
Indiana University Volleyball Sweeps Penn State in State College The 2025 edition of the Indiana volleyball team continues to make history. On Sunday, it took it to a whole new level. The Hoosiers (18-4, 9-3 B1G) provided the grittiest effort of the season to sweep No. 19 Penn State (25-22, 25-15, 25-13) for the first time in program history. Across 51 years of volleyball in Bloomington, it’s the first time that IU has ever beaten Penn State in Happy Valley. From the jump, IU’s energy was as good as the team has seen all season. Senior opposite hitter Avry Tatum and freshman outside hitter Jaidyn Jager led the way with 14 kills apiece as the team hit .228 on the afternoon. Freshman setter Teodora Krickovic dished out 33 assists in the victory.
IU’s defense separated itself down the stretch in each set. Jager recorded her fourth career double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Freshman libero Avery Freeman had the best match of her career with 10 digs and one service ace. The Hoosiers racked up 45 digs and four blocks – the final one of those on match point. The deciding factor came in the serve-receive battle. Penn State had 12 errors from the end line while IU responded with six service aces to just four errors. Jager was phenomenal in reception and played one of the best matches of her career. IU got contributions from 11 of its available 15 players on the roster. Sunday’s win in Happy Valley was the eighth overall road win this season and the third top-25 road win of the season. Both of those marks are single-season program records. It was the first sweep of a ranked opponent since beating No. 13 Michigan on Oct. 22, 2010. It was the first sweep of a ranked opponent on the road since 1986.
Bloomington South Finishes 3rd at the IHSAA Girls Cross Country State Championships The Bloomington South Panthers finished third with a team score of 150 points Saturday Afternoon at the 45th Annual IHSAA Girls Cross Country State Championships at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Championship Course in Terre Haute. It’s the highest finish in school history for the Panthers made their 27th appearance and fourth in a row. Edgewood making their sixth appearance and first since 2023 scored 615 points and finished 24th. Bloomington North made their 33rd appearance and second in a row finished 25th with a team score of 623 points. Senior Libby Dowty of Indian Creek won the Individual State Championship for the second time after she won it as a sophomore in 2023. Bloomington South’s Jasmine Martogolio finished 9th, Lexi Kollbaum 15th overall to take home individual medals. Edgewood’s Hannah Crain finished 28th overall. Defending State Champion Mallory Weller of Fort Wayne Concordia was sidelined by calf injury. Dowty is committed to the University of Louisville and competes in Girls Wrestling and was State Qualifier in 2024. Camel won the State Title with a team score of 100 points and won their 21st State Championship and their second in a row. Fort Wayne Concordia finished second with 129 points, Homestead finished fourth with 172 Points and Northridge was fifth with 177 points. Terre Haute has hosted every Cross-Country State Finals since 2004.
Bloomington North Finishes Fourth at the Boys Cross Country State Finals as Longtime Head Coach Charlie Warthan Announces Retirement The Bloomington North Cougars scored 170 points to finish fourth at the IHSAA Boys’ Cross-Country State Championships Saturday Afternoon at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross-Country Championship Course in Terre Haute. Jacob Mitchell finished fifth overall, Caelan D’ Onforio finished 10th overall and Caleb Winders finished 20th as the trio will bring individual medals home to Bloomington. Chase Norris was the top finisher for Bloomington South finishing 113th as the Panthers scored 674 points and finished 25th in the team standings. After the Race Longtime Bloomington North Head Coach Charlie Warthan announced his retirement after leading the Cougars to the 1980 and 2024 State Championships. Warthan was inducted into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame in 2015, His Daughter Jennfier won the 1991 Individual State Title and the Mental Attitude Award, and she is a 2017 Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee. His Daughter Amanda who was inducted into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame in 2021 won the Mental Attitude Award in 1993 won the State Title 3,200 Meters in 1993 and Amanda’s Son and Charlie’s Grandson Kyle Clark helped the Cougars win the 3,200 Meter Relay State Title in 2023.
