
Indiana University Men’s Basketball puts away Maryland in the Second Half with Three Point Shooting The Indiana Hoosiers won their first true road game of the season Wednesday Night as they beat the Maryland Terrapins 84-66 at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland. Indiana is 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten. Indiana is 2-3 away from Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and 1-2 in true road games this season. Maryland is 7-8 overall and 0-4 in the Big Ten and lost five of their last six games and 3-4 at home this season. Indiana leads the all-time series 15-10 and 10-8 as Big Ten Conference Opponents and have won two straight at the Xfinity Center. The Hoosiers put four in double figures with Lamar Wilkerson leading the way with 24 points, Tayton Conerway added 19 points. Conor Enright added 16 and Reed Bailey scored 15 off the bench. The Hoosiers went with an eight-player rotation as Tucker DeVries scored 5 points, Trent Sisley scored 3 points, Sam Alexis had 2 points, and 3 Rebounds and Nick Dorn did not score. The Hoosiers finished the game 27-60 from the field for 45%, 8-25 from three-point range for 32% and 22-26 at the free throw line for 84%. The Hoosiers pulled down 41 rebounds, dished out 13 assists, 3 steals, no blocks and 11 turnovers.
Elijah Saunders led Maryland with 16 points. Solomon Washington scored 14 points and pulled down 9 rebounds Terrapins. Daruis Adams scored 13 points, David Coit added 11 points and Andre Mills scored 10 points. Former Hoosier Myles Rice scored 2 points in 15 minutes off the bench. Rice went 1-3 from the field, 0-1 from three-point range, a rebound and a steal. Maryland finished 25-61 from the field for 61%, 5-26 from three-point range for 19% and 11-17 from the free throw line for 64%. The Terps pulled down 33 rebounds, dished out 7 assists, 5 steals, 2 blocks and 11 turnovers. Maryland was in the game for the first half as the Hoosiers struggled to hit shots, but the Terps could not take advantage since they were not converting their shots especially inside. Indiana was able to settle down and lead 38-31 at halftime. Indiana started hitting from outside and Maryland fell apart defensively as the Hoosiers were scoring in bunches 48-35 in the second half. The Hoosiers were able to pull away in the second half and come away with a much-needed road win in a tough Big Ten where it’s never easy to win on the road and need conference road wins, when possible, to build their NCAA Tournament Resume.
The Hoosiers return home to face an unbeaten Nebraska team at noon on Saturday in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Nebraska has had awesome season so far, but Indiana is 10-0 at home and could play the role of spoiler on Saturday. But Indiana Head Coach Darian DeVries has his first Big Ten Conference Road win since taking over the Hoosiers and now comes another big test on Saturday afternoon when Unbeaten Nebraska comes to Bloomington and Its all already a huge week in Bloomington with the Football Team getting ready to play Oregon in the College Football Playoff Semifinals in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta Friday Night. A win over Nebraska Saturday would be the icing on the cake if the Hoosiers win on Friday night and the dream season will continue for Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers.
Indiana University Women’s Basketball faces Another Ranked Team in #25 Nebraska The Indiana Hoosiers face their third consecutive top 25 Opponent when they battle the #25 Nebraska Cornhuskers this evening at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln Nebraska at 8 PM streamed on Big Ten Network Plus. The Hoosiers are 0-3 games ranked team this season and have lost all three by double digits. Indiana is 11-5 overall and 0-4 Big Ten for the first time in the Teri Moren Era. Indiana has lost all five games double digits. The Hoosiers are on the road for the second game in a row after an 82-67 loss at Maryland Sunday evening. Sophomore Forward Zania Socka-Nugemen returned after missing the last eight games with a lower leg injury. Socka-Nugemen came off the bench to score 4 points in 17 minutes along with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Freshman Maya Makalusky scored a career high 20 points and knocked down six three pointers. Shay Ciezki added 17 points along with 11 points apiece from Lenee Beaumont and Neveah Caffey.
