Indiana University Football Lands University of California Wide Receiver Jonathan Brady Indiana has found needed help at slot receiver for 2025. Cal transfer Jonathan Brady will reunite with Fernando Mendoza in Bloomington this year. Over three college seasons, the 5-foot-10 and 180-pound Brady has played 41 games. He has amassed 98 career receptions for 1,317 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had no drops on 49 targets this year and has only has three drops on 149 career targets. A versatile weapon, Brady has also rushed 23 times for 140 yards during his career, returned 11 punts for 101 yards, and 17 kickoffs for 317 yards. In 2024, he had 36 catches, 386 receiving yards and three touchdowns for the Bears.  He played in all 13 games and saw 487 snaps.  Brady played on the outside for significant snaps due to injuries but will likely be a slot receiver for the Hoosiers.  He played almost exclusively at slot receiver over his first two seasons of college. Brady transferred to California ahead of last season.

A product of Bishop Gorman H.S. in Las Vegas, Nev., Brady committed to New Mexico State out of high school.  He was a two-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. In two seasons with New Mexico State, Brady posted 62 catches, 931 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Brady should have one year of eligibility remaining. Indiana lost projected starting slot receiver Tyler Morris for the season due to a spring knee injury.  Morris had transferred in from Michigan and should be available in 2026. Brady will join a talented receiver room that includes Elijah Sarratt, Omar Cooper, E.J. Williams and Makai Jackson.

Indiana Fever beat the Washington Mystics 79-74 in Overtime in Their Only Preseason Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse The Indiana Fever began the 2025 preseason at Gainbridge Fieldhouse with a 79-74 overtime win over the Washington Mystics.  After a slow start to the game, a spark off the bench from Sophie Cunningham in the second quarter helped Indiana go on a 17-5 run to cut the Mystics’ lead to five entering halftime.   With 1:26 to go in the third quarter, Indiana took its first lead since scoring the opening basket of the game, a three-pointer by Aliyah Boston, on a Cunningham layup, putting the Fever ahead 52-51. A late push from the Mystics in the fourth quarter saw the two sides go back and forth through the remainder of regulation and a set of late-game free throws from Cunningham left the game tied 71-71 with :12 left on the clock. Washington was unable to convert in the final moments, sending the game into overtime.  A strong defensive stand and clutch points from rookie Makayla Timpson and newcomer Jaelyn Brown in overtime helped lift the Fever over the Mystics for the overtime victory.   Newcomers DeWanna Bonner, Jaelyn Brown, Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham, Yvonne Ejim, Natasha Howard, Makayla Timpson and Brianna Turner all made their Fever debuts, with Ejim and Timpson making their professional debuts as well. Aliyah Boston scored the Fever’s first points of the preseason, opening the game with a three-pointer 21 seconds in.        Makayla Timpson scored her first professional points in overtime, the Fever’s first basket of the extra period. The Fever were without Cailtin Clark who missed the game due a left leg injury.

Indiana University Softball Wins Rivalry Series at Purdue to Finish Regular Season Indiana split the doubleheader with Purdue on Saturday afternoon, losing the first game 2-0 and winning the second 10-2 in five innings in Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette. With the Hoosiers taking the second game, Indiana won the series in their final regular season game. Indiana closed the regular season with a 32-17 overall record and a 10-12 mark in the Big Ten. In the first game, Purdue took an early 2-0 lead, and the score held for the remainder of the game. Julia Gossett doubled to bring Khloe Banks home. In the bottom of the second inning, Delaney Reefe came home on a groundout to put the score at 2-0. Indiana had runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings but could not bring any home.

In game two, Indiana jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With two runners on, Kinsey Mitchell bunted for a single and brought Brianna Copeland home in the process to make it 1-0. In the next at bat, Avery Parker advanced home on a Purdue error to extend the lead. The Hoosiers continued to do damage in the second inning as Josie Bird hit a home run over the right center wall and Copeland hit an RBI double to score Alex Cooper and make it 4-0. Melina Wilkison had two RBI on a triple to left center before she scored on a wild pitch to bring the lead to 7-0 in the top of the third inning. Purdue got on the board when Alivia Meeks hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut into the lead and make it 7-2. Indiana immediately responded with a 3-run fifth inning. Bird doubled to score Madalyn Strader, then Wilkison hit another triple to score Bird. From there, Cooper laid down a sac bunt and scored Wilkison, pushing the lead to 10-2 and setting up the defense in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the run rule.

