#13 Ranked Indiana steamroll Sparty to start 9-0 for the first time ever The #13 Ranked Indiana Hoosiers trailed 10-0 at the end of the first quarter and they responded by scoring 47 points in the final three quarters to steamroll the Michigan State Spartans 47-10 Saturday Afternoon at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan. Indiana is 9-0 for the first time in program History and 6-0 in the Big Ten. This is the third time in the 137-year history of the team that the Hoosiers have won nine games in a season. 1945 team finished 9-0-1 and won the outright Big Ten Championship. The 1967 team finished 9-1 and split the Big Ten Championship and lost in the Rose Bowl to USC. The 2024 Hoosiers will look to win 10 games for the first time ever when they host Michigan Next Saturday at a Sold-Out Memorial Stadium. Curt Cignetti is 9-0 as the Hoosier Head Coach and James Sheldon in finished 8–1-1 in his first season and Cignetti stands alone as the Only IU Coach to start 9-0 in his first season and have the most wins.

The Spartans scored with 9:58 left in the first quarter when Jonathan Kim hit a 47-yard field goal as Indiana gave up a first quarter score for the first time all season and trailed. Michigan State put the Hoosiers on their heels with 2:39 left in the first quarter when Aidan Chiles threw an 18 Yard touchdown pass to Nick Marsh to make 10-0 and Hoosiers were facing adversity for the first time all season and how would they respond. Kurtis Rourke who missed the Washington game with a thumb injury started and after a tough first quarter found his groove and found Zach Horton for a 17-yard touchdown pass just 47 seconds into the second quarter as the Hoosiers trailed by 3. Ty Son Lawton scores on a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:22 left in the second quarter and the Hoosiers had the lead 14-10. Rourke found Elijah Sarratt on a 4-yard score with 2:10 left before the half to give the Hoosiers a 21-10 lead. Indiana’s Defense responded with two Amare Farrell Interceptions in the Second Quarter as the went 10 points down after the first quarter to 11 points up at halftime.

In the second half Indiana did not let off the gas pedal as Rourke threw 2 more touchdown passes to Myles Price and Elijah Sarratt along with an Omar Cooper Jr touchdown run and a Nicolas Radicic 29-yard field goal. Indiana brings home the Old Brass Spittoon and outscored the Spartans 47-0 in the final three quarters. Rourke finished 19-29 for 263 yards with 4 touchdown passes and no picks and offensive line did its job and did not give up a sack and the offense had no turnovers. 7 Hoosiers carried the ball for a combined 122 yards on 32 carries and 2 touchdowns. Ke’Shawn Williams led the Indiana Receivers with 6 catches for 86 yards. Michigan State is 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the Big Ten. Aidan Chiles finished 16-24 for 193 yards with a touchdown and 2 Interceptions and was knocked out of the game in the second half due to injury. Tommy Schuster finished 4-8 for 36 yards passing. The Spartans running game finished with negative 36 yards rushing on 32 carries. The Hoosiers outgained the Spartans 385-193.

Indiana has won every game by double digits, and they are one of two teams in FBS along with Army that has accomplished that feat. Army beat Air Force 20-3 and is now the only team that has scored first, won by double digits and never trailed this season. For Indiana the turnaround to what has been the best start in School History is nothing short of remarkable and with three regular season games left along with a possible Big Ten Conference Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff the record book will continue to be rewritten.

Pat Knight Returns to Simon Edwardsville Assembly Hall Exactly One Year after his Father Bob Knight Passed Away to lead Marian University against his Alma Mater  On November 1, 2023, Hall of Fame Basketball and longtime Head Coach Bob Knight passed away at age 83 and one year later his son Pat returned to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall as the Men’s Basketball Head Coach of NAIA Marian University in Indianapolis. Indiana dominated the exhibition game 106-64 Friday Night in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.  It was a very emotional return for Pat Knight, his mother Nancy and Marian Athletic Director and Former Indiana University Player Steve Downing who all received a standing ovation when they were introduced. Pat Knight went out and kissed IU logo at center court. The Marian coaches and players wore red warm-up T-Shirts in tribute to Bob Knight with a quote “The mental is to physical as 4 is to 1.”  The Hoosiers wore Adidas Shoe that were made in Honor of Coach Bob Knight for this game. 

