City of Bloomington Utilities Issues Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for Monroe County
Last Friday the City of Bloomington Utilities Department established a precautionary Boil Water Advisory throughout Monroe County, which is in effect until 9am today. The cause of the warning was related to a violation of drinking water standards. The Friday evening result of a regularly scheduled monitoring for specific contaminants showed turbidity levels above the maximum level of 1 Unit permitted by the rule. Because of these high levels, there is an increased chance that the water may have contained disease-causing organisms. We will keep you informed if further action is required past 9am today.
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard Garden Gala on Friday, August 23rd
’s time for the 12th annual Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard: Garden Gala, Friday August 23rd is your chance to be a part of their signature fundraising event from 630-9pm at their facility on West Allen Street in Bloomington. Indiana State Police now hiring Analysts
The Indiana State Police is accepting applications for five (5) Criminal Analysts II positions to serve in the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center (IIFC) in Indianapolis. The job is to perform analytical tasks on criminal intelligence in order to support law enforcement functions relating to their “all Crimes, all Hazards” mission. Applications are accepted electronically via the ISP online portal. Deadline for submission is Sunday, September the first.

Courts issue Stay on new Indiana law
A controversial Indiana law was upheld by the courts on Friday afternoon. A stay was issued to the state of Indiana after a Judge had initially blocked the law back in June, which forces Hoosiers to upload personal information to prove that they are over the age of 18 when wishing to enter adult websites. The court agreed that the Indiana new law is similar enough to one in Texas which has survived appeals believing it violates free speech.
Debut of Wipeout at Constellation Playhouse
Bloomington’s Constellation theatre will debut a new play entitled Wpeout. The production directed by Daniella Wheelock is described as a poignant comedy about friendship, grief, and the unpredictable tides of life. See it on stage September 5 – 29 at the Constellation Playhouse.
This Week in Hoosier History
1909 – The first automobile race was held at the new Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 5-mile dash was a disaster as a result of the breaking up of the crushed rock track. Six people died. Louis Schwitzer won with an average speed of 57.43 mph.
