Indiana Wide Receiver DJ Matthews Jr Out for The Season with Torn ACL
Indiana Wide Receiver DJ Matthews Jr is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL Saturday night at Western Kentucky. Matthews Jr landed awkwardly when he fell on a punt that he failed to catch and was carted off the field. “It’s a tough, tough blow for us and him, I hurt for him. He’s had an amazing attitude, even the night the happened” Head Coach Tom Allen Said in his Monday Press Conference. Matthews transferred from Florida State in January as graduate transfer. Matthews did not play in 2020 season and that does not a count as a redshirt because did not count against college athlete’s eligibility due to COVID-19. Matthews is eligible to take a redshirt this year and come back next season if he decides to. Matthews had 13 receptions for 165 yards, had 2 carries for 28 yards against Cincinnati and 3 punt returns for 83 yards and a touchdown against Idaho.
Gainbridge replaces Bankers Life Fieldhouse as Home of the Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever will have a new partner on the building as Gainbridge replaces Bankers Life. The Multi-year partnership brings together two organizations that share core values, respected and recognized brands, and a commitment to using sport as a vehicle to build to community. The Fieldhouse opened November 6th, 1999 as Conseco Fieldhouse and lasted for 12 years. Conseco was a financial services organization based in Carmel Indiana. Bankers Life took over in 2011 after CNO Financial Group took over the naming rights and announced on March 13th, 2018 not to renew its naming sponsorship which expired June 30th, 2019 and the 10-year partnership comes to end with Monday’s announcement. Gainbridge is also a sponsor of the Indianapolis 500.
Luke Brown Transferring to Ball State Men’s Basketball
2021 Indiana All Star Luke Brown of Blackford HS in Hartford City Indiana announced he will transfer to Ball State University which is a half hour south of his home. Brown is the 4th all time leading scorer in Indiana High School Boys Basketball history with 3,011 career points. Brown was 3rd in the 2020 Indiana Mr Basketball voting to Caleb Furst of Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian who won the honor and Trey Kaufman-Renn of Sliver Creek and both attend Purdue University. Brown committed to Stetson University in Deland Florida announced last week is leaving the school. Brown chose the Hatters over Ball State and Indiana State among other mid major programs. Brown had a huge following in High School after leading a program who had won just 1 game in three seasons before his freshman year. Brown was 77-25 in 4 years at the school won back-to-back Sectionals in 2020 and 2021 and won a regional title in 2021 advancing to the Semistate falling to Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian 88-61.
High School Girls and Boys Soccer Parings Announced
Parings were announced Sunday evening for the IHSAA Girls and Boys Soccer State Tournament. In Class 3A Boys at Terre Haute North, Bloomington North will face the winner of the Terre Haute North-Martinsville match. Bloomington South will face Terre Haute South with the winner of that game facing the winner of Northview and Bedford North Lawrence. In Class 2A Boys At Monrovia Sullivan will face Edgewood in Game 1 with the winner taking on South Vermillion. The second night of action will see Owen Valley take on West Vigo followed by Monrovia vs Brown County. On the Girls Side, In Class 3A at Bloomington North. Martinsville will take on Bloomington North in Game 1 with the winner taking Terre Haute South in the semifinal. The first semifinal will be Terre Haute North and Bloomington South. In Class 2A At Owen Valley, Edgewood will face rival Owen Valley in the first semifinal while Brown County will await the winner between Northview and West Vigo in the Second Semifinal. The Sectionals are October 4-9th, The Regional Semifinals for Girls are October 13th and the Boys October 14th. The Regional Championships are October 16th. The Semistates are October 23rd and will be held at Kokomo, South Bend St Joseph’s, Seymour and Evansville North. The State Championships will be held October 29th and 30th Michael Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on IUPUI campus in Indianapolis. 2 state champions will be crowned that Friday and 4 more on that Saturday.
