Indiana University Volleyball Sweeps Maryland After trailing by seven in the first set, the Indiana volleyball team (17-4, 8-3 B1G) immediately flipped the script on Friday evening. IU went on a 12-0 run in game one to retake the lead and never trailed the rest of the way. The Hoosiers finished off a commanding sweep (25-19, 25-15, 25-12) of Maryland to kick start the second half of the Big Ten season. IU paired a strong serving night with an effective offensive evening to make quick work of the hosts in College Park. The Hoosiers recorded 10 aces in just three sets, the third time this year that the team has been in double digits in the serving department. Graduate student outside hitter Jessica Smith became the seventh player in program history to record six aces in a single match.
Senior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles led the way offensively with 17 kills on a .419 hitting percentage. Her left-side counterpart, freshman outside hitter Jaidyn Jager, provided 10 kills and a career-high 13 digs. As a team, the Hoosiers hit .344 (45-12-96) behind 33 assists from freshman setter Teodora Kričković. Freshman middle blocker Victoria Gray was all over the ball on Friday evening. She had nine kills at a .571 hitting percentage and matched a career high with seven blocks. She had a career-high four digs in the win. IU did a great job at managing off-speed shots from Maryland with 45 digs and eight blocks as a team.
IU’s win in College Park was the fourth-straight road win at Maryland. It also helped match a program record for road wins (7) in a single season. The Hoosiers now have eight wins in conference play this year. It’s the first time since 1987-90 that the program has won at least eight conference games in four-straight years (2022-25). The Hoosiers will get the day off today before meeting the defending national champions, Penn State, on Sunday afternoon in Rec Hall. The contest will be broadcasted on Big Ten Network to a national audience with Jason Knapp and Mac Podraza on the call.
