Indiana University Baseball beats Michigan to Clinch a Big Ten Tournament Spot The Indiana Baseball team (30-22) will play in its 12th-straight Big Ten Tournament next week after securing a bid with an 8-7 victory over Michigan on Thursday evening at Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Hoosiers have the longest active streak of tournaments made (12) by any team in the conference. It was a tale of two games as the Hoosiers grinded out a win in the first game of the season’s final weekend series. IU put up seven runs in the first three innings behind a plethora of good at-bats. Freshman first baseman Jake Hanley had an RBI single and a solo home run as IU jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The final four innings was all about the pitching for the Hoosiers. Sophomore right-hander Jackson Yarberry (W, 2-0) tossed two important frames, giving up just one run on a fluke bounce. Veteran reliever Gavin Seebold (SV, 3) came on to get the last three outs and pick up the save. Redshirt senior catcher Jake Stadler had one of the biggest swings of the game. After Michigan scored four in the bottom of the fifth, the veteran bat answered immediately with a solo home run to kick off the sixth. It extended IU’s lead back to two runs and ended up making the difference in the ballgame.

Devin Taylor Voted by College Baseball Writers as a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist As one of the premier bats in college baseball, Indiana’s junior outfielder Devin Taylor was named as a National Semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy. The award’s committee announced a list of the 64 best players from across the country on Thursday afternoon. The Dick Howser Trophy is one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate baseball and is given to the top player in the nation on an annual basis. It is sponsored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The 38th edition of the trophy will be handed out on Friday, June 13th. Three finalists will be unveiled in Omaha on June 7th.

Taylor has been one of the best all-around players in college baseball since bursting on the scene as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2023. Now as a junior, Taylor continues to flash the skill that will make him a likely first round pick in this summer’s MLB Draft. On the season, the Cincinnati, Ohio native is slashing .366/.488/.670 with an OPS north of 1.100. He’s got 71 hits on the season while contributing 14 home runs, 13 doubles, 55 RBIs and 59 runs scored. He, and fellow outfielder Korbyn Dickerson, are leading candidates to be First Team All-Big Ten selections next week. Taylor broke the program’s all-time home run record in April with his 48th career home run and has worked that tally up to 50. He’s helped IU to over 100 career wins in his time in Bloomington and will leave as one of the best players in program history.

Indiana University Excellence Academy honors Graduating Student-Athletes Four years ago, the Class of 2025 entered the Hoosier community as freshmen, masked and uncertain amid a global pandemic. On May 9, they walked across the stage as proud graduates—resilient, accomplished, and ready for what lies ahead. In a special celebration hosted by the Excellence Academy, 55 student-athletes were honored for their graduation achievements in front of more than 260 family members and friends. Deb McClurg, President of the I-Association, had the privilege of presenting each graduate with their I-Pin, signifying their transition to alumni status within the Hoosier family. From athletic success to academic excellence, these student-athletes have left a lasting mark at Indiana University.

Senior swimmer Anna Peplowski served as the Class of 2025’s graduate speaker. A decorated athlete with multiple All-American honors and an Olympic medal, Peplowski’s impact reached far beyond the pool, touching the Bloomington community as well. “But this moment isn’t just about one person, one sport, or one path. It’s about all of us, every student-athlete who has poured their heart into representing Indiana,” Peplowski shared in her speech. True to the Hoosier motto, “24 Sports, 1 Team,” the ceremony reflected a shared bond and collective pride. As these graduates begin the next chapter of their lives, the Excellence Academy congratulates the Class of 2025 on their tremendous success and enduring legacy as Indiana Hoosiers.
