#13 Indiana University Football stays unbeaten with a 31-17 win over Washington The 13th Ranked Indiana Hoosiers beat the Washington Huskies 31-17 Saturday afternoon at sold-out Memorial Stadium in Bloomington to remain unbeaten at 8-0 and 5-0 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers have tied the 1967 team for the best start in school history and Big Ten History. That team went to Rose Bowl and were conference co-champions. This is the 9th time in program history the Hoosiers have won eight games in a season. Curt Cignetti is 8-0 as the Hoosier head coach and is the sixth coach in Big Ten History to start 8-0 in the first Big Ten Season joining Carroll Widdoes of Ohio State, Bennie Oosterbaan of Michigan, Earle Bruce, Urban Meyer and Ryan Day all of Ohio State. The Hoosiers eight game winning streak ties a program record with the 1945 and 1967 teams. The Hoosiers never trailed and along with Army remain the only teams that have not trailed in game this season. Indiana and Army are the only teams win all their games by double digits after Navy lost to Notre Dame on Saturday in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Hoosiers defense got things started when D’Angelo Ponds timed a perfect Will Rogers screen pass and returned it 67 yards to put the Hoosiers on top 7-0 with 7:31 left in the first quarter. The Hoosiers are one of four teams to score first in every game this season along with Army, Ole Miss and Boise State. Indiana held the Huskies scoreless in the first quarter and the Hoosiers remain the only FBS team to not allow a first quarter score. Ponds picked Rogers off a second time to start the second quarter, and the Hoosiers responded two plays later with a 42-yard touchdown pass from Tayven Jackson to Omar Cooper Jr. as the Hoosiers took a 14-0 lead with 13:24 left in the second quarter. Washington scored on a 5-yard run by Giles Jackson with 10:34 left in the second quarter to trail 14-7. Nicolas Radicic hit a 19-yard field goal with no time left in the second quarter to send the Hoosiers to the locker room with a 17-7 lead. In the second half Tayven Jackson threw an interception and Demond Williams Jr. scored on 8-yard touchdown run to cut the Hoosiers lead to three with 12:45 left in the third quarter. Indiana’s running game got going with Justice Ellison scoring a 5-yard touchdown with a 5:03 left in the third quarter to put the Hoosiers up 24-14 with 5:03 left in the third quarter. Jackson scored on a two-yard touchdown run with 8:55 left in the fourth quarter to put the Hoosiers up 31-14. Grady Gross added a 23-yard field goal to complete the scoring with 6:06 left in the fourth quarter.
Jackson finished 11-19 passing for 124 yards 1 touchdown and 1 interception and had 6 carries for 17 yards and a rushing touchdown. Justice Ellison continues to be a force for the Hoosiers as the carried the ball 29 times for 123 yards and a touchdown and has scored a touchdown in 7 straight games and his fourth 100 yard plus rushing game of the season. Ty Son Lawton had 12 carries for 41 yards as the Hoosiers ran the ball 52 times for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nine different Hoosiers caught the ball as Miles Price and Zach Horton caught it twice and Omar Cooper Jr, Miles Cross, Eilijah Sarratt, Ke’ Shawn Williams, Kaelon Black, Justice Ellison and Ty Son Lawton all had one reception. Indiana finished with 312 yards offense, 20 first downs, 8-15 on third down conversions and 1-2 on fourth downs. The Hoosiers ran 71 plays and were 3-3 in the red zone and controlled the ball 31 Minutes and 27 seconds. Indiana’s offensive line protected Jackson as they did not allow a sack the entire game. Indiana had 1 penalty for 5 yards.
Washington finished with 318 yards of offense. Will Rogers was 19-26 for 202 yards passing and 2 interceptions. Demond Williams Jr was 0-1 passing. Jonah Coleman had 104 of the Huskies 116 rushing yards and 19 of the 31 carries. 7 different Huskies caught the ball as Denzel Boston the Huskies top receiver was held to 43 yards and 4 catches. The Huskies had 16 first downs, went 3-11 on third down conversions and 1-3 on fourth downs. The Huskies ran 58 plays and were 3-3 in the red zone and controlled the ball for 28 minutes and 33 seconds. The Huskies had 5 penalties for 33 yards and Rogers was sacked three times. Washington drops to 4-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Big Ten and have lost all the conference road games and have one more cross-country road trip coming up November 9 at Penn State. The Hoosiers are 3-1 all time against the Huskies and 2-0 in Bloomington as the Huskies traveled to Bloomington for the first time since 1978.
