#10 Nebraska Remains Unbeaten Handing Indiana University Men’s Basketball Their First Home Loss #10 Nebraska Cornhuskers held off the Indiana Hoosiers 83-77 Saturday Afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Nebraska one of six teams that were unbeaten coming into today along with Arizona Michigan Iowa State, Vanderbilt and Miami (Ohio). Nebraska is 16-0 on the season and 5-0 in the Big Ten and Miami Ohio won at Toledo 87-73 on Friday Night. Indiana drops to 12-4 and 3-2 in the Big Ten and the Hoosiers will travel to Michigan State on Tuesday Night at 7 PM. Indiana was 10-0 at home coming into today’s game and Nebraska beats Indiana for the fifth time in Bloomington and second straight time after an 85-70 win on February 21, 2024, as the Cornhuskers have won five in a row against the Hoosiers as Indiana leads the all-time series 19-12.

Jamarques Lawrence led the Cornhuskers with 27 points Reink Mast scored 13 points, Pryce Sandfort added 12 points, and Braden Frager added 11 points off the bench. Nebraska finished the game 29-60 from the field for 43%, 14-34 from three-point range from 41% and 11-14 form the free throw line for 78. Nebraska pulled down 31 rebounds, dished out 18 assists, 9 steals, no blocks and 8 turnovers. Nebraska scored 24 points in the paint, 18 bench points, 14 points off turnovers, 11 points off turnovers and 10 points fastbreak points. Lamar Wilkerson led the Hoosiers with 32 Points knocking down 5 three pointers and 9-9 from the free throw line. Tucker DeVries added 17 points, and Reed Bailey scored 10 points. The Hoosiers finished 26-56 from the field for 46%, 11-30 from three-point range for 36% and 14-17 from the free throw line for 82%. Indiana pulled down 31 rebounds, dished out 16 assists, 4 steals, no blocks and 14 turnovers. Indiana scored 26 points in the paint, 19 bench points, 13 second chance points, 6 points off turnovers and 6 fastbreak points.

There were 8 ties and 7 lead changes as Indiana led 39-30 at halftime but the Cornhuskers outscored the Hoosiers 53-38 in the second half and made five of their last seven shots down the stretch to remain unbeaten and return home to Lincoln to face Oregon on Tuesday Night at 9 PM Eastern Time on the Big Ten Network. Nebraska is ranked in the top 10 for the first time since 1966 and extend their winning streak to 20 games after winning the College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas. Indiana led 65-59 with 8:27 left to go in the ball game and Nebraska went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 65-65 with 7:41 left. The Cornhuskers outscored the Hoosiers 18-12 the rest of the way as the Hoosiers had defensive breakdowns and the Cornhuskers continued to battle their way through to pull out another tough road win in always tough Big Ten Conference. Nebraska has picked up road wins over Illinois and Ohio State and now they add the Hoosiers to the list of Big Ten Road wins and at the top of the Big Ten standings. The Hoosiers travel to Michigan State Tuesday Night and host Iowa on Saturday afternoon. Indiana Head Coach Darian DeVries said after the game that “You cannot give up 53 points in the second half at home and expect to win.” Indiana had issues with turnovers down the stretch as well and Nebraska took advantage of those turnovers and get out of Bloomington with the victory.

Indiana University Women’s Basketball Faces Another Ranked Team in #14 Iowa The Indiana Hoosiers welcome the #14 Iowa Hawkeyes to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall at 5 PM this evening with the game televised on the Big Ten Network. Iowa leads the All-time series with Indiana 56-24 as Indiana won the last meeting on January 24, 2025, 74-67 in Iowa City. Indiana is 11-6 overall and 0-5 in the Big Ten as the Hoosiers have dropped four in a row and three straight against ranked opponents. The Hoosiers lost Thursday Night at #25 Nebraska 78-73 as Hoosiers have four ranked opponents this season and have lost all four of them. Shay Ciezki led the way 31 points, Zania Socka-Nguemen scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds along with 12 points from Freshman Maya Makalusky. 

