Indianapolis Indians bounce back with a 4-2 Win Over the Omaha Storm Chasers A pair of solo shots from Jase Bowen and Alika Williams provided all the offense the Indianapolis Indians would need as they took down the Omaha Storm Chasers, 4-2, on Thursday night at Victory Field. Bowen’s homer opened the scoring for Indianapolis (24-12, 66-44). It came in his first career Triple-A at bat after being promoted from Double-A Altoona prior to Wednesday’s contest. Bowen sparked Indy’s offense again in the fifth, doubling with one out. He came in to score one batter later via a Brett Sullivan single to extend the Indians’ lead. They tacked on another run in the sixth, courtesy of a Cam Devanney double to drive in Ronny Simon, who reached on a lead-off walk and stole second to set up the opportunity.
The Storm Chasers (12-24, 43-67) strung together three singles to scratch across their first run in the seventh. Alika Williams responded in the bottom half, pushing the Indians’ advantage back to three with his fourth home run of the season. Isan Díaz drove in Drew Waters from second base to score Omaha’s final run in the ninth before Colin Holderman (S, 1) shut the door. Indiana Fever Get Blown Out on the Road by the Phoenix Mercury The Indiana Fever (17-14) finished their four-game road trip with a 95-60 loss at Phoenix Mercury, heading home with a 2-2 record through said games. The first quarter saw the Phoenix Mercury leading the Fever 26-16, with Kelsey Mitchell’s eight points being the most for Indiana. Sophie Cunningham’s three three-pointers in the second quarter saw the Fever pull within five points of the Mercury, but Phoenix was able to regain their double-digit lead, ahead 47-36 at the half. Mercury extended their lead in the second half, with the Fever unable to cut into the deficit for the eventual loss. Kelsey Mitchell surpassed 600 points this season, becoming just the second player in the WNBA to do so already this year, joining Napheesa Collier. Mitchell has now scored at least 600 points in three consecutive seasons, with the guard scoring 728 in 2023 and 767 in 2024. Indianapolis Colts Fall in Preseason Opener to the Baltimore Ravens The Indianapolis Colts lost to the Ravens in the preseason opener, 24-16. Anthony Richardson Sr. left the game in the first quarter with a dislocated right pinky finger. Richardson was hit hard by Ravens linebacker David Ojabo. Ojabo was unblocked on the right side of the line and hit Richardson on his blind side. “It was weird,” Richardson said. “He hit me, and then I just wanted to make sure I had the ball. I looked down and saw my finger in a different direction. I was like, ‘Maybe I’m tripping,’ but I looked at it again, and it was definitely like that. I thought, ‘I need to get this finger popped back into place, but I’m good though.’”
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Richardson got it popped back in and is day-to-day. Daniel Jones replaced Richardson and played the rest of the first half. He was 10/21 passing for 144 yards. “I think you have to be ready to go,” Jones said. “That’s part of the game. Yes, some good, some bad. Caught a rhythm at points, and we were moving the ball well and executing. But [there are] a couple of things here and there [that] kept us from getting in the endzone. [We did] a lot of good things, but we want to score touchdowns.” Ulysses Bentley IV led the Colts on the ground with seven rushes for 35 yards. Ashton Dulin led the Colts with three catches and 54 yards receiving. Khalil Herbert scored the Colts lone touchdown on a one-yard rush. The Colts return to practice at Grand Park on Saturday, from 4-5:10.
