Indiana University Men’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten with a 20 Point Win Over Lindenwood The Indiana Hoosiers are 5-0 on the season after a 73-53 win over the Lindenwood Lions Thursday Evening in Simon Sjkodt Assembly Hall. This was the first meeting between the two programs and Indiana is now 28-0 all-time against teams from the Ohio Valley Conference. Tucker DeVries led the Hoosiers with 25 points, going 7-15 from the field, 5-10 from three-point range and 6-6 from the free throw line. Lamar Wilkerson added 10 points and Sam Alexis pulled down 10 rebounds and scored 8 points. Indiana went 23-61 from the field for 37%, 9-28 from three-point range for 28% and 18-25 from the free throw line for 72%. The Hoosiers pulled down 44 rebounds, dished out 13 assists, 8 steals, 5 blocks and 8 turnovers.
Anias Futrell scored 12 points off the bench to lead Lindenwood and Jadis Jones scored 10 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. The Lions were 17-67 from the field for 25%, 3-18 from three-point range for 16% and 16-20 from the free throw line for 80%. The Lions pulled down 48 rebounds, dished out 8 assists, 7 blocks, 4 steals and 14 turnovers. Indiana led the entire game jumping out to a 10-0 lead. Tucker DeVries drained a three pointer from the corner to beat the shot clock 32 seconds into the game. Tayton Conerway and Sam Alexis scored as Conerway added a triple to lead by 10 points. It took the Lions until the 13:30 mark to score their first bucket of the game when 6-10 Graduate Student Milos Nenadic scored inside. Sam Alexis scored on a tip dunk to make it 12 to 2 Hoosiers with 12:21 left in the first half.
Lindenwood went on a 9-0 run to make it 14-9 with 10:40 left in the first half. Reed Bailey broke the scoring drought with a free throw at the 10:09 mark to make it 15-9. Jadis Jones cut the lead to four points at 15-11 with 10:09 left in the opening half. The Hoosiers outscored the Lions 19-7 the rest of the way to lead 34-18 at half. Lindenwood trailed 37-31 with 16:01 left when the Hoosiers went on a 13-0 run to lead 50-31 with 11:59 left in the second half. DeVries scored 17 points in the second half hitting three triples and gave the Hoosiers the spark needed to pull away. The Hoosiers outscored the Lions 23-22 the rest of the way.
Indiana struggled for the second straight game with shooting the basketball, but the defense held Lions to 17% shooting from the field and that pleased Head Coach Darian DeVries as the Hoosiers did for the second game in a row after Sunday Night’s game with Incarnate Word. Sam Alexis is showing that the true sixth man for the Hoosiers bringing the energy off the bench and Tucker DeVries praised his teammate and said after the game that without his effort the Hoosiers do not pull away the way toward the end of the game. This is still a work in progress for Darian DeVries. The shooting has not been as sharp as the first three games of the season and yes, they have lapses during the game but at the end of the day they still get the job done and now comes a good test against an Unbeaten Kansas State team that comes to Bloomington Tuesday Night for an 8 PM tipoff. Indiana has answered the bell every time so far and it’s only going to get tougher from here.