The Hoosiers finished 29-57 from the field for 51%, 4-13 from three-point range for 31% and 11-13 from the free throw line for 85%. The Hoosiers pulled down 32 rebounds, dished out 12 assists, 3 steals, 1 block and 11 turnovers. Nebraska led 38-30 at halftime and outscored the Hoosiers 45-40 in the second half.  Shay Ciezki leads the Hoosiers with 23.3 Points, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. The Senior has scored 30 or more points in four games this season. Lenee Beaumont is averaging 14 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Beaumont was held scoreless Thursday night but had 3 assists, 2 rebounds, a steak and a block at Nebraska. 

Zania Socka-Nguemen averages 12.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game and returned to the starting lineup against Nebraska after coming off the bench at Maryland after missing 8 games with a lower leg injury. Edessa Noyan who started in Socka-Nguemen’s spot averages 5.2 points. 5.2 rebounds and a team leading 0.4 blocks per game.  The Hoosiers are averaging 72.3 points, 12.6 assists and 14.5 turnovers per game. Indiana shoots 47% from the field, 37 percent from three-point range and 77 percent from the free throw line. With Socka-Nguemen back in the lineup it gives Indiana that help up front that was hard to replace for the 8 games she was out with injury. 

Iowa is 13-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes have won three straight since their loss to top ranked Connecticut 90-64 on December 20, in Brooklyn New York. The Hawkeyes other loss came against Iowa State 74-69 in Ames on December 10. Iowa averages 82.5 points, 21.5 assists and 15.5 turnovers per game. The Hawkeyes shoot 50% from the field, 36% form three-point range and 67% from the field.  Ava Heiden is leading the team in scoring with 16.2 points and 1.1 blocks per game. Hannah Stuelke averages 13.6 points and leads the team with 8.3 rebounds per game. Chazadi Wright averages 13.1 points and a team leading 1.6 steals per game. Taylor Stremlow averages 7.7 points per game and leads the team with 3.9 assists per game. 

The Hawkeyes have a 14-Player Roster that represents Iowa, California, Illinois, Alaska, Oregon, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Georgia and Dominican Republic. Iowa has 4 Seniors, 1 Junior, 6 Sophomores and 3 Freshman for Head Coach Jan Jensen who is 36-13 in her second season in charge of the Hawkeyes.  This will be a game where Indiana has to come out and shoot well and get Socka-Nguemen going early and often inside. Indiana will battle inside with Heiden and Stuelke inside and slow down the guard play of the Hawkeyes. The matchup between Ciezki and Wright will be an entertaining one and these two teams have had instant classics over the years and could we see another happen today.

Bloomington South Sends Five to the Girls Wrestling State Finals  The Bloomington South Panthers will send five qualifiers to the Girls Wrestling State Finals next Friday at the Corteva Coliseum at Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis Next Friday after they finished in the top four of their respective weight classes Saturday at the Bloomington South Regional as 56 came out of this regional to represent their respective schools in the State Finals.  Bloomington South Senior Mariah Pope will make her second straight State Finals after finishing second in the 100-pound weight class. Four other Panthers will make their first appearance in the State Finals Senior Lila Pierce finished second at 120 pounds. Joslyn Hererra finished third at 105 pounds along with Freshman Samiya Love who finished third at 190 Pounds. Jaclyn Hillenburg finished Fourth at 235 pounds after forfeiting her last two matches due to injury. The five had to win their first two matches to qualify for the State Finals. 

Bloomington South Senior Madison Maxwell-125 Pounds and Junior Adriana Burns–140 lost their first-round matchups. Bloomington North Freshman Sarah Vorice won her first round matchup and fell in the Quarterfinals at 155 pounds. Sophomore Penelope Warren-125 Pounds and Junior Alexzandria Burns-135 Pounds lost their first-round matchup. Edgewood Freshman Eden Norton lost her opening round matchup at 140 pounds.  220 wrestlers competed in 14 weight classes in the regional with 16 in each class with the exception of the 105-pound class who had 12 wrestlers. Monroe County had 11 Wrestlers compete in nine different weight classes and there were no Monroe County Wrestlers in the 110 ,115-,130-,145 and 170-pound weight classes. 

Indiana Hoosiers Track and Field Finish Strong in Final Day of Rod McCravy Indiana track and field closes the Rod McCravy Invitational in Louisville, Ky on Saturday inside Norton Sports & Learning Center with several personal bests and individual event winners. “I was very pleased with our effort this weekend,” said head coach Ed Beathea. “We broke 2 school records and had several outstanding performances. This was a very positive start to the season for us.”