Columbus North took home the State Title with a score of 58 points Noblesville was second with 128, Homestead third with 147 and Northridge fifth with 174. Springs Valley Junior Calvin Seitz and Westview Senior Noah Bontrager both finished with a time of 15:01.3 as Sietz edges Bontrager at the line to take home the Individual State Title as Bontrager was State Runner Up a year ago to Fishers Senior Sam Quadliaroli. Sietz is the first Junior since Izaiah Sturey of Angola in 2020 to win the Individual State Title. It’s the seventh state title for Columbus North and first since 2020. The Bulldogs won in 2002,2003, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2020. Bloomington North won the State Championship last year as Columbus North took home the Sectional and Regional Titles this year were going to be a tough team to beat. Bloomington North who also won the state title in 1980 made their 39th appearance and 14th in a row which is tied for fourth overall in State Finals History along with Chesterton. The Cougars won the sectional championship at Bedford North Lawrence and Junior Jackson Walker took home the Individual Sectional Championship. Bloomington South made its State Record 53rd all-time appearance going back to when they were Bloomington HS before they became Bloomington South in 1973, they have made 33 appearances and their first since 2023. Carmel made its 52 Appearance and Valparaíso is third all-time with 50. Terre Haute has hosted the State Finals since 2004.
Indiana University Basketball Lands Vaughn Karvala for 2026 Indiana picked up a commitment from class of 2026 wing Vaughn Karvala on Saturday afternoon. He announced the decision at his school with his family. The 6-foot-6 Karvala is the No. 42 ranked player in the 2026 class. Karvala chose IU over Xavier and California. He took an official visit to Indiana Oct. 17-19 and shut down his recruitment shortly thereafter. Karvala will play his senior season in Arizona at Bella Vista Prep in the EYBL Scholastic League. He’s a long athletic wing and a high-level 3-point shooter who should fit well in coach Darian DeVries’ system. As a junior at Oregon H.S. (Oregon, Wisc.), Karvala posted 26.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 53.5% from the field overall including 41.9% from three. Indiana now has two commits in its 2026 class. Karvala joins Maryland-based guard Prince-Alexander Moody.
Indiana University Wrestling Concludes Wrestle Offs at Wilkinson Hall Indiana Wrestling hosted its annual wrestle-offs on Saturday night at Wilkinson Hall. The winners of the matches included: Jacob Moran (125), Blaine Frazier (133), Logan Frazier (133), Henry Porter (141), Joey Buttler (149), Aidan Torres (149), Magnus Kuokkanen (174), Ayden Bollinger (125), Chris Crawford (165), Derek Gilcher (174). The team’s season officially begins on Saturday, November 8 in a dual against Lock Haven as part of the Journeyman Classic’s Wrangle Mania and the Michigan State Open. There were no bouts at (157) and (285).

Indiana Pacers End a Five Game Losing Streak with a Win Over the Golden State Warriors at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Quenton Jackson scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Indiana Pacers snapped a season-opening five-game losing streak with a 114-109 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. Aaron Nesmith scored 31 and Pascal Siakam added 27 for the Pacers. Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 24 points. Jimmy Butler scored 20 points and Jonathan Kuminga 17 for Golden State. After Indiana trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, Jackson’s 3-pointer with 1:09 left gave the Pacers a 109-107 lead. Butler dunked to tie the score at 109-all, but he failed to convert a three-point play.
Siakam hit a 3-pointer that put the Pacers ahead 112-109 with 37 seconds left. After a Kuminga missed, Jackson hit a pull-up jumper with 5.2 seconds left that extended the lead to 114-109. Curry scored 18 points in the first half as the Warriors built a 58-55 halftime lead. Nesmith scored 18 and Siakam 16 to lead Indiana in the opening half. Golden State shot 48% in the first half, while the Pacers shot 44%. The Pacers led by as many as six points in the third quarter before the Warriors rallied for a 88-82 advantage heading into the fourth. Brandi Podziemski scored 10 of his 16 points in the third quarter for Golden State.
Indiana had been hard hit by injuries. Two-time All-Star Tyrese Haliburton is expected to miss the entire season after tearing his Achilles tendon in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. On Friday, the Pacers announced that Obi Toppin will miss at least three months with a stress fracture in his right foot that requires surgery. Also sidelined for the Pacers are starters Bennedict Mathurin (foot) and Andrew Nembhard (left shoulder strain), along with key reserve player T.J. McConnell (left hamstring strain). The Pacers return to action this evening hosting the Milwaukee Bucks at 7 PM inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