Knight was hired by Marian Athletic Director and Former Indiana University Player Steve Downing on May 8, as the programs 10th Men’s Basketball Coach. The 54-Year-Old played at Indiana from 1991-1995 and won 87 games as a player under his father and Hall of Fame Coach Bob Knight. Knight played at Bloomington North and attended New Hampton Prep School in New Hampshire before Coming to IU. He played in 112 games and scored 138 points. Knight was an assistant coach under his dad at IU from 1999-2000 before moving on to Akron for the 2000-01 season and then an assistant at Texas Tech for his dad from 2001-03 then associate head coach from 2004-08 before he took over as the head coach at Texas Tech from 2008-11 and then Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas from 2011-14 with an overall record of 79-123 and 2012 NCAA Tournament Appearance. Pat Knight was hired by the Indiana Pacers on July 1, 2014, as the Indiana Pacers West Coast College Scout. 

Marian has 11 players on the roster from the State of Indiana and the other three are from Ohio. Marian finished 23-8 and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago for Head Coach Scott Heady who left to become the head coach of the University of Indianapolis. Pat Knight has 3 upperclassmen with two Seniors and Junior along with 3 Sophomores and 8 Freshman on this year’s team and should be another good season for team that is picked to finished 6th out of 10 teams in the Crossroads League. Indiana has won all four meetings against Marian and are 32-0 all time in Exhibition Games against Non-Division 1 Opponents since the 2004-05 season. Indiana won 94-61 last season and 78-42 in 2022. 

Indiana jumped out to a 5-0 lead and then led 11-2 with 15:49 left in the first half. Indiana had a size advantage the Hoosiers dominated in the paint early and often and led 50-25 at halftime. Malik Reneau led the Hoosiers with 12 points and Seven-Footer Oumar Ballo who transferred from Arizona added 10 points going 4-4 from the field and pulling down 5 rebounds. Indiana was 23-35 for 67 percent in the first half but 1-11 from three-point range and 3-7 from the free throw line. Gus Etchison who played his high school ball at Hamilton Heights and Western Michigan scored 11 first half points. Marian was 10-35 from the field for 28%, 4-18 from three-point range for 22% and 1-2 from the free throw line. 

The Hoosiers outscored the Knights 56-39 in the second half. The Hoosiers were led by Freshman Bryson Tucker with 19 points off the bench, Malik Reneau added 18 points, Oumar Ballo added 14 points and was a perfect 6-6 from the field. Langdon Hatton and Mackenize Mgbako added 10 points each. Indiana was without Anthony Leal and Kannan Carlyle as 13 of the 15 Hoosiers that played score. Jakai Newton who made his debut after missing his freshman season due to injury got a layup in the first half in 12 minutes of action. “It was great to be out there, it’s been so long” Jakai Newton Said after the game. ” The Coaches have been holding me back in practice but i feel 100 percent ” Newton Added.  The Hoosiers finished 46-70 from the field for 65%, 6-25 from three-point range and 8-14 from the free throw line for 71%. The Hoosiers pulled down 48 rebounds, dished out 33 assists, 70 points in the paint and committed 10 turnovers. Leal was injured during the Tennessee game with a knee injury and Carlyle has bruised ribs according to Mike Woodson, but he was not clear on the extent of the injury and said he will be back eventually. 

Marian was led by Gus Etchison with 19 points and hit 4 three pointers. Dylan Moles who is a Sophomore from Greenfield-Central High School added 12 points. The Knights finished 26-71 from the field for 37%, 8-26 from three-point line for 30% and 4-9 from three-point range for 44%. Marian pulled down 28 rebounds, 10 assists, 24 points in the paint and committed 8 turnovers.  Coach Mike Woodson was happy to have both Pat Knight and Steve Downing back in the building, but he was happy to have Nancy Knight back in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. “I haven’t seen Mrs. Knight in 40 years and to have her back means a lot and Pat means a lot to the program because of his dad” Mike Woodson said after the game. The Hoosiers will kick off the regular season Wednesday at 8pm hosting Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.  

