Ivy Tech opens new Nursing School building
Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington has constructed and completed the new Lee. J. Marchant School of Nursing expansion on its main campus. Students began using the new nursing skills lab and classroom space on August 19, the first day of the fall semester. The 4,000 sq. ft. expansion was made possible through a $1.2 million Community Impact Investment Fund grant from Indiana University Health.

Pilot survives private plane crash in Indiana
An 83-year-old pilot survived a plane crash yesterday afternoon after losing control of his Cessna 170A into a field near Indiana’s Turkey Run State Park. The Pilot, who was headed from Illinois to Kentucky, made the distress call himself survived with no injuries more serious than scrapes and some bruises. The incident is under investigation by the FAA.

Monroe County Fall Festival begins
The Monroe County Fall Festival begins tonight in Ellettsville. This year’s celebration runs from the 12th to the 14th and includes 16 food trucks, 35 craft vendors, 40 local commercial vendors, a parade, Queen contest, Baby Contest, Car Show, 2 stages of local performing artists, and plenty of kids activities.

Indiana Aviation Hall of Fame inducts 2024 Members
The Indiana Aviation Hall of Fame will honor its 2024 class during its anquet and induction ceremony at 6 p.m. on Sept. 21 in Carmel, Indiana. Honorees are NASA Astronaut Joseph P. Allen IV, decorated Vietnam pilot Wil A. Davis, Purdue University Aviation Educator Larry W. Gross, Retired Air Force Maj Generals Dr. Worthe Holt, Jr, and John D Riddle, And US Army Veteran and Indiana State Representative Edmond Soliday.

Valparaiso to sell art work
Amid declining student enrollment, Valparaiso University has opted to sell 3 works of art in order to fund freshman dormitory renovations. Three works will be placed on the market, including the Georgia O’Keefe painting, entitle, Rust Red Hills, believed to be worth around $15 Million. Valparaiso’s student population has reduced each of the previous 5 years.

Volunteer painters sought
The City of Bloomington is inviting members of the community to participate in the Duke Mural Community Paint Day on Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event is at the Duke Energy Substation located at the northwest corner of W. 11th St and N Rogers St. Participants will help create the first mural in a series planned for the substation walls.
