#2 Indiana University Football Looking to Make History at Penn State The #2 Indiana Hoosiers are looking for their first win all time at Beaver Stadium against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday for a Noon Kickoff on FOX in State College Pennsylvania. The Hoosiers are 0-13 all-time at Beaver Stadium since 1993 but that could all change on Saturday. Penn State has won the last three meetings and leads the all-time series 25-2. The Hoosiers and the Nittany Lions last met on October 28, 2023, in State College with Penn State defeating Indiana 33-24. The Hoosiers were coached by Tom Allen who after he was dismissed by Indiana in 2023, became the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at Penn State in 2024 before taking the same position at Clemson this season.
Now Pittsburgh Native Curt Cignetti returns to his home state with a Hoosier squad that is 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Big Ten and coming off a 55-10 win over Maryland last Saturday in College Park. The Hoosiers are looking to back-to-back 10-0 starts for the first time in program history. Until Cignetti arrived in Bloomington the Hoosiers had only had 2 seasons of 9 wins in 1945 and 1967. He has taken the Hoosiers to new heights that Hoosier Nation once thought was impossible and now have become a reality. Indiana is 20-2 under Cignetti and have won 18 of the 20 games by double digits including a 14-1 Big Ten Record with 12 of those wins by double digits. From 2014-23 Indiana won 10 Big Ten Games by Double Digits. Not only are the Hoosiers winning they are dominating outscoring their opponents 418-97 this season but in the 20 wins under Cignetti the Hoosiers have outscored their opponents 923-297.
Indiana’s 45-point margin of victory at Maryland is tied for the third largest road win program history and the first since Purdue in 1988. The Hoosiers beat Minnesota by 49 in 1945 and Fort Knox by 51 in 1942. Indiana has scored 50 or points 8 times since Cignetti arrived in Bloomington and 24 overall. The 55 points against Maryland are the fourth most in a road game and the most since the program record when the Hoosiers put up 63 on Wisconsin in 1988. The Hoosiers scored 59 at Kentucky in 1994 and 58 against the Wildcats in 1969. Indiana ran all over the Terrapins racking up 367 yards rushing which is the fifth time the season with over 300 yards in game rushing including four straight to start the season which is the most by a power four team since Baylor in 2015.
The Hoosiers held Maryland to 37 rushing yards which is the eight straight game Indiana has held a team to 100 yards rushing or less which is a program record and ties the program record for most games in a single season with an opponent under 100 yards rushing. Indiana has run the ball 385 times for 2,211 yards and 22 touchdowns as Roman Hemby and Khobie Martin have five apiece. Fernando Mendoza continues to raise his stock for the Heisman Trophy and the 2026 NFL Draft. The Miami native has completed 72 percent of his passes 162-224 for 2,124 yards throwing 25 touchdown passes and 4 Interceptions and sacked 7 times. Mendoza has rushed 50 times for 220 yards and 4 Touchdowns. Alberto Mendoza has completed 15 of his 21 passes for 204 yards throwing 4 Touchdown passes and 1 Interception. Alberto has 8 carries for 123 yards and 1 touchdown. Grant Wilson has completed 1 pass for 5 Yards as the Quarterbacks have combined for 2,333 yards passing, 29 touchdowns, 5 Interceptions and 7 sacks.
Omar Cooper Jr and Elijah Sarratt have combined for 91 receptions, 1,278 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season. Sarratt is day to day working through a hamstring injury and did not catch pass for the first time his college career ending a streak of 46 consecutive games with at least one reception. Indiana is one three teams in the FBS along with Ohio State and Auburn to hold teams under 24 points in every game this season. Linebacker Aiden Fisher misses the Maryland game with a knee injury and should be available this week. The Hoosiers have 29 sacks, 13 interceptions including 1 for a touchdown and 5 fumble recoveries with Devan Boykin returning one against Maryland to house after he stripped quarterback Malik Washington.
Penn State started the season 3-0 and had high hopes after losing to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Orange Bowl last season. The Nittany Lions dropped their first game of the season at home against Oregon 30-24 in double overtime in the “White Out Game” on September 27. Penn State headed west to Pasadena and were stunned by a UCLA team 42-37 and had fired their coach after 0-3 start and then a loss at Northwestern to put the Bruins at 0-4 coming into that game on October 4th. The Nittany Lions returned home and lost to Northwestern 22-21 on October 11 and dismissed Head Coach James Franklin the next day. Penn State Quarterback Drew Allar was knocked out of the Northwestern game and will miss the rest of the season due to injury. Allar threw 1,100 yards completing 64 percent of his passes with 8 touchdown passes and 3 Interceptions.
