23 year-old Bloomington man found dead in Owen County
The Owen County Sherrif’s Department has announced the death of 23 year-old Malik Sims, of Bloomington. Sims’ body was found on Monday on a gravel road near the Monroe and Owen County border. There is little which has been released regarding the incident at this point, including the cause of death. Any information which might be helpful in the ongoing investigation should be directed toward the Owen County Sherrifs Department

Storm Clean-up update
The clean-up of June 25th’s supercell storm continues throughout the region, but the time to register for debris pick-up in Monroe County has expired. The budget for the County is depleted. The timeline for the townships which have not yet been cleared will be adjusted over the coming days. Meanwhile, Bloomington City Government has added to their budget, bringing the total contract up to $500,000. The city will request reimbursement funds through the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the cost of their clean-up.

Food Truck Friday and Trivia Championship at Switchyard Park
Today’s Food Truck Friday at Bloomington’s Switchyard Park features 10 trucks from which to choose as well as a pair of musical performances Ehaesi takes the stage at 6pm and the music of Peyton Womock begins at 7:15pm. And the Pavillion at Switchyard Park will play host to the Bloomington Trivia Championship Series starting at 7pm. Come on down and register your team of 6 for a chance to be crowned the next City Triva Champs.

Bloomington to install heat sensors
The City of Bloomington has announced that they will begin installing heat sensors across the community in the coming weeks. The devices, attached to light posts, will measure and monitor heat exposure. Indiana University’s Healthy Cities Lab will install 13 sensors across Bloomington sites that were chosen based on land cover characteristics, such as permeability or tree canopy, and areas potentially vulnerable to high heat exposure. The sensors will measure temperature, relative humidity, and dew point over the coming 12 months.

History Club to feature talk on local limestone origins
The Monroe County History Club will offer their next luncheon lecture on Tuesday, July 30 at the American Legion Post on West Third Street. The title is The Hoadley and Matthews Families: Pioneer Stonemen, and the presenter is Dr Clay Stuckey. The event will begin at noon and will discuss the history of the limestone industry. CATS TV will be on hand to record the event for those unable to attend in person.

Shatoyia Moss to take over Bloomington’s Department of Community and Family Resources
Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson has appointed Shatoyia Moss as the Director of the Department of Community and Family Resources. Moss, has been serving as the interim director since May 20 after Beverly Calendar-Anderson’s retirement. Prior, Moss had been running Bloomington’s Safe and Civil City Department