#25 Indiana opens the 2024-25 Women’s Basketball Regular Season hosting Brown  The Indiana Hoosiers welcome in the Brown Bears to kick off the 2024-25 Women’s College Basketball Regular Season tonight at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall at 7 pm with the game streaming on Big Ten Network Plus. This will be the second all-time meeting between the Hoosiers and Bears as Indiana won 72-63 in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on November 25, 2000. The Hoosiers are coming in with a 95-27 win over Division II Maryville University from Missouri in the team’s lone exhibition game. All 11 Hoosiers that played in the game scored. Yarden Garzon led Indiana with 20 points, Lilly Meister added 19 points, Penn State Transfer Shay Ciezki scored 14 points and Sydney Parrish scored 12 points and pulled down 13 Rebounds. Parrish collided with a Maryville player early in the Third Quarter and was shaken up and was taken to the locker room and when she came back to the bench, she had her right ankle taped. Head Coach Teri Moren said after the game that Parrish could have returned to the game and decided to hold her out for precautionary reasons and should be available tonight. 

Juliana LaMendola pulled down 10 rebounds and added 7 points and the Hoosiers have a deep roster with 14 players but will have 13 available for the season after Coach Moren announced that Freshman Sydney Fenn will redshirt after having offseason knee surgery. Junior Lexus Bargesser and Sophomore Lenee Beaumont are dealing with injuries and both will be back this season. Indiana fell in the Sweet 16 last year to National Champion South Carolina and graduated the programs all-time leading scorer and three-point sniper Sara Scalia. Coach Moren has stated many times that you can’t replace Mackenize Holmes, but Lilly Mesiter will be one to count on along with Graduate Transfer Karoline Striplin from Tennessee to help fill that void left by Holmes who will be on the Hoosiers bench as Graduate Assistant. Ciezki who has played against Indiana the last two seasons for Penn State is a player that can run the offense and shoot three pointers and Coach Moren has said in the preseason that Ciezki and Striplin transition to Indiana has been seamless and fit in so well. 

Indiana has been hard to stop inside and against Maryville they went to work early in often in the paint scoring 44 points, 24 fast break points, 22 bench points, 14 points off turnovers and 10 second chance points. The inside game opened up the outside game as the Hoosiers hit 10 three pointers and dished out 21 assists. The Hoosiers are tough on defense and held Maryville to 27 points on 9 field goals and three of those from beyond the arc and hit six free throws. The expectations are high once again for the Hoosiers with 9 straight 20-win season and hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournaments the last three season and attendance that has packed Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. 

Brown is located in Providence, Rhode Island finished 16-11 overall and 7-7 in the Ivy League a season ago. The Bears return Junior Grace Arnolie who averaged 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists and was an all-Ivy League Honorable Mention selection. Junior Alyssa Moreland averaged 6.5 rebounds, and Senior Isabella Mauricio has drained 178 three pointers in her career for fifth best in program history. Brown has 12 player roster that represents Washington, California, North Carolina, Illinois, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas and New Jersey. Monique LeBlanc begins her fifth year at Brown after she was hired in April 2020 but the 2020-21 Season was Canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic so she her fourth season with Bears after she won 129 games at Merrimack College in nine seasons from 2011-20. Le Blanc is 33-46 at Brown and 162-167 overall with four winning seasons. Le Blanc is a Cumberland, Rhode Island native and played at Bucknell University leading the Bison to 2002 NCAA Tournament. Le Blanc was an assistant coach for her alma-mater from 2005-08 and Northern Arizona from 2008-2011. 

Bloomington North wins the Boys Cross Country State Title  The Bloomington North Cougars won the Boys Cross Country State Championship Saturday Afternoon at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Championship Course in Terre Haute with a score of 105 points. It’s the second State Title for the Cougars and the first since 1980 but Head Coach Charlie Warthan has been the head coach for both of them 44 years apart.  Noblesville finished second with 115 points, Brownsburg was third with 172 followed by Northridge with 181 and Fishers with 198 to round out the top five. Edgewood finished 25th with a score 561. Senior Sam Quagliaroli of Fishers won the Individual State Title and the Mental Attitude Award. Bloomington North Junior Jacob Mitchell finished 5th and his classmate Caleb D’Onforio finished 13th. Edgewood Senior Jackson Klinger finished 41st as the highest Mustang finisher and Bloomington South Freshman Chase Norris finished 102nd. 

