Missing Greenwood child found in pond
The body of a 4-year-old girl who went missing while visiting family in Greenwood was found in a pond on Sunday evening. The girl had been missing for about an hour before first responders recovered her from the water. CPR was unsuccessful, and the child passed at hospital. The matter is still being investigated.

Bloomington artist goes viral for front yard sign
Local Artist Laura Brikmanis has been featured in Newsweek for a viral Social Media Post. The post displays a picture of a sign Brikmanis placed in front of her Bloomington home, warning of potential falling walnuts from a mature oak tree in her side yard. The walnuts have been known to wreak some havoc. The sign also offers free walnuts to any passersby.

2 winning Powerball tix sold in Indiana
Two winning Lottery tickets have sold in Indiana. This weekend’s Powerball numbers were 4-34-35-38-69 with a Powerball of 19. One of the $50,000 winning tickets was sold at Mimi’s Market in Lebanon and the other was sold at a Speedway gas station in Southport.

Abbie Thomas to release second studio album this month
Indiana Independent Singer Songwriter Abbie Thomas is just weeks away from the debut of her second studio album, entitled Not Gonna Lie. Thomas, the 2023 JMA Artist of the Year award at The Grand Ole Opry, has been touring regionally, opening for artists such as Clint Black, Laine Hardy, and Girl Named Tom. Till My Last Breath is the 3rd advanced single off the album recently released along with an accompanying video.

IU researchers secure 5-year funding to study AI approach to Breast Cancer treatment
Indiana University School of Medicine researchers are leading a multi-site study to use a privacy-preserving artificial intelligence approach, called federated learning, to improve breast cancer risk prediction and reduce health inequities in cancer prevention care. A new five-year, $3.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute is funding the research.

Local restaurants now line the concourse of Memorial Stadium
This past weekend was the kickoff of the IU Football season, but inside of Memorial Stadium it was also the unveiling of some local collaborations. Six local restaurants debuted inside the concourse. Aver’s Pizza, Baked! Cookies, BuffaLouie’s, Everbowl, Social Cantina, and Yogi’s are now food options at the concourse of memorial Stadium, joining veteran vendor the Chocolate Moose.

This Week in Hoosier History

1911 – Madame C. J. Walker applied for incorporation of her cosmetics company in Indianapolis. She became the first woman millionaire in the United States. Walker made her fortune by developing and marketing a line of cosmetics and hair care products for black women through the business she founded, Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company. She became known also for her philanthropy and activism. She made financial donations to numerous organizations.
