
Indiana University Men’s Basketball lands Bosnian Big-Man Andrej Acimovic Indiana head men’s basketball coach Darian DeVries announced the addition of Andrej Acimovic to the 2025-26 roster. Acimovic, a Bosnian center, is the 13th scholarship player added to the Hoosiers during DeVries’ first offseason. “Andrej is a talented big man that we are excited to get in our program and develop,” DeVries said. “He has good size and is able to score the basketball in different ways. He is strong on the glass and has good defensive instincts and timing when blocking shots.”

Big Ten Announces the 2025 National Televison Volleyball Schedule The Indiana volleyball team will make five confirmed appearances on linear television this fall, as announced by the conference office on Monday morning. The Big Ten has set the national standard in promoting the growth of women’s volleyball and will carry 79 matches on its networks this year. This is the third-straight season that the Hoosiers will appear on the Big Ten Network or its partner channels at least four times in the same year. IU played eight nationally-televised contests in 2024, including a commanding sweep of Northwestern at Wilkinson Hall.
IU will be part of an opening night doubleheader to begin the Big Ten campaign on Wednesday, September 24th. The Hoosiers will head to Evanston to play Northwestern (9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT) following the conclusion of Michigan and Nebraska (7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT). Volleyball will take center stage in the state’s capital on Thursday, October 16th when IU and Purdue meet at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to play for the Monon Spike. It is believed to be one of the first volleyball matches played inside the basketball arena and will command a national audience (7 p.m. ET) on the Big Ten Network. Additional network matches for the Hoosiers include home contests with Ohio State (Oct. 19, Noon ET) and Minnesota (Oct. 24, 8 p.m. ET) at the end of October. IU will play the defending national champions, Penn State, in Happy Valley (Nov. 2, 4 p.m. ET) to begin the final month of the regular season. The start times for IU’s remaining home matches on B1G+ will be determined at the beginning of August.

Indiana Native and IU Graduate Lilly King Falls Short in the 100 Meter Breaststroke at the World Aquatics Championships Indiana native Lilly King will not compete for a medal in one of her signature events at her final world championships before her retirement. King, 28, failed Monday morning to qualify for the finals of in the 100-meter breaststroke at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. She finished 9th out of 16 swimmers with a time of 1:06.26 seconds. King was .09 seconds behind 8th place swimmer Kotryna Teterevkova of Lithuania. The top 8 swimmers in the semifinal round move on to tomorrow’s event final. Another U.S. swimmer – Kate Douglass – finished first in the semifinal round to advance to the final.
King, a native of Evansville who also starred at Indiana University, announced in May that she would retire from competitive swimming after this year’s World Championships. She will have at least one more chance to pick up a medal at her final international event, as she is scheduled to compete in the 50-meter breaststroke on Friday. King could also compete in the mixed 4 X 100-meter medley relay tomorrow and the women’s 4 X 100-meter medley relay on Saturday, though the United States has not yet set its relay rotation for either race.
King has won 11 gold and 2 silver medals at long course world championship meets in her career. She also has a total of six career Olympic medals – three of them gold – in three total Olympic games as well as seven career gold medals in world short-course swimming championships. Her only individual Olympic gold medal came during her freshman year at IU when King won the 100-meter breaststroke at the Rio de Janeiro games in 2016. The four-time All-America selection in college was only the second swimmer in NCAA history to sweep the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke titles in each of her four years, as she helped IU maintain its status as one of the top college swimming programs in the country. King was awarded the Honda Sports Award after her senior year with the Hoosiers in 2019 as the nation’s outstanding female swimmer.
King was one of seven current or former Indiana University Athletes to compete Monday. Singapore’s Ching Hwee Gan finished 4th overall with a time of 16:01.29 and set a National Record in the Women’s 1500 Meter Freestyle Prelims to qualify for the final today. Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands finished 4th with a time of 59.06 Josh Matheny of the United States finished 7th with a time of 59.26 in the Men’s 100 Meter Breaststroke Finals. Miroslav Knedla of the Czech Republic finished 12th overall with a time of 53:59 and Kai van Westerling Netherlands finished 24th overall with a time of 54:24 in the Prelims of the Men’s 100 Meter Backstroke Heats. Knedla Tied for 12th with Mewern Tomec of France 53:15 setting a National Record for the Czech Republic in the Semifinals. Mexico’s Miranda Grana finished 20th overall with a time of 1:01.10 in the Women’s 100 Meter Backstroke Prelims.
Bubba Wallace Makes History at the Brickyard 400 Bubba Wallace won the Brickyard 400, becoming the first Black driver to win the race. Wallace is also the first Black driver to win on the famed oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in its 116 years of existence. This was Wallace’s first win of the season. He led for 23 laps. “It was such a cool moment,” Wallace said. Wallace made sure to thank everyone on his team for the victory. “Can’t thank everyone enough on this team,” Wallace said. “It was a flawless weekend. I’m just lucky enough to hold the steering wheel.”
“To do it here in Indy, it brings me joy to see them have success. I’m just lucky. Definitely blessed. Definitely don’t take it for granted.” With the win, Wallace clinched a berth into the Cup Series Playoffs. This is his second time making the playoffs. The victory on Sunday also snapped a 100-race winless drought for Wallace. Wallace started in second for the race. Kyle Larson finished in second place and Denny Hamlin finished in third.
