Indiana Football Host Idaho in Home Opener
The Indiana Hoosiers football team are back in action tomorrow night when they host Idaho Vandals in Memorial Stadium at 7:30 on the Big Ten Network. Indiana is coming off a 34-6 loss at 18th ranked Iowa a week ago. The Hoosiers were preseason ranked 17th and fell out of the top 25. Indiana scored on two Charles Campbell field goals. Michael Penix Jr will look to rebound after a 3-interception performance a week ago and get this high-profile Hoosier offense in the right direction. Penix threw two pick sixes in the game last week. The Hoosiers will play in Memorial Stadium for 62nd year and 43-18 in home openers. Idaho is in the Big Sky Conference and will play the Hoosiers for the first time ever and the first time the Hoosiers face a Big Sky Opponent in Football. Paul Petrino is in his 9th season as head coach at Idaho. He is 31-59 Overall and 21-33 in the Big Sky, Petrino led the Vandals to victory in the 2016 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Vandals beat Division II Simon Fraser University 68-0 in the Vandals home opener in Moscow last Saturday afternoon. This will be the only time that Vandals head east of the Mississippi River this season and there are no Indiana natives on the Idaho roster along with no Idaho natives on the Indiana Roster.
City Bragging Rights on The Line in Football as Bloomington North Takes on Bloomington South
The Southside of Bloomington will be the place to be tonight at 7 PM as Bloomington North takes on crosstown rival Bloomington South. Both Teams are 3-0 and ranked in the top 10 in Class 5A. The Panthers are ranked 6th in the AP and 5th in the Coaches Poll. The Cougars are ranked 8th in the AP and 10th in the coaches poll. This is the first time that Bloomington North has not been 3-0 since the 2003, The Cougars lost at Franklin Central 34-21 in the 4th game that season on September 12th. The cougars were 3-0 in the 2002 season and lost at home to Franklin Central 42-21 September 13th. The Panthers are 3-0 for the first time since the 2015 season when they started 11-0 and fell to Castle in the Regional Championship Game 45-26 on November 13th in Newburgh. South Leads the all-time series 44-14 dating back to 1972 and the Panthers has an 7-2 advantage in sectional meetings. South has won 9 of the last 10 meetings with the Cougars winning in 2019 38-27 at Bloomington South.
Edgewood-Owen Valley Football Game Canceled
Tonight’s Edgewood at Owen Valley Football Game has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Edgewood Program. Edgewood and Owen Valley also had their Volleyball and Boys Soccer game canceled earlier this week and both are rescheduled for September 23rd. The Football Teams were meeting for the 50th time in the series with Edgewood leading the all-time series 32-17 and they play for the black and blue trophy which is the colors of both programs. Edgewood was 1-2 and Owen Valley was 3-0 coming into the game. Owen Valley last beat Edgewood 31-7 on September 8th, 2017 in Spencer.
Indianapolis Colts Host Seattle Seahawks in NFL Season Opener
The Indianapolis Colts kick off the 2021 NFL season by hosting the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at 1 PM at Lucas Oil Stadium with the game televised on FOX. The Colts hosted a limited number of fans for each home game in 2020 and were the only NFL team to do so a season ago. This year the Colts are expected to have a full house for each home game and this Sunday’s game will be sold out. The Colts finished 11-5 and lost in the AFC Wild Card game at Buffalo 27-24 on January 9th. The Colts have had several quarterbacks over the years since the shocking retirement of Andrew Luck in August 2019. The Colts traded for Carson Wentz from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason. Wentz missed the entire preseason with foot issues and is expected to start this Sunday after getting cleared to practice this week. The Seattle Seahawks finished 12-4 and lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the AFC Wild Card Game 30-20 on January 9th.
