Purdue Snaps a 13-game losing streak against Indiana University Women’s Basketball to Reclaim the Barn Burner Trophy The Purdue Boilermakers beat the Indiana Hoosiers 80-69 Sunday afternoon in Mackey Arena in West Lafayette to snap a 13-game losing streak to the Hoosiers and win the Barn Burner trophy for the first time since January 10, 2016, when they beat the Hoosiers 63-53 in West Lafayette. This was the 33rd meeting between the two teams as Purdue leads the Hoosiers 20-14. Purdue leads the all-time series 56-45 and beats Indiana for the first time since January 20, 2019, 56-53 in West Lafayette. Purdue is 29-16 all-time against the Hoosiers in West Lafayette. Purdue is 11-9 overall and 3-6 in the Big Ten. Katie Geralds picks up her 300th career win as head coach in her 13th season. Geralds played at Purdue form 2003-07 and lost one time to the Hoosiers as player but as coach she gets her first win against her archrival. Nya Smith led Purdue with 13 Points along with 12 points each from Madison Layden-Zay and Hila Karsch. Purdue shot 27-55 from the field for 49%, 11-22 from three-point range for 50% and 15-19 from the free throw line for 79%. Purdue pulled down 24 rebounds, 21 assists, 9 steals, 3 blocks and 15 turnovers.
Indiana is 11-10 overall and 0-9 in the Big Ten as the Hoosiers have lost eight in a row. Shay Ciezki scored 37 points, 11-18 from the field, 5-7 from three-point range and 10-11 from the free throw line. It’s the fifth 30-point game of the season for Ciezki and one short of her season high when she scored 38 points against Iowa State in November. Lenee Beaumont added 13 points as the Hoosiers were without Sophomore Zania Socka-Nugemen with a lower leg injury. Edessa Noyan started in her place pulling down 5 rebounds and a block but did not score. Jade Ondineme scored 3 points and pulled down 5 rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. Noyan and Ondineme both fouled out and Coach Moren has 6-4 Sophomore Faith Wiseman on the bench, but she did not play as the Hoosiers could have used her size in the late stages of the game with very thin frontcourt depth the Hoosiers have. Neveah Caffey scored 7 points, Jerni Kiaku scored 6 points, Maya Maklausky scored 3 points and Phoenix Stotjin played but did not score and Sophomore Chloe Spreen did not play. Indiana was 19-45 from the field for 42%, 7-16 from three-point range for 43% and 24-29 from the free throw line for 82%. Indiana pulled down 31 rebounds, 7 assists, 7 steals, 1 block and 20 turnovers.
Indiana led 15-11 after the first quarter. Purdue missed their first 8 shots but in the second quarter the shots were falling as the Boilermakers outscored the Hoosiers 30-14 in the second quarter to lead 41-29 at halftime. Indiana outscored Purdue 25-21 in the fourth quarter as Purdue led 62-54 at the end of the third quarter as the Hoosiers could not chip away in the fourth quarter as Purdue outscored Indiana 18-15 to keep the Hoosiers winless in the Big Ten and get the monkey of their back as the end a long losing streak and get the Barn Burner Trophy back. The two teams will meet in Bloomington on February 8, as Purdue has not swept the Hoosiers since 2012. Indiana has nine games left in Conference play and will host Michigan Thursday Night. Indiana struggled and with Socka-Nugemen sidelined again it will be hard for the Hoosiers to turn this thing around. Ciezki and Beaumont have carried the load, but they cannot do all by themselves and others need to pick up the scoring load or this eight game losing streak will continue and the Hoosiers will be staying home for the Big Ten Tournament as the top 15 of 18 teams make to Indianapolis in March.

Indiana University All American Defensive Tackle Tyrique Tucker to Return for the 2026 Season Indiana’s defensive line got a major boost on Saturday when Tyrique Tucker announced he was returning to the Hoosiers for his final year of eligibility. The 6-foot and 302-pound Tucker earned third-team All-America by the Associated Press in 2025 and was tabbed first-team All-Big Ten by the conference media and coach panels. After playing in a reserve role in 2024, Tucker started all 16 games for the national champs in 2025. Tucker had six sacks and 12 tackles for loss from his interior position in 2025. He had 40 total tackles and two pass breakups. Tucker’s return ensures continuity in the middle of IU’s defensive front, as fellow starter Mario Landino also announced his return to Indiana for 2026. The Hoosiers have also added interior defensive linemen Chiddi Obiazor (Kansas State) and Joe Hjelle (Tulsa) via the transfer portal over the last few weeks to help form what should be a strength of the 2026 roster. Indiana did lose both Hosea Wheeler and J’Mari Monette along the interior via the portal, along with Dominique Ratcliff, who is out of eligibility.

Omaha Supernovas hand Indy Ignite Their first loss of the season After starting the 2026 season with three consecutive road victories, the Indy Ignite’s perfect season ended Saturday night in the team’s home opener at the Fishers Event Center. The Supernovas earned a four-set victory by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-16 and 25-23. Despite the loss, the Ignite are tied at the top of the Major League Volleyball standings at 3-1. “I don’t think we showed up today,” Indy head coach Lauren Bertolacci said following the loss. “I think we had a lack of competitiveness, a lack of grit, not so much personality in the game – and we struggle when we play like that. I do believe it’s a big learning point for us on how we need to be aggressive in the game and how we need to be attacking it and winning the game. I don’t really care that we lose. … The issue would be the manner in which that happened today.” Ignite opposite hitter Azhani Tealer led the team with 15 kills and a block. Following Tealer on the Ignite’s scoring chart were Leketor Member-Meneh with 13 kills, Anna DeBeer with 11 kills and 14 digs, and middle blocker Lydia Martyn with nine kills and a block. Setter Mia Tuaniga finished with 46 assists, three kills, two blocks and a service ace. Libero Elena Scott tied her season high with 15 digs.