Indiana is shooting 47% from the field, 37% from three-point range and 77% form the free throw line. The Hoosiers are averaging 72.3 points, 12.7 assists and 14.8 turnovers per game. Shay Ciezki is leading the team with 22.8 points, 3.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Edessa Noyan is leading the Hoosiers with 5.2 rebounds and 0.4 blocks per game while averaging 5.5 points per game. Lenee Beaumont is averaging 14.9 points and Zania Socka-Nugemen averaging 11.9 points per game. Nebraska is 13-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten. The Cornhuskers lost back-to-back Big Ten Games against USC 74-66 and at Iowa 86-76. Nebraska won at Penn State 101-83 and beat Purdue at Home Sunday 78-62. Nebraska averages 86.3 points, 19.3 assists and 13.1 turnovers per game. The Cornhuskers are shooting 51% from the field, 36 % from three-point range and 78% form the free throw line.
Sophomore Britt Prince leads the Cornhuskers in scoring with 19 points and in steals with 1.5 and adds 4.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. Amiah Hargrove averages 12.1 points and leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per game. Jessica Petrie averages 11.9 points and leads the team with 1.1 blocks per game. Eliza Maupin averages 9.3 points per game. Callin Hake leads the team with 4.5 assists and averages 8.7 points. Nebraska has a 14-player roster that represents Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota, Kentucky, Missouri, California, North Dakota, Ohio, Croatia, and Australia. There are 4 Seniors, 3 Juniors, 5 Sophomores and 2 Freshman on the squad. Head Coach Amy Williams is 171-125 in her 10th season in Lincoln and 364-234 in 19 seasons overall.
The Hoosiers lead the all-time series 13-6 and won the last meeting on February 2, 2025, 76-60 in Bloomington. The Hoosiers are 5-4 all-time in Lincoln. Indiana has won the last three meetings and Nebraska is looking for its first win in the series since a 72-55 win on February 14, 2022, in Lincoln. The Hoosiers have won 9 of the last 10 meetings in the series dating back to 2018. Indiana Coach Teri Moren had to adjust her lineup some this year with the injuries and Socka-Nugemen was a starter until she got injured. Now that the sophomore is back, we will see if she is able to get back in the starting lineup replacing Edessa Noyan. Nebraska is always a tough team and that will have a big crowd behind them as they have a huge home court advantage at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Indiana won the last meeting in Lincoln 91-69 on January 7, 2024. The Hoosiers have another tough test ahead of them and know they need to play a full 40 minutes and have no third quarter breakdowns like in previous games or they could have another long night ahead of them.
Indiana University Women’s Basketball Fans Treated to a Showdown of Future Teammates The Future of Indiana University Women’s Basketball was on display Tuesday Night at Bloomington South, but it was not a game between two local teams or teams from the State of Indiana. Instead, it was matchup two teams from out of state DME Academy from Daytona Beach, Florida and Assumption High School from Louisville, Kentucky so why would they travel and play a game at Bloomington South? Because each team features a member of the Indiana University Women’s Basketball recruiting class of 2026. Gigi Battle and Ashlinn James are two of the four incoming freshmen for IU Women’s Basketball Coach Teri Moren and along with 6-1 Wing Adddison Nemechek and 6-4 Forward Zoe Jackson. Battle is a 5-11 Guard from New Jersey who plays at DME Academy a Prep School in Florida and James a 5-8 Point Guard from Louisville and both will be on campus this summer to prepare for the 2026-27 season.
Battle and James faced off on the Southside of Bloomington as DME Academy beat Assumption 87-57. James scored 23 points, and Battle had 22 points. Battle, James and Nemechek are all four-star recruits and give the Hoosiers a top class for next season. Jackson is already on campus arriving after she graduated from High School in Australia in December but will redshirt for the Spring Semester to prepare for next season. This was part of a doubleheader as Center Grove beat Bloomington South 33-30 in battle of two ranked teams in Class 4A as Center Grove is ranked 3rd and Bloomington South 10th.
Indiana University Softball’s Aubree Hooks Named to the D100 Freshman Watch List Indiana’s Aubree Hooks was named to D1 Softball’s D100 Freshman Watch List on Monday. Hooks arrives to Bloomington with an impressive resume from her time in high school and travel ball. At Thompson High School in Alabaster, Ala., Hooks was a four-year varsity letterwinner with 130.2 innings pitched, a 22-4 record, 141 strikeouts and a 1.20 ERA. Her strong play earned her First Team All-State in 2025 and Second Team All-State in 2024. She was also named Shelby County’s Pitcher of the Year in 2024 and 2025, as well. She played travel ball for Impact Gold Premier – Warrick. Hooks was named a Top 100 pitcher by Extra Innings Softball in their class of 2025 rankings.