It was a special day in Bloomington as ESPN’s College Game Day made its first ever Saturday appearance and second ever appearance after a special Thursday Night show on August 31, 2017, against Ohio State. Lee Corso who coached the Hoosiers from 1973-1982 was going to be here as the 1979 Holiday Bowl Team who beat BYU was honored with a reunion has been part of the Game Day show since it started traveling weekly to College Campuses in 1993. Corso is known for putting on a headgear of the team that he predicts to win that day but since the Hoosiers do not have a mascot, he was wearing his trademark Indiana Sweater that he coached in and put on the 1979 Holiday Bowl Hat and said, “Go Indiana Beat Purdue”. Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thompson presented Corso with a proclamation on the show proclaiming Lee Corso Day in Bloomington Saturday. Former IU Baseball player Kyle Schwarber who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies was the celebrity guest picker and wore a baseball helmet and Indiana Football Jersey. Schwarber, Corso along with former Indianapolis Colts Kicker Pat McAfee and Former Alabama Football Coach Nick Saban who Curt Cignetti coached under from 2007-2010 all picked the Hoosiers to win while former Ohio State Quarterback Kirk Herbstreit and former Michigan Wide Receiver Desmond Howard picked Washington to win the game. The crowd was electric as fans lined up starting at 11 am Friday Morning and camped out all night for the three hour show that started at 9 AM Saturday Morning. Indiana continues to show week in and week out that this team is the real deal, and they can do something that has never been done before in program history and that is start a season 9-0 but it will be tough road trip at Michigan State next Saturday that will be the next challenge for the Hoosiers.
No. 22 Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Soccer Beats the No. 15 UCLA Bruins in Los Angeles No. 22-ranked Indiana men’s soccer (8-3-5, 6-1-2 B1G) made the most of its trip out west, defeating No. 15 UCLA (6-4-5, 3-3-3 B1G) Friday (Oct. 25) night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium for its fifth-straight victory with a 2-1 win over UCLA. With the win over the Big Ten Conference newcomer, Indiana gained three points in the league table and moved into the first place with 20 points from a 6-1-2 conference record. The Hoosiers have a chance to clinch a share of the regular season title with a win and Ohio State draw or defeat on Tuesday. Graduate forward Justin Weiss’ fourth goal in three games and senior forward Samuel Sarver’s fourth of the year were enough to beat the Bruins in a 2-1 result.
In the 25th Minute a Josh Maher pass from midfield found junior defender Quinton Elliot past his marker on the right wing. Cutting in, Elliot passed inside to Weiss, who scored with a right-footed finished across his body. In the 38th Minute UCLA saw three shots in and around the box blocked in a 10-second sequence. After recycling, the ball was played through to Bruin senior defender Pablo Greenlee. Senior goalkeeper JT Harms got fingertips to Greenlee’s shot to push it into the post before leaping on the rebound. In the 60th Minute after leaping to push a shot over the bar, Harms collected the resulting corner. Seeing Sarver making a run, Harms booted the ball right into the forward’s path. Sarver dribbled diagonally past his defender as scored into the bottom left corner. Five Minutes later UCLA cut into the deficit as graduate midfielder Edrey Caceres fired a rocket into the side netting.
Indiana extended its unbeaten streak to eight games, in which the Hoosiers have a 6-0-2 record. IU has scored 22 goals in that stretch – an average of 2.75 goals per game. The 2-1 victory extends Indiana’s run of multi-goal performances to eight matches, its longest such streak since 1997. Amid that run, Indiana is 6-0-1 during the month of October. Over the last four years, Indiana is 23-4-6 (.788) in the month of October. IU owns a 314-56-41 (.814) October record all-time. The Hoosiers are 3-1-2 against ranked opponents this season, winning its last three Top 25 matchups. Indiana improved to 12-8-0 against the Bruins all-time and has won six of the last seven meetings. The Hoosiers have won the last three meetings in Los Angeles. Justin Weiss, the reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, scored his fourth goal in three games. Samuel Sarver has scored in consecutive matches and has totaled five G/A in as many games. His 11 points in conference play ranks tied for No. 2 in the Big Ten. Quinton Elliot the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, has totaled four G/A in three games. J.T. Harms earned his first-career assist with his contribution to Sarver’s goal. Indiana will host Northwestern on Tuesday at 8pm on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium, its final Big Ten Conference match of the regular season. Fans can purchase tickets here.
Indiana University Wrestling concludes Wrestle Off’s in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall Friday Night Indiana Wrestling hosted its annual wrestle-offs on Friday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The winners of the matches included: Henry Porter (141), Bryce Lowery (157), Gabe Sollars (197), Anthony Bahl (149), Angelo Rini (133), Nick South (174) and Tyler Lillard (165). The wrestle-off matches served as the unofficial start of the team’s season ahead of its first official competition in the team’s dual on Friday, Nov. 1 at Cal Baptist. There were no bouts at 125, 184 and 285 lbs.

