17th Ranked Indiana Falls At 18th Ranked Iowa 31-6

The 17th ranked Indiana Football Team struggled all day as they lost to 18th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes 31-6 last Saturday Afternoon in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes struck 1 minute and 25 seconds into the game when Tyler Goodson scored on a 56-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0. Michael Penix Jr who was making his first start since a Torn ACL Injury last October against Maryland went 14-29 for 156 yards with three interceptions, two of those by cornerback Riley Moss were returned for touchdowns. Coach Tom Allen was not pleased with the offense in his post-game press conference. “The Offense was really disappointing, I take responsibly for it, we’ve got to get things fixed”.  The Hoosiers scored on two Charles Campbell field goals and offense had 233 total yards and three turnovers. Allen was not pleased with the running game who had 31 carries for 71 yards. “We have to execute. You Can’t turn the ball over. We didn’t run very effectively. You got to play high level football right out of the gate and we did not” Allen said. Iowa had 303 yards of total offense and 145 passing yards and 158 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns and 2 field goals to go along with the defensive touchdowns. Iowa has the increased the nations longest streak to 23 games when holding teams to under 35 points.  The Hoosiers will open the home season this Saturday in Memorial Stadium when they take on the Idaho Vandals at 7:30 PM with the game being shown on the Big Ten Network. Idaho is 1-0 beat Division 2 Simon Fraser University from Canada 68-0 in their home opener last Saturday.

All Three Monroe County Football Teams Get Week 3 Road Wins

All three Monroe County High School Football Teams were able to get road wins for week 3 of the High School Football Season. Bloomington North beat Terre Haute South 35-8 in the Conference Indiana Opener. The Cougars have averaged 46.0 points through 3 games while giving up 16.7. Bloomington South beat Terre Haute North 36-20 in their Conference Indiana Opener. The Panthers are averaging 43.7 Points and giving 20 through 3 games. This sets up the city showdown this Friday between Bloomington North and Bloomington South. Both the Cougars and the Panthers are unbeaten and ranked and will be a jam-packed house on the southside at 7 pm this Friday Night. Edgewood is 1-2 after a 49-18 road win at Indianapolis Washington. The Mustangs are averaging 29.0 points and giving up 31.3 through three games. Edgewood will travel 10 miles down the road this Friday to take on the Owen Valley Patriots at 7 PM. Owen Valley is 3-0 after two road wins at South Putnam and Indian Creek along with a home win against Brown County in Week 1. The Patriots are looking to bring the Black and Blue Trophy back to Spencer for the first time since 2017. Owen Valley is averaging 38.7 points and giving up 8.7 though the first three games.   

Indiana Women’s Soccer Blanks Southeast Missouri State

Indiana Women’s Soccer beat Southeast Missouri State 6-0 at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers scored early and often all six 6 goals coming before halftime. Jen Blitchok scoring at the 8:07 mark for her second goal of the season. Jordan Levy scored her third goal of the season at the 10:40 mark. Avery Lockwood scored her second goal of the season at the 17:45 mark. Then three Hoosiers scored their first goal of the season with Anna Bennett at the 21:25 mark, Sofia Black at 35:11 and Bria Telemaque at the 41:31 mark. The Hoosiers outshot Southeast Missouri State 24-0. The Hoosiers had 18 shots on goal and make the RedHawks save 12 of those shots. New Zealand Olympian Gabbi Rennie came on a substitute and had her second shot of the season and has played in all 5 games. Jamie Gerstenberg played the first half in goal before Caitlin Arbuckle started the second half and played until 32:34 left to go before Coast Liapis played the final 12:26 to give all three Hoosiers a piece of the shutout. The six goals were the most in a half in program history and tied for third most in a match in program history. The Hoosiers are 4-1-1 and will host Murray State at 7 PM Thursday Night at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

Bloomington South Girls Soccer Wins Hoosier Cup Joe Kelley 10 Division

Bloomington South Girls Soccer won the Joe Kelly 10 Division at the Hoosier Cup over the weekend at Karst Farm Park on the Westside of Bloomington. The Panthers beat Richmond 8-0, East Central 1-0 and Washington 5-0. Bloomington North went 0-3 as the Cougars lost to Seymour 3-1, South Knox 1-0 and Concordia Lutheran from Fort Wayne 3-1. The Edgewood Girls went 1-2 as the beat the Bloomington South JV 1-0 but lost to Terre Haute South 1-0 and Concordia Lutheran 3-1, On the Boys Side Bloomington North went 0-3 losing to Valparaiso 2-0, Zionsville 3-1 and South Bend Adams 2-1. Lighthouse Christian went 1-2 beating West Vigo 2-1 as the Lions lost to Martinsville 3-0 and Center Grove JV 9-1. Edgewood went 0-2 falling to Indy Genesis 4-0 and Merrillville 9-0 as their scheduled 3rd game with Mooresville was canceled. On the Girls side Terre Haute North, Concordia Lutheran and Martinsville won the other pools and the pool involving Bloomington North did not declare a winner due to schedule changes with teams not being able to play all three games. On the Boys side South Bend Adams, Center Grove JV and Pike all won their pools and Indy Genesis and Merrillville were declared Co-Champions.