Bloomington South finished 9th overall with 289 points and Bloomington North 24th with 225 points in the Girls Race. Edgewood’s Hannah Crain finished 22nd and Ellie Vagedes finished 186th. Bloomington South Junior Aurelia Martgolio was the highest Panther finishing in 23rd and Bloomington North Junior Hayden McGuire was the Highest Cougar finisher in 147th. Carmel won the State Title with 76 points and Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran Junior Mallory Weller won the Individual State Title. 

Bloomington South’s Brayden Doyle wins the Class 3A Boys Soccer Mental Attitude Award as Panthers Finish State Runner Up  The Bloomington South Panthers lost to the Harrison Raiders from West Lafayette 1-0 in the Class 3A Boys Soccer State Championship Game at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on the Campus of Indiana University-Indianapolis Saturday Morning. Bloomington South finishes the season 20-2 and a 19-game winning streak was snapped. Bloomington South had 4 shots all in the second half for Head Coach Corbin Calvert. Senior Brayden Doyle was named the Mental Attitude Award. Doyle is ranked 18th in his Senior class and is a member of the National Honor Society. Doyle has been a three-year captain and a four-year varsity player for the Panthers. Doyle is a two time All-District, All-Conference and All-State Honorable Mention Player. Doyle is undecided on a college choice and plans to study Kinesiology and Physical Therapy. This was Bloomington South’s first State Finals Appearance in Boys Soccer. The Panthers lost their second game of the season to Center Grove 3-0 and that was the only time they have trailed coming into the match and since that point had outscored their opponents 88-12. 

Harrison wins their Second State Championship for Head Coach Bryan Clouse to go with 2017 in their third appearance after falling short in 2015. The Raiders finish the season with an 19-0-4 record ending the season with a 14-game winning streak and 11 by shutout. The Raiders scored in the 46th minute with Junior Franklin Caceres finding the net. Caceres broke through a back of players at the top of the box and launched past Bloomington South Goalkeeper Owen Gerber for the game winner as the Raiders had 18 shots for the match. Sophomore Adam Schneider made 2 saves and got the shutout for the Raiders between the pipes. 

Bloomington North and Bloomington South win Class 5A Sectional Semifinal Football Games The Bloomington North Cougars and the Bloomington South Panthers made the long trip to Terre Haute and both game teams came back to Bloomington Friday Night with a Class 5A Sectional 15 Semifinal win and will meet for the Sectional Championship Next Friday at Bloomington North at 7pm. Bloomington North beat Terre Haute North 27-13 and Bloomington South took care of Terre Haute South 42-14.

Bloomington North is 8-2 on the season for first year Head Coach Anthony Lindsey. The Cougars have won two in a row and 8 of the last nine including a 31-14 win over its crosstown rivals at home on September 13. The Cougars lost on the road to Mooresville and Columbus North by a combined 4 points. Bloomington North scored first, and Terre Haute North tied it at 7-7 with 6:06 left in the first quarter. The Cougars scored two more times to make it 21-7 at halftime. The game was scoreless in the third quarter as both teams scored 6 points in the fourth quarter as Bloomington North will play in the Sectional Championship Game for the fourth time in the last five seasons and are looking for their first Sectional title since 2013 and just the third in program history.

Bloomington South led 21-7 at halftime and outscored the Braves 21-7 in the second half to improve to 6-4 on the season. The Panthers have won the last three Sectional Championships and all three years they have ended Bloomington North’s Season. Bloomington South has won 18 Sectional Championships in program history. Bloomington South dominated with 478 yards of total offense. The Panthers had 41 carries for 330 yards as Braylen Townsend had 230 yards and 3 touchdowns. Duncan Combs passed for 148 yards and 2 touchdown passes completing 13 of his 18 passes. Terre Haute South was limited to 230 yards of total offense. The Braves had 110 yards on 22 carries and attempted 30 times for 120 yards. Sam Giles caught 6 passes for 68 yards and 2 touchdowns for Bloomington South. Bloomington South is 10-2 all time against Bloomington North in Sectional Matchups and 2-1 in Sectional Championship Games. Bloomington North win in 2013 24-21 while Bloomington South won 24-17 in 2021 and 28-7 in 2022. Bloomington South leads the all-time series 49-16 dating back to 1972 and the latest chapter in the city battle will be written next Friday Night on the Northside of Bloomington as the Cougars will look to sweep their city rivals or the Panthers keep the Sectional Title on the Southside for the fourth year in a row and send the Seniors out in style without a sectional loss
