Lauren Cupp gets 11 years for firing weapon toward Police
36 year-old Lauren Cupp of Zionsville has been sentenced to 11 years in prison following a guilty verdict last January of two counts of resisting law enforcement and two counts of neglect of a dependent. The charges stemmed from May of 2023, when Cupp fired a weapon at police that attempted to arrest her on an outstanding warrant, as she walked with her children through a subdivision of Whitestown, IN.

Ivy Tech hosts annual 9/11 Ceremony
And Bloomington’s annual 9/11 commemorative ceremony will be Wednesday morning at 9 am at the Ivy Tech Bloomington Campus 200 Daniels Way. Mayor Kerry Thomson will be the Key Address Speaker. The event will include a wreath laying by a Firefighter’s Bell Ceremony.

Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build is on Day 4 of completing 2 local houses
Today is  Day 4 of the 2024 Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County Women’s Build. The volunteer group will work to construct 2 homes in a 3-week period. Since 2001, the Monroe County Women+ Build community has built 35 homes and raised over $3 million, helping to house 90 individuals, including 45 children. For this year’s project, the local habitat has raised $196,000 of their $240,000 goal.

Bloomington’s Glow in the Dark Scavenger Hunt
Switchyard Park in Bloomington will play host to a Glow in the Dark Scavenger Hunt on Friday, September 20th. The event is billed for all ages, and will run from 8:30-10:30pm. The cost is $4 to participate. Attendees can work together to find clues and solve the riddle to earn a glowing treasure prize.

IU Trustees will meet Sept 12-13
The Indiana University Board of Trustees will meet Sept. 12 and 13 in Indianapolis. The meeting will take place at the Madam Walker Legacy Center in Indianapolis. A schedule and an agenda for the meeting are available on the Board of Trustees website. The IU Board of Trustees is Indiana University’s governing board, its legal owner and final authority.

This Week in Hoosier History

2003 – Indiana Governor Frank O’Bannon suffered a stroke at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago. He died five days later at age 73 and was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