The final day had a heavy focus on the track, starting with the sprints. Jasiah Rogers earned the first win of the day in the 60-meter sprint with his time of 6.77. Several personal bests were broken in the men’s and women’s 300 meter. Kristina Vincic ran a 39.78 in the women’s contest. Trelee Banks-Rose continued to extend his school record time with his time of 32.89, winning the race. Tamer Saleh (9th) and Christian Woodson (11th) also set personal bests with times of 34.04 and 34.09, respectively. In the 800, the Hoosiers had seven finishers in the top 15 in the women’s race, including Nola Somers Glenn (2nd; 2:08.77), Lily Myers (3rd; 2:08.86 PR), Catie McCabe (4th; 2:09.56 PR), Michaela Quinn (6th; 2:12.99), Ellia Hayes (2:15.85 PR), Joey Rastrelli (13th; 2:17.00), and Ava Jarrell (14th; 2:17.42).  Nico Colchico ran to the win as the lone Hoosier in the men’s 800 meter with his time of 1:49.50.

The Hoosiers had two finishers in the top 10 with Katelyn Winton (4:56.15) and Maddie Rocchio (5:02.11) finishing seventh and ninth, respectively. Jessica Hegedus (9:53.68) and Mary Eubank (10:05.98) each recorded personal best times to finish fifth and ninth, respectively in the women’s 3,000-meter run. The track closed with season best times in the men’s and women’s 4×400 relays. The quartet of Kristina Vincic, Veronica Hargrave, Ava Olomajeye, and Kiera Davis ran a time of 3:39.98, finishing sixth overall.  In the men’s race, the team of Cameron Mullens, Kalen Sargent, Tyler Tarter, and Daquan Tate recorded a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:11.14.

In the field, Kelly Moran (12.14m/39-10) started the day with an eighth-place finish in the women’s triple jump. Tyler Carrell followed in the pole vault with a second-place finish off a season best mark of 5.40m/17-8.5. Lukas Brauc (5.00m/16-4.75) also opened his first meet as a Hoosier with a sixth-place finish.  In the shot put, Seth Brosseau claimed a fifth-place finish with his distance of 17.03m/55-7.5. The Hoosiers will be back at home next week as they host the Indiana Invitational. The meet will span two days from Friday, January 16, to Saturday, January 17.

Indiana University Football Adds a Long Snapper and Punter from the Transfer Portal Indiana has reinforcements coming for special teams in 2026. The Hoosiers have added a punter and long snapper for next season. Melbourne, Australia based punter Billy Gowers is headed to Bloomington.  The Hawaii transfer arrives with three seasons of eligibility remaining.  He’ll turn 30 this summer following a career playing Australian Rules Football. Gowers averaged 46.2 yards on 49 punts in 2025 — good for No. 10 nationally.  He placed 25 punts inside the 20, and had 18 that went for more than 50 yards.  Gowers had the top punting grade in the nation at PFF.

Iowa State transfer long snapper Drew Clausen is also headed to IU. Clausen was the starting long snapper for the Cyclones each of the last two seasons, and at Northern Iowa before that.  He has one year of eligibility remaining.  The 6-foot-6 and 260-pound product of Grimes, Iowa has played in 39 career games. The Hoosiers are set to lose starting punter Mitch McCarthy and long snapper Mark Langston following the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Pete Combs’ Big Day Pushes the Taylor Trojans’ Men’s Basketball Win Streak to Ten Pete Combs carried the RV Taylor offense, while a terrific defensive display led to a 75-61 victory over RV Huntington on the road Saturday afternoon. The junior forward scored a game-high 25 points shooting 10-13 from the field including a pair of triples. Combs added five rebounds, two assists, and a steal in a standout performance. The Bloomfield, Indiana native, continues to lead the Crossroads League in field goal percentage at 69 percent, which also tops the NAIA for players with 150 or more attempts. TU’s winning streak extended to ten, matching the ten-game streak to begin the 2017-18 season and six-straight league wins, which is one shy of the seven they had in the 2012-13 season.