Terry Smith took over the team and Penn State lost at Iowa 25-24 on October 18, and 38-14 at top ranked Ohio State last Saturday. The Nittany Lions are 3-5 overall and 0-5 in the Big Ten and have lost five in a row. Ethan Grunkemeyer has taken over for Allar at Quarterback as he completed 19 of his 28 passes for 145 yards with no touchdowns and 1 Interception against Ohio State. Kaytron Allen leads the Penn State running attack with 688 yards on 119 carries and 10 touchdowns. Nicholas Singleton has 82 carries for 292 yards and 7 Touchdowns, and they are the 1-2 rushing attack for the Nittany Lions. DeVonte Ross is the leading receiver with 281 yards on 23 catches and 3 touchdowns. Penn State is averaging 31.5 points per game on offense and allowing 21.8 on defense. Indiana is leading the FBS averaging 46.4 points on offense and 3rd giving up 10.8 points per game and leads the FBS with +12 turnover margin.
Indiana beat Penn State 44-24 on October 5, 2013, and 36-35 in double overtime on October 24, 2020, both in Bloomington. The 2020 game was the season opener after the COVID-19 Pandemic and was played in front of friends and family. The Hoosiers are 6-0 in the Big Ten for second straight season and they look to improve to 7-0 for the second straight season. They say that history repeats itself and the Hoosiers want to keep repeating that trend under Curt Cignetti but for 136 seasons History has not been the best for Indiana University Football and now the Hoosiers want to keep rewriting the history books and they can rewrite history Saturday afternoon with the programs first ever win at Penn State.

Indiana Hoosiers Host Pivotal Big Ten Men’s Soccer Finale Against Rutgers On the final day of the Big Ten regular season, two teams – Indiana and UCLA – are positioning for the fourth and final conference tournament berth. Indiana men’s soccer (11-5-1, 4-5-0 B1G) hosts Rutgers (8-5-3, 3-4-2 B1G) Friday night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. With a victory and a UCLA tie or loss at Washington, IU can clinch the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Men’s Soccer Tournament. Kickoff Tonight is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the match is non-ticketed. Fans unable to attend can watch the match via the B1G+ digital platform. IU athletics has also updated available parking for the match. Fans may park in the lot across from the St. Paul Catholic Center, at the Bell Tower or at Redbud Hill Apartments. $10 parking is also available at Gates 12 and 14.
Indiana owns an 8-1-1 record on its home pitch this season. With a season attendance of 32,444, a crowd greater than 1,730 would break Indiana’s single-season attendance record. After a four-match win streak in October, IU has suffered consecutive road defeats over the last two weeks – at No. 4 Maryland (3-2) and at Northwestern (0-2). Senior Palmer Ault is the focal point of a high-powered Indiana attack as a frontrunner for the MAC Hermann Trophy, leading the NCAA in points (38) and co-leading in goals (15).
Rutgers comes in within mathematical range of Indiana and UCLA in the Big Ten standings but doesn’t hold the tiebreaks to clinch a Big Ten Tournament bid. Still, the Scarlet Knights currently sit No. 38 in the RPI and will want to continue to build their NCAA Tournament resume. Head coach Jim McElderry leads the Scarlet Knights in his seventh season, sporting a 49-45-20 record during his time in Piscataway as well as a 176-170-67 career record over 23 seasons as a head coach. Junior midfielder Joschi Schelb ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten in goals (7), points (18) and shots on goal (22). Indiana has won 13 of the 20 meetings with Rutgers as well as eight of 13 since the Scarlet Knights joined the Big Ten. The Hoosiers have won the last two meetings. IU celebrated winning a share of the Big Ten regular season title in a 4-1 victory the last time Rutgers visited in 2023. Last season, Indiana opened conference play with a 1-0 road result thanks to an 87th-minute winner from Tommy Mihalic.

With four minutes left in the contest, Indiana pulled goalkeeper Sadie Canelli to optimize scoring opportunities. Indiana created many scoring opportunities but was unable to find the back of the cage. Indiana’s defense held Iowa scoreless for three quarters. Sadie Canelli made three vital saves throughout the game to hold the Hawkeyes to one goal. A packed Deborah Tobias Field of Cream and Crimson helped energize the Hoosiers for all 60 minutes of play.