Wilkison is only the eighth Hoosier to have two triples in a game and the first since Jennifer Gluckert did so against East Carolina in 2009. Bird’s home run was her fifth of the season. Copeland’s win in the circle was her second of the weekend and it was her second complete game, as well. She improved her season record to 16-7. Copeland, Parker and Bird each hit a double in game two. Indiana outhit Purdue, 10-2 in the second game. Indiana will be right back in West Lafayette for the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday. The Hoosiers’ seeding and opponent is still to be determined. The conference tournament will take place May 7-10.

Indiana University’s Madison Dabagia and Caroline Smith Take Aim at the NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals Indiana junior Madison Dabagia and fifth-year senior Caroline Smith will play as individuals in the 2025 NCAA Lexington Regional to be played at the Keene Trace Golf Club Today through Wednesday in Kentucky. There are 12 teams in the field that include Florida State, USC, TCU, Vanderbilt, Kansas State, Georgia Southern, Pepperdine, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Western Kentucky, Morehead State, FDU. Six Individuals are in the field Emma Bunch (New Mexico State), Gabi NiCastro (Samford), Marta Lopez Echevarria (Kentucky), Madison Dabagia (Indiana) Caroline Smith (Indiana) and Jasmine Driscoll (Ball State).
 
Individual play will begin this morning at 9:50 a.m and on all three days of competition. Dabagia and Smith will be paired with Jasmine Driscoll of Ball State for the opening round. The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site will advance to play in the championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. The championship rounds will be contested from May 16-21.
Dabagia played all 30 rounds for the Hoosiers this season and posted a team-best stroke average of 73.07. The Iowa transfer played 11 rounds at or under par, earned four top 10 finishes, and placed inside the top 5 in two events this season. She is the 178th ranked player according to Clippd. Smith appeared in the IU lineup for all 30 rounds this season and finished with a stroke average of 73.33. She played a team-best 12 rounds at or under par and earned five top 20 finishes this season. She is the 201st ranked player according to Clippd.

Indiana University Baseball takes down Abilene Christian to win the Series Three-hit days from four separate Hoosiers helped spell the offense on Saturday afternoon as the Indiana Baseball team (26-21, 12-12 B1G) picked up a 14-5 victory over Abilene Christian at Crutcher Scott Field. IU scored two runs in the first inning and led the entire way. A seven-run fifth inning, that featured back-to-back home runs from redshirt sophomore outfielder Korbyn Dickerson and freshman first baseman Jake Hanley, helped put the game to bed early on. The top six hitters in the IU order combined to go 16-30 (.533) with 11 RBIs. A trio of defensive errors held right-handed starter Ben Grable (4.2 IP, 5 R/3 ER, 4 K) in the game longer than necessary. He was relieved by redshirt junior southpaw Grant Holderfield (W, 3-0) and redshirt senior righty Gavin Seebold (SV, 2) – who recorded the final 13 outs. Dickerson had four RBIs on the day – taking his season tally to 70. He’s just the sixth IU player to record 70 RBIs in a season and the first since Alex Dickerson (75 – 2010) to do so. Dickerson also moves up to 18 home runs and 70 hits on the campaign. IU picks up its second series win in the last three tries. The Hoosiers have two sweeps (Ohio State, Michigan State) this season but are looking for the first on the road this year. IU’s last road sweep came at Baylor in 2024.

IU Health 500 Festival Mini Marathon Crowns New Champions in Downtown Indianapolis Saturday Morning At the 49th annual IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and 26th annual Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K, runners from around the world gathered to participate in a run/walk on Saturday. This year, 20 countries, six continents and all 50 states were represented by contestants competing in the race. Now, the winners of those races have been announced. According to 500 Festival officials, Brandon Olden from Richmond, Kentucky, won the Mini-Marathon’s men’s race, crossing the finish line with a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 40 seconds. Meanwhile, Mercy Chelangat of Flagstaff, Arizona, led the charge in the Mini-Marathon women’s race, clocking in at 1 hour, 10 minutes and 32 seconds. According to the 500 Festival, this is a course record for the women’s division.

Moving over to the Delta Dental 500 Festival 5k, Matt Moler of Midwest City, Oklahoma, took first place in the men’s race with a time of 15 minutes and 25 seconds. Arcadia, Indiana, native Lilly Higgins won the women’s race in 18 minutes and 27 seconds, 500 Festival officials reported. Following that were the two winners in the Athletes with Disabilities division. The 500 Festival said Holly Koester from Walton Hills, Ohio, took the lead with a time of 1 hour, 28 minutes and 16 seconds. In second place was Indianapolis’ Kevin Weingartner at 1 hour and 46 minutes. Then there were the USATF 5KM Championship times. The 500 Festival said Olin Hacker of Flagstaff, Arizona, completed the men’s race in 13 minutes and 32 seconds, while Josette Andrews of Boulder, Colorado, completed the women’s race in 15 minutes and 6 seconds.
