Excitement Builds as Indiana University Men’s and Women’s Basketball Holds School Media Day Indiana University Men’s and Women’s Basketball Programs Hosted their 3rd annual institutional media day on Wednesday Afternoon. Head Coaches Teri Moren and Mike Woodson met with the media in the Simon Sjkodt Assembly Hall Press Room and the players on the practice courts of Cook Hall.  Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mike Woodson spoke first and with a transformation of a new roster he likes what he has seen so far with this team. “I have really no complaints with this group. They seem to like each other and they’re all pushing for the same thing, and that’s to win basketball games.” Woodson Said. Indiana won 19 games last season but declined a bid to the NIT and hit the transfer portal hard and Woodson with so many new players it will be a challenge to see how much depth there is on this team. “Only time will tell, man. If I can play 10 guys, I’m gonna play them and give everybody a shot to play.” There are still injury issues as Redshirt Freshman Jakai Newton is not 100 percent after he missed all of last season with knee issue. “He’s had some good days. … He still hasn’t fully recovered. He’s had some good days, but we can’t consistently keep him in practice and on the basketball court yet.”

The Hoosiers added 6 transfers in the off-season and Freshman Bryson Tucker along with 6 returning scholarship players including Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway. For Langdon Hatton after transferring from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky and growing up in Southern Indiana his choice of the playing for the Hoosiers was an easy one. ” There is no other choice when you grow up in Indiana and it’s the mecca of basketball”. Hatton Said. Seven-Footer Dallas James played at South Carolina State and said when he gets to play in Simon Sjkodt Assembly Hall for the first time “It will be electric ” and his dad NBA Veteran Jerome James said that when Indiana called to offer him a scholarship he said “Take It what are you waiting on””. James joined the team in August and didn’t expect to transfer to this high level of program but is thankful for the opportunity to play for Mike Woodson and the Hoosiers.

Women’s Basketball Head Coach Teri Moren took the podium and having three former players now as part of the staff is good not only for Moren but for her team. “It’s pretty cool to have Key (Keyanna Warthen) and Ali (Patberg) and Mack (Mackenzie Holmes) in the suite upstairs and on the floor.”  Moren knows that having these players back gives her that feeling of building her team the right way. “When you have former players who want to come back and be a part of your program, that speaks to a lot of things you’ve done right” Moren Said.  Indiana had to replace Mackenize Holmes and Sara Scalia and brought in a pair of transfer who have played against IU with Karoline Striplin from Tennessee and Shay Ciezki from Penn State and Coach Moren knew that they had to jump into quick to get a chance to land them saying it’s like “speed dating.” The Hoosiers return fifth year Seniors Sydney Parrish and Chloe Moore-McNeil, and she is happy to have them back for their last ride.  “To have (Sydney Parrish) come back and to have her be an Indiana kid, it’s been great for us. … Syd has always been about her team” Moren Said.  “She represents this university and this program in such a great way.” Moren added.

For Karoline Striplin playing against Indiana was a big factor and they checked all the boxes in her joining the program for her final season. “Getting to play Indiana definitely influenced my descion I knew the grit and toughness that they played with and how good a basketball team they were when we scouted them” Striplin Said. “I feel like is going to help me grow my game and I have learned so much already just over the summer”. The Alabama native had never played in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall before, but she can wait to step out on the court for the first time wearing the Cream and Crimson. “I am so excited I have seen pictures, but I have never played here or been to a game, but I have seen video, its going be awesome I can already tell” Striplin said. While she knows all the words to Rocky Top, she still learning the IU fight Song and looks forward to playing in the Big Ten after her battles in the SEC and said the Big Ten “As a whole has changed” with the additions of USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington.

Shay Ciezki knows that when she faces Penn State for the first time as a member of the Hoosiers it’s just another game. “I think it’s going to be like any other game I still have my love for all my people at Penn State, but I have one goal in mind and that is to win, it will be cool to play them just on the opposite side” Ciezki said. She is looking forward to playing in front of Hoosier Nation for the first time as a Hoosier and knows that level of fandom goes up a notch when she came here. “I found out quicky that they bleed basketball here and being on the side where they cheer for you and not against you will be cool. Coach Moren describes her as a “Bulldog, and she is thankful for the opportunity and all the support she has received since she arrived in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers return 9 players from a season ago and add three freshmen with Faith Wiseman from Indian Creek HS along with Sydney Fenn from New York and Valentina Kadlecova from the Czech Republic. Fenn knew from the moment she stepped on campus that this was the place for her. “Culture, Team Dynamic and when I was on my visit I just knew and know I am going to work I am ready and excited” Fenn Said. Faith Wiseman has always wanted to play for Teri Moren and now her dream comes true playing for the team a mere, Half Hour away from her house. ” I will be nervous and excited at the same time” Wiseman said when putting on the Hoosier Uniform for the first time.  Hoosier Hysteria is Friday October 18, less than month and the buzz around both basketball teams is like the crowd in Simon Sjkodt Assembly Hall every night which is electric.