Bloomington South Boys Soccer heads to State Finals after beating Southport in the Semi State The Bloomington South Boys Soccer Team beat the Southport Cardinals 5-2 Saturday Evening for the Class 3A Boys Soccer Semi State Championship at Martinsville High School. The Panthers are 20-1 on the season and will face the Harrison Raiders from West Lafayette on Saturday at 11 am in the Class 3A State Championship Game at Michael A. Carroll Stadium in Downtown Indianapolis. The Raiders are 18-0-4 on the season and beat Concord 1-0 in other Semi State match at South Bend St Joseph’s.
This is the first time that Bloomington South has won the Semi State and advanced to the State Finals in Boys Soccer. The Panthers scored 2 Minutes and 28 seconds into the match when Joe DeGiorgio found Stefan Bartlett off a corner kick to knock it home to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Bartlett scored in the 37th minute with the assist to Konrad Polit for Barlett’s brace. The Panthers led 2-0 at the break and the Cardinals got one back just 3 minutes and 11 seconds into the second half when Joshua Antunez scored off a free kick to make it 2-1. The DiGiorgio to Bartlett combination struck a second time in the 50th minute to give Bartlett the hat trick and 3-1 Panthers lead. DiGiorgio set up Konrad Polit who set up Gus Hanjorgiris for the Panthers fourth goal of the game with 26:15 left in the match to go up 4-1. Di Giorgio found the net for the first time with 25:25 remaining as Southport’s goalkeeper mishandled the ball and he slammed it home for the Panthers 5-1 goal of the match. Southport scored on a goal by Dieu Ebuela with 17:56 left to make it 5-2 Panthers as they hold on to book their first ever trip to the State Finals while Southport ends its season with a record of 11-8-3.
Bloomington North Boys Cross Country takes home the Evansville Regional Title Bloomington North won with a score of 51 points at the Boys Cross Country Regional at Angel Mounds in Evansville Hosted by Evansville Mater Dei Saturday Morning. Edgewood finished 4th with 164 to advance to the State Finals. Bloomington South finished 7th with a score of 237 and will not advance as team but Freshman Chase Norris will advance with a 16th place overall finish as he qualifies as one of the top 15 individuals not on an advancing team. Evansville Reitz was second with 58, Columbus North third with 82 and Floyd Central fifth 197. It’s the 3rd straight Regional Title for the Cougars and 20th in Program History. Evansville Reitz Senior Jackson Nolan won the Individual Regional Title. Bloomington North Junior Jacob Mitchell finished second, Edgewood Senior Zane Meyer finished 3rd and Bloomington North Senior Caleb Webb finished 5th overall in the Individual Standings. The Boys State Finals will take place this Saturday at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute starting at 2:30 PM.
Bloomington South finished second with a score 82 to at the Girls Cross Country Regional at Angel Mounds in Evansville hosted by Evansville Mater Dei Saturday Morning. Bloomington North finished 5th with 157 as both the Panthers and Cougars advance to the state. Edgewood finished 6th with 216 points, and they won’t advance as a team, but they advance Hannah Crain and Ellie Vagedes who finished 4th and 21st overall and they advance as the top 15 individuals not on advancing team qualify for the State Finals. Bloomington South Sophomore Lexi Kollbaum finished 3rd overall and teammate Junior Aurelia Martgolio finished 9th overall in the Individual Standings. Columbus North won the regional with a score of 45, Floyd Central finished third with 109 and Jasper fourth with 138 to round out the advancing teams. Columbus North Senior Clarys Glyn Jones won the Individual Regional Title. The Girls State Finals will take place this Saturday at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute starting at Noon.
Edgewood Football ends its season with a Sectional Loss at Indian Creek The Edgewood Mustangs Football Season came to an end Friday Night with a 35-7 loss to the Indian Creek Braves in the Class 3A Sectional 31 Tournament First Round. The Mustangs finish 2-8 on the season for the fourth straight season and have lost four straight sectional openers since 2021. Indian Creek is 5-5 on the season and will travel to North Harrison Friday Night at 7pm for the Sectional Semifinal. Indian Creek scored on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Evan Clark to Jaxon Ramey with 5:52 left in the first quarter to make 7-0. The Braves scored 4 touchdowns in the second quarter to make it 35-0 going into the locker room and a running clock in the second half. Indian Creek outgained Edgewood 322-58 in the first half. Edgewood scored its only touchdown when Lincoln Getts picked off an Indian Creek pass and took it back 12 yards with 8:31 left in the ball game. Edgewood ends the season with a six-game losing streak and were outscored 321-130 averaging 13 points per game on offense and giving up 32.1 points per game on defense. Scott Fischer will go into this 3rd season with a young team that looks to build on from the growing pains his team has experienced the last two seasons.