Wallace drives for 23XI Racing, which Hamlin is a co-owner of along with Michael Jordan. Hamlin was asked how special it is to be able to kiss the bricks with Wallace. “It’s fantastic,” Hamlin said. “This is such a special moment for the family, the team, everyone, for this accomplishment. It’s hard to imagine things being any different or have a better day than we had today.” Indiana native Chase Briscoe won pole for the race and finished 18th. The race finished in double overtime after a weather delay. The red flag came out in Lap 157 due to rain on the track. NASCAR races again on Sunday, August 3 at Iowa Speedway. There are only four races left in the season before the playoffs.
Kelsey Mitchell Scores 35 Points to Lead the Indiana Fever past the Chicago Sky The Indiana Fever (14-12) defeated the Chicago Sky, 93-78, at the United Center on Sunday afternoon. The Fever were led by a season-high 35 points from Kelsey Mitchell, a career-high 14 points from rookie Makayla Timpson, while Chloe Bibby scored eight points in her Fever debut. The Indiana Fever came out of the gate swinging, leading the Sky 26-13 after the first quarter, backed by 13 points from Kelsey Mitchell, including three three-pointers from the guard. Throughout the second quarter Indiana was able to maintain its double-digit lead thanks to eight points from Aari McDonald and six from Aliyah Boston, putting the Fever up 51-39 at the halftime break. With a buzzer-beater jumper from Lexie Hull at the end of the third quarter, the Fever continued its double-digit lead, 75-61, with 10 points from Mitchell and four points from Makayla Timpson. Indiana closed out the game with a 9-0 run over the last 4:41 to end the contest with a win for the Fever.
Forward Chloe Bibby made her Indiana Fever debut in the first quarter, her first since signing a seven-day contract on Friday, July 25. Bibby recorded her first points with :38 left in the first quarter, sinking a three-pointer. Bibby finished the night with eight points, two rebounds and one rebound. Kelsey Mitchell recorded her 200th career steal in the first quarter, surpassing Erica Wheeler for the seventh most in franchise history. Mitchell recorded her 500th point of the season in the first quarter, doing so in just 26 games, the fastest any Fever player has hit the mark in a single season. Mitchell’s feat surpasses the previous record of 29 games set by Caitlin Clark during the 2024 season. Mitchell is the second player in the WNBA to score 500 points this season, joining Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier. Mitchell finished the night with 35 points, extending her double-digit scoring streak to 26 games, posting 10+ points in every game so far this season.
Kelsey Mitchell recorded her ninth 30+ point game, doing so in her 259th game, second in franchise history to Tamika Catchings, who recorded 10 30+ games in 457 appearances. Kelsey Mitchell became the first player in Fever franchise history to record 35+ points in under 30 minutes, doing so in 29:51. Rookie Makayla Timpson scored a career high 14 points, surpassing her previous high of 10 points recorded on July 9, 2025, against the Golden State Valkyries. Aliyah Boston recorded her 35th career double-double, ending the night with 14 points and 11 rebounds, her 11th of the season. The Indiana Fever return home to Gainbridge Fieldhouse to host the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET, broadcast nationally on ESPN3 and locally on FanDuel Sports Network.
Indianapolis Indians take the Series Finale over the Toledo Mud Hens Alika Williams’ RBI double in the seventh inning carried the Indianapolis Indians to a 6-5win over the Toledo Mud Hens on Sunday afternoon at Victory Field. Indy won the season series against the Mud Hens, 11-7, capturing 10 of 12 games at the Vic. Jared Triolo doubled with one out in the seventh frame and Williams brought him home with two down. The Mud Hens (13-14, 52-50) opened the scoring with a pair of home runs in the first and second innings, respectively. Hao-Yu Lee homered in back-to-back games with a first-inning solo blast snd Trei Cruz hit a solo shot of his own in the second frame for a 2-0 advantage.
The Indians (19-8,61-40) rallied to take the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Matt Fraizer doubled to get the rally started, advanced to third on a wild pitch by Mud Hens starter Wilkel Hernandez and scored on an RBI single by Nick Yorke. Following a walk to Triolo, Brett Sullivan doubled home Yorke to tie the game. Williams then put Indy up, 3-2, with a bloop single to score Triolo. Toledo put up three runs of their own in the next half-inning, taking a 5-3 lead. Indianapolis battled right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Cam Devanney singled, advanced to second base on a Fraizer groundout and scored on Yorke’s second run-scoring single of the contest. Yorke was thrown out at second base attempting to stretch a double. Triolo singled and then Jordan Balazovic relieved Hernandez. Sullivan singled, Alika Williams walked to load the bases, and a wild pitch scored Triolo to knot the game, 5-5. Sean Sullivan (W,1-2) earned his first Triple-A win with 2.0 scoreless frames in relief. Kyle Nicolas (S, 5) tossed a perfect ninth inning. Hernandez allowed 10 hits and five runs across 4.2 innings for Toledo. RJ Petit (L, 0-1) allowed the winning run. The Indians had an off day on Monday before starting a six-game road series against the Iowa Cubs Tonight at 7:38 PM. Indy is yet to name a starter and RHP Kenta Maeda (3-4, 6.49) is set to take the mound for the Cubs.
