Tucker DeVries is averaging 14.6 points, a team leading 4.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game. DeVries has struggled as he has scored less than 10 points in three of the last four ball games scoring 17 points against Nebraska and a combined 20 points against Washington, Maryland and Michigan State. DeVries scored 9 points at Minnesota and 20 at home against Penn State in early December as needs to get back to scoring double figures in 11 of the Hoosiers 17 games this season. Lamar Wilkerson leads the Hoosiers scoring 20.2 points along with 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Tayton Conerway averages 11.9 points along with a team leading 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Reed Bailey is averaging 10.1 points while Sam Alexis leads the Hoosiers with 0.4 blocks per game. Conor Enright has 79 assists, 13 steals and 19 turnovers and picked up 2 quick fouls at Michigan State as the Hoosiers could not stay out of foul trouble Tuesday Night.
Iowa is looking to snap a three-game losing streak of their own as the Hawkeyes come to Bloomington with an overall record of 12-5 and 2-3 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes beat Maryland 83-64 and UCLA 74-61 at home and have lost three on the road at Michigan State 71-52 Minnesota 70-67 and Purdue 79-72. The Hawkeyes lost at home to Illinois 75-69. Bennett Stirtz leads the team with 17.7 points 5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Stirtz followed Head Coach Ben McCollum to Iowa from Drake after starting all 35 games for the Bulldogs a season ago scoring 673 points, dishing out 200 assists, 150 rebounds, 72 steals and 9 blocks leading Drake to a 31-4 record as the Bulldogs won both the Missouri Valley Regular Season and Conference Titles. Drake beat #6 seed Missouri 67-57 in the NCAA Tournament round of 64 as an #11 seed and lost to #3 seed Texas Tech 77-64 in the round of 32.
Cam Manyawu averages 7.6 points and leads the team with 4.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game. Iowa is averaging 78.7 points, 16.7 assists and 10.4 turnovers per game. The Hawkeyes shoot 48% from the field, 37% from three-point range and 75% from the free throw line. Tavion Banks is the second leading scorer at 9.6 points per game. Iowa has 14-Player Roster with 6 players from Missouri and 2 from Iowa as the rest of the team represents Texas, Illinois, Kansas Oklahoma, Tennessee and Spain. Ben McCollum who was born in Iowa City on April 12, 1981, returns to his hometown to coach the Hawkeyes. The 44-year-old played at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City from 1999-2001 and Northwest Missouri State from 2001-03. McCollum was a graduate assistant at Northwest Missouri State from 2003-05 and a assistant coach at Emporia State from 2005-09. McCollum is 437-100 in 17 years as at Head Coach. McCollum coached at Northwest Missouri State from 2009-24 with a record of 395-91 and won four NCAA Division II National Championships in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022. McCollum replaced DeVries at Drake when he left for West Virginia and Drake went 31-4 and lost in the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament a season ago. McCollum became the third coach to land in the Big Ten after coaching Drake joining DeVries and Minnesota’s Niko Medved.
This game is crucial for both teams looking to snap their losing streaks. For Indiana they do not want to drop two in a row at home after they squandered a 16 point second half lead to Nebraska and allowing the Cornhuskers to score 53 second half points. For the Hawkeyes they want to get a road win in an always tough Big Ten as they have not been able to get the job done on the road. It’s going to come down to three-point shooting, rebounding and who gets stops on defense and whoever wins this game will have some momentum going into their game while the team who comes up on the short end will have to figure out how to turn it around.
Indiana House of Representatives votes unanimously to rename stretch of S.R. 45 after Bob Knight IU fans could soon be driving to games on Bob Knight Memorial Way as they proceed to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall or Memorial Stadium. The Indiana House of Representatives voted unanimously this week to rename the stretch of S.R. 45 between College Ave. and Fee Lane in Bloomington after the legendary former IU basketball coach. That’s the stretch of road just north of the main IU Athletics facilities. The proposal now needs to pass the Senate before the Indiana Department of Transportation can proceed with implementing the change. The full release from the Indiana House is below.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION Urging the Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the stretch of State Road 45 that is between College Avenue and Fee Lane in Bloomington the “Bob Knight Memorial Way”.
STATEHOUSE (Jan. 14, 2026) – State Rep. Peggy Mayfield’s (R-Martinsville) proposal to rename a stretch of State Road 45 near Assembly Hall on Indiana University’s main campus in Bloomington after the late legendary basketball coach Robert “Bobby” Montgomery Knight recently passed the Indiana House of Representatives. “Bobby Knight is a legendary name in Indiana and across the college basketball landscape,” Mayfield said. “A road renamed in his honor will ensure his legacy and contributions to Indiana University, college basketball and the state of Indiana live on for years to come. I’m grateful to my colleagues in the House for supporting this resolution.”
Knight coached the Indiana University men’s basketball team from 1971 to 2000, where he led the Hoosiers to three national championships, 11 Big Ten championships and one National Invitation Tournament title. Known as “The General,” he ranks 14th on the all-time coaches list for victories and was named National Coach of the Year in 1975, ’76, ’87 and ’89. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991. A native of Ohio, Knight played basketball at Ohio State University, where he graduated with a degree in history and government. He then served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, where he would later coach the Black Knights basketball team, being named head coach at age 24. Knight then went to IU, where his name is still synonymous with Hoosier basketball.
Mayfield said that Knight’s famed rivalry and friendship with Purdue men’s basketball coach Gene Keady, his incredible career and prominent personality are some of the many reasons why in 49 other states it’s just basketball — but this is Indiana. Mayfield noted that if Indiana wins the College Football Playoff National Championship next week, they would become the first school in modern sports history to hold undefeated championships in both football, this season, and men’s basketball, the 1975-76 season under Coach Knight. House Concurrent Resolution 4 passed out the House unanimously. It will move to the Senate for further consideration. Once a renaming resolution passes through the Indiana General Assembly, the Indiana Department of Transportation can move forward with the project.
