Senator Braun issues Public Safety Plan for Hoosiers
US Senator Mike Braun, Indiana’s Republican gubernatorial candidate, released a public safety plan this week. Braun’s plan offers a 6 bullet point approach toward public safety that would focus on if elected. Confronting the drug crisis, Enforcing laws, Prioritizing school safety, Supporting law enforcement, Tackling illegal immigration, and Treating mental health with “seriousness.” Braun will face Libertarian Donald Rainwater and Democrat Jennfer McCormick in the November General Election.

New Executive named at The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington, have announced the hiring of Leslie Abshier as their next Chief Executive Officer. Abshier has over a decade of service to the Club as the Vice President of Resource Development. She will assume the role on January 1, 2025 following the end of the calendar year retirement of Jeff Baldwin, who has led the club since 2006

62 guns have been stopped by TSA in Indiana this year
A recent report has been released stating that TSA has stopped over 5,000 guns at airport security checkpoints throughout the country so far this year, with 93 percent of those guns being loaded. 62 of those were stopped at the Indianapolis International Airport between January and September 1st of this Calendar Year. Officers have screened over nearly 700 million passengers thus far in 2024, a 6% increase from last year.

Bloomington Fire Department observes Fire Prevention Week with local students
The Bloomington Fire Department (BFD) is participating in Fire Prevention Week with a focus on this year’s theme, “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!” BFD has scheduled field trips to fire stations and classroom visits to teach students about fire safety. And also requests that residents:

  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on each level of the home.
  • Test smoke alarms monthly and replace every 10 years or when the fail to test properly.

Skate & Scare October 19th
Skate and Scare is confirmed Saturday, October 19th from 7-9pm. The annual Bloomington tradition is returning to Frank Southern Ice Arena for all ages. Ice skate in your costumes and tour the locker rooms-turned-haunted as many times as you dare! A special torch can be held for those wishing for a milder haunting. $6 admission + $3 skate rental.
