Two Indiana University Men’s Soccer Players earn Big Ten Weekly Awards For the second-straight cycle, two Indiana men’s soccer student-athletes were among the Big Ten weekly award winners announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Graduate forward Justin Weiss was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and junior defender Quinton Elliot earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors. The pair combined for six G/A as Indiana went 2-0-0 in the match week, outscoring No. 18 Michigan and Michigan State 8-1.

Weiss is the attacker of the week for the second time in his career, last earning the distinction for Northwestern in 2023. The junior opened his Hoosier account with three goals on the week. He scored twice in the 5-0 win at Michigan to become the fifth unique Hoosier in five matches to record a brace. Weiss then opened the scoring in the 3-1 win over Michigan State. The graduate transfer eclipsed the 20-career goals milestone, bringing his five-year total to 22 goals. Indiana is one of two programs in NCAA Division I men’s soccer with three 20-career goal scorers on its roster with Weiss joining senior forwards Samuel Sarver (22) and Tommy Mihalic (22).

Playing outside back roles, Elliot contributed to IU’s perfect week from end-to-end. Elliot scored one of IU’s five goals at Michigan, dribbling from midfield before firing a laser from outside the box. The junior also provided assists from throw-ins in each match. Indiana’s clean sheet against Michigan was its second in a row after blanking Penn State the week prior. The Hoosiers had shut out opponents for 276 consecutive minutes – the equivalent of three matches – before allowing a penalty to MSU in the 42nd minute, its lone concession of the match week. Elliot was also named Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week honorable mention on Tuesday. Indiana has produced the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week in consecutive cycles as senior defender Jansen Miller earned the nod on Oct. 15. Midfielder Charlie Heuer earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week laurels in the last cycle, as well.

Indiana University Women’s Basketball lands first commitment for the 2026 Class Indiana women’s basketball has landed a commitment from class of 2026 guard Ashlinn James. She announced her decision on Instagram on Monday. The 5-foot-9 Louisville native is the first-class of 2026 player to commit to Teri Moren’s program. The Hoosiers offered James a scholarship after she attended Hoosier Hysteria in 2023, and she took an unofficial visit to Bloomington in late August. Her offers included Miami (Fla.), Marquette, Saint Louis, Western Kentucky, North Carolina A&T, Murray State, and Bellarmine. Prep Girls Hoops has ranked James the No. 1 class of 2026 player in the state of Kentucky. James recently joined the West Virginia Thunder AAU program, which is the same program that 2025 IU commit Maya Makalusky has also played for.

E.J. Williams Jr. is no longer with the Indiana University Football Team Indiana has lost another talented contributor in the receiver room. E.J. Williams is no longer with the program. Williams has dealt with multiple injuries since arriving from Clemson ahead of the 2023 season.  He had just two catches for 49 yards this season in four appearances.  Nine IU players have had more receptions in 2024, including six receivers. Williams also missed a meaningful part of spring practice and fall camp with injuries. “Got to get him on the field and keep him on the field,” Curt Cignetti said of Williams at Big Ten media day in July after noting his talent as a receiver. “That’s the biggest thing, the best ability is availability. You got to stay on the field and that’s been his biggest nemesis.”

A season ago, Williams caught 23 balls for 281 yards for the Hoosiers across eight games.  He played particularly well late in the season. The news follows the departure by Donaven McCulley earlier in the month.  Both players struggled to make a dent in the rotation this season under the new coaching staff.  And while they both brought IU a taller target with big play capabilities, the Hoosiers haven’t missed a beat without their production. Indiana brought in a talented group of receivers via the transfer portal during the offseason, including Elijah Sarratt (32 catches, 578 yards, 3 TDs), Myles Price (23 catches, 289 yards, 1 TD), Miles Cross (24 catches, 273 yards, 3 TDs) and Ke’Shawn Williams (14 catches, 182 yards, 4 TDs). Williams was a consensus 4-star recruit out of high school.
