Bloomington PD seeks assistance
The Bloomington Police are seeking public assistance on a homicide that happened in late January of this year. 37 year-old Jade Sanders, described as a homeless woman was struck dead by a vehicle on South Walnut Pike on January 28th. If you have any information relating to the tragic event, please contact the Bloomington Police.

Big Lots to close 40 stores
The national discount retailer Big Lots has announced a possible filing for chapter 11 after a disappointing first half of 2024. In a news release they stated that as many as 40 of their nearly 1400 stores will likely be closed this calendar year, although they have not mentioned which locations. Big Lots has 45 stores in the Hoosier state.

New Angelo Pizzo movie to be filmed in Bloomington
Academy Award nominated director Angelo Pizzo is back at it, and has decided to film another movie, this time in his hometown of Bloomington. The story is set in the early 1960’s and he hopes to begin shooting this fall. If you have a vehicle that predates 1962, Blue Ace Media wants to hear from you for a chance to be part of the Hollywood experience.

Bedford man and mother arrested for beating Bloomington man
A 38 year-old Bedford man and his 56 year-old mother have been charged with burglary and battery of a Bloomington man. The pair are accused of kicking in the man’s door and beating him with a tire iron on Friday morning. Police arrived around 9:30 am to find the victim bloody and bruised. The mother had allegedly been staying with the man in his apartment, but no motive has been reported.

Free Certified Clinical Medical Assisting training course
Ivy Tech Community College is offering a free Certified Clinical Medical Assisting training course. The 16-week class will be held July 23 through October 31 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the North Lawrence Career Center in Bedford. Costs for the training course and certification exam are paid for by a grant from IU Health. The training course is designed to quickly prepare students for work as professionals in multiple healthcare settings.

People’s Park Concert
Free public music performance on Thursday this week. People’s Park on Kirkwood in Bloomington hosts Local Live performance every Thursday in the Summer from 4:30-6pm. July 18th, check out the experimental country rock of Gravy Bird.

State Police

1921 -The legislature created the Indiana Motor Vehicle Police, the first agency to have statewide jurisdiction to enforce state laws. The organization evolved into today’s Indiana State Police.