Indiana University Women’s Tennis Player Alessandra Teodsescu Named to the 2026 Big Ten Player to Watch List Freshman Alessandra Teodosescu has been named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list ahead of the start of the spring 2026 season. Teodosescu, who hails from Ventimiglia, Italy, was ranked as high ast No. 30 in the world by the International Tennis Federation and has played in three junior major slams – Wimbledon, Roland Garros and the US Open. In the fall, Teodosescu qualified for the ITA All-American Championships. She also appeared as a J500 Criciuma finalist and was a W2 Santa Margherita di pula doubles champion. The Hoosiers officially kick off their spring season on Jan. 23 against Butler at the IU Tennis Center.
Several High School Basketball Games Scheduled for Friday Night Moved Because of Indiana University Football in the Peach Bowl Several high schools in Indiana have decided to move their high school basketball games from Friday night this week to a different night because of the College Football Semifinal matchup between the Indiana Hoosiers and the Oregon Ducks. “It’s really a tribute to the state of Indiana and their willingness to do this. It’s all for one. Indiana is having historical success with their football program and people want to be a part of that,” said Indiana High School Athletic Association Commissioner Paul Niedig.
Niedig says he’s glad that schools are making some adjustments so Hoosiers can celebrate IU’s success. “There’s nothing wrong with playing the game on Thursday night and then sitting around to watch the game with friends on a Friday night,” said Niedig. The Sugar Creek Tournament at Crawfordsville has changed to a Thursday-Saturday format, and the Logansport-Kokomo game moved to This evening from Friday. Warren Central announced its game with Lawrence North is also moving to tonight. The Bloomington South at Bloomington North game was moved from Friday to Jan. 12.
Class 4A No. 4 Pike (8-1) at No. 1 Fishers (10-0), has also moved their game from Friday to Tonight. The semifinals of the Hendricks County Tournament will now be this evening instead of Friday. Niedig said he’s heard from several families with high school athletes who would love to be Hoosiers now. He also went to the Rose Bowl in California. “It’s fun to watch this team. The Rose Bowl was so exciting. It was awesome to see the number of fans who came out to watch the Hoosiers play in California,” said Niedig. Kickoff between Indiana and Oregon is set for Friday at 7:30 pm in Atlanta. The winner moves on to the National Championship game.
Indiana Pacers Lose a Franchise Record 13th game in a Row Darius Garland scored 14 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter, fueling a late 13-point run that sent the Cleveland Cavaliers past the struggling Indiana Pacers 120-116 on Tuesday for their fourth win in five games. Indiana, the defending Eastern Conference champs, lost its 13th straight to set a franchise record in its NBA era. The Pacers are now a league-worst 6-31 and are one loss away from matching the Washington Wizards’ 14-game skid for the league’s longest skid this season. The Cavs weren’t even at full strength in this one. Coach Kenny Atkinson gave All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell a day off just hours after team officials announced Max Strus was expected to miss at least another month because of a left foot injury. Atkinson said that the updated timeline was not because Strus had suffered a setback. Cleveland also lost forward Dean Wade in the first half with a bruised left knee.
And yet, Cleveland managed to erase the nine-point deficit they faced entering the fourth quarter. Evan Mobley had 20 points while Jarrett Allen and Sam Merrill each scored 19. Merrill went 6 of 10 on 3-pointers. Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 22 points and Jay Huff tied his season high with 20 points, going 7 of 10 from the field wand 4 of 7 on 3s. Andrew Nembhard had 15 points and 11 assists. Indiana played without center Isaiah Jackson, swingman Bennedict Mathurin, forward Obi Toppin and All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton because of injuries. Indiana still had a chance to force overtime in the waning seconds but couldn’t tie the score as the game turned into a free-throw contest. The loss also delayed coach Rick Carlisle’s 1,000th win for yet two more days. The Indiana Pacers travel to Charlotte to face the Hornets tonight at 7 PM