Combs scored the final seven points of an early 12-0 run to grab a ten-point lead after Huntington (12-5, 3-4 CL) scored the opening bucket. The Trojans’ lead was cut to one at 16-15 after a basket by Jackson Paul, who scored ten for Huntington. Anor Wogar pushed it to seven shortly after with a shot from beyond the arc before Huntington got within one at 28-27. Taylor slowly built the lad back out to nine before the break, with the bench outscoring Huntington’s 14-0 led by six a pieced from Wogar and TJ Davidson. The bench finished the game with a decisive 26-11 points advantage. The Foresters stayed within striking distance to begin the second half trimming the Trojans’ advantage to six five minutes into play after the break.

Izaiah Day splashed home a jumper off a feed from Carson Gould to ignite a 13-0 run to take a commanding 66-47 lead. Wogar added five points in the run and scored 11 points in the contest, the only other Trojan to reach double digits. The Purple and Gray coasted to the finish and wound up with a key 75-61 road victory, which keeps them in second in the Crossroads League, one game behind leaders No. 1 Grace (17-0, 7-0 CL). TU held a formidable Huntington offense to just 61 points, 15 points under their season average. Taylor forced 16 turnovers leading to a 14-7 advantage in points from turnovers. RV Taylor (14-3, 6-1 CL) continues play on the road with a matchup against Spring Arbor (9-8, 2-5 CL) on Wednesday, January 14th, tipping at 7:30 pm.  

Taylor University Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 20 Huntington Despite Late Rally RV Taylor women’s basketball nearly erased a double-digit deficit in the final minutes but fell to No. 20 Huntington 70-67 on Friday evening at Platt Arena. The Trojans dropped to 14-3 overall and 4-3 in Crossroads League play with their third consecutive loss to a ranked opponent. Kaycie Warfel led TU with 18 points despite overcoming early foul trouble and struggling to find her rhythm through the first three quarters. Celina Blount added 11 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, while Kendall Sietsema chipped in 10 points. Emma Fohl contributed nine points, including two crucial third-quarter three-pointers.

Huntington (13-4, 5-2 CL) jumped ahead early with a 10-0 run to build a 14-4 advantage, reaching the bonus before the six-minute mark as TU battled foul trouble. The Foresters converted 8 of 10 free throws in the period before the Trojans responded with an 11-0 run. Emma Ancelet capped the surge with a pull-up jumper to pull TU within 17-15, and the defense held Huntington scoreless over the final 3:30 of the frame. Quinn Kelly opened the second quarter with a jumper to tie the score at 17-17, completing the 11-0 run. Madi Allen’s second-chance jumper knotted the score again at 19-19, but Huntington answered with a 12-0 run. Back-to-back three-pointers forced a TU timeout with the Foresters ahead 29-19. Sietsema’s layup cut the halftime deficit to 36-26.

Fohl drilled a three-pointer two minutes into the third quarter to slice the deficit to 36-31, but Huntington responded each time TU threatened. After Fohl connected again to make it 41-36, the Foresters pushed the lead back to 50-38. Warfel knocked down her first three-pointer to stop the run and make it 52-43, but Huntington carried a 57-47 advantage into the final period. TU, which never led in the contest, mounted a furious fourth-quarter rally. Warfel’s reverse layup trimmed the deficit to 57-49, and Blount converted a jumper and two free throws to cut it to 59-53. Marissa Trout’s free throws made it 59-55, TU’s closest margin since midway through the second quarter.

The Trojans refused to fold as Allen’s putback made it 68-60 near the two-minute mark. Warfel connected on a layup to cut it to 69-65, and Ancelet’s jumper with 41 seconds left made it 70-67. TU held Huntington without a field goal over the final 3:40 and got one final chance when the Foresters missed two free throws with 19 seconds remaining. The Trojans generated open looks in the closing seconds but missed two open three-pointers and turned the ball over on the final possession.

Kyndra Sheets led five Huntington players in double digits with 18 points as the Foresters improved to 9-0 at home. Addie Shank posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Both teams shot below 40 percent overall from the field, with Huntington knocking down 40.9 percent (9-22) from three-point range. The Trojans held the rebounding advantage 47-37 and outscored the Foresters 40-28 on points in the paint. TU wraps up its road trip Wednesday at Spring Arbor (15-2, 6-1 CL) with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
