarship Athlete Award Winners in a ceremony held this last night as One Female and One Male from Bloomington North, Bloomington South, and Edgewood High Schools. Each of them received a $1,000 scholarship and the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame has awarded $72,000 in scholarships since 2011.
This Week in Hoosier History
1918 – Charles Warren Fairbanks died at his home in Indianapolis. He had served as United States Senator from Indiana and Vice President under Theodore Roosevelt. His body lay in state in the rotunda of the Indiana Statehouse.
