17th Ranked Indiana Football Kicks Off Season at 18th Ranked Iowa

The 17th Ranked Indiana Hoosiers Football Team kick off the 2021 season with Big Ten Conference and season opener at 18th ranked Iowa tomorrow at 3:30 PM on the Big Ten Network. The Hoosiers will be kicking off there 137th year of Football and the 3rd time the open the season with a Big Ten opponent in the last five years under head coach Tom Allen, the other two were a loss to Ohio State in 2017 and last year’s overtime against Penn State both in Bloomington. The Hoosiers are ranked in the preseason for the first time since 1969 and has appeared in the AP and USA Today Coaches poll for 11 straight weeks in a row which is a program record.  Indiana has won 15 of the last 17 season openers including a thrilling 36-35 overtime victory over 8th ranked Penn State. IU and Iowa will meet for the 4th time in season opener. The Hoosiers beat Iowa 30-26 on September 8th, 1979 in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes beat the Hoosiers in Bloomington 27-0 on September 29th, 1956 and 16-7 on September 13th, 1980. This will be the first time since 2014 that the Hoosiers will visit Iowa. Kirk Ferentz is longest tenured coach in the Big Ten he is 168-106 starting his 23rd season and the all-time winningest coach at Iowa and the 4th most in the Big Ten History.  Tom Allen is 24-22 and the most wins for an Indiana Coach in his first four seasons.

All Three Monroe County Schools on The Road for Week 3 Of High School Football

Bloomington North, Bloomington South and Edgewood all hit the road for week 3 of the High School Football Season. The Bloomington Schools are in Terre Haute while Edgewood invades Indianapolis. Bloomington North 2-0 takes on 0-2 Terre Haute South. The Cougars are averaging 51.5 points per game and giving up 21.0. Crosstown Bloomington South 2-0 takes on 1-1 Terre Haute North. The Panthers are averaging 47.5 points and giving up 20.0 per game. This is the Conference Indiana opener for both schools.   Edgewood 0-2 is looking for its first win of the season when they take on Indianapolis Washington 1-1. Edgewood won last years meeting 34-0 on the red turf September 4th,2020. Kickoff for Edgewood is 7 PM while Bloomington North and Bloomington South Kick Off at 7:30 PM.  

Hoosier Cup Soccer Tournament at Karst Park Farm Park This Weekend

The Annual Hoosier Cup High School Girls and Boys Soccer Tournaments will take place on 7 fields at Karst Farm Park on the westside of Bloomington Tonight and Saturday.  18 Girls and 14 Boys Teams from all over Indiana will play 3 games each in 2 days.  There are 4 boys pools and 5 Girls Pools named after Bloomington Soccer pioneers, they are Nick Matavuli, Warren Brown, Michael O’Dea, Ella Bull, Joe Kelley and Gwen Paulk. On the Girls Side Bloomington North will play Seymour at 8:20 this evening, South Knox at 10:50 AM and Evansville North at 6:10 PM tomorrow. Edgewood will play Indy Genesis at 6:30 PM tonight, Terre Haute South at 10:50 AM and Concordia Lutheran at 4:20 PM Tomorrow. Bloomington South will take on Richmond at 10:10 PM this evening, East Central at 12:40 PM and Washington at 6:10 PM Tomorrow. On the Boys Side Bloomington North will take on Valparaiso at 6:30 PM tonight, Zionsville at 9 AM and South Bend Adams at 2:30 PM. Lighthouse Christian will face Martinsville at 6:30 PM Tonight, Center Grove JV at 9:00 AM and West Vigo at 2:30 PM. Edgewood will face Indy Genesis at 10:10 PM tonight, Merrillville at 12:40 PM and Mooresville at 6:10 PM Tomorrow. The Hoosier Cup is Indiana’s Premier High School Tournament hosted by Bloomington North.

Indiana Women’s Soccer Beats Western Michigan 2-1

Indiana Women’s Soccer beat Western Michigan 2-1 Thursday Night at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Broncos got on the board first with a goal from Bailey Korhorn at 41:34 mark for her 4th goal of the season. The Hoosiers got goals Jen Blitchcock at the 59:54 mark and Jordyn Levy 16 seconds later. The Hoosiers outshot the Broncos 25-2 with 10-2 shots on goal. Western Michigan made 8 saves while Jamie Gerstenberg made 1 save and she has given up 2 goals in 5 games with 3 shutouts. New Zealand Olympian and Sophomore Gabi Rennie game off the bench to get her first shot of the season. Rennie since returning from The Tokyo Olympics this summer has played in all four games and got the start at Memphis. The Hoosiers are 3-1-1 and will host Southeast Missouri State on Sunday Night at 7 PM.
