Indiana Men’s Soccer beats Penn State 1-0 On the Road

Indiana Men’s Soccer beat Penn State 1-0 in State College PA Sunday Afternoon on the Big Ten Network. The Hoosiers have won 4 straight and have scored 14 goals and have not conceded a goal during the win streak which is at 390 minutes.  Penn State made a mistake to which they conceded a 75th minute own goal spelled doom for the Nittany Lions with defender Brandon Hackenberg misdirected a Nyk Sessock cross into his own net to put IU ahead. . The Hoosiers remain perfect in Big Ten road matches with a record of 3-0-0 in those contests.  Indiana handed Penn State its first conference loss of the season.  IU improved to 35-14-5 against Penn State all-time and 7-0-0 since 2016.  All five of Goalkeeper Roman Celentano’s saves came in the first half. Indiana is 9-3-1 and 4-2 in the Big Ten while Penn State falls to 8-5-1 and 4-1 in the Big Ten. Indiana Hosts Evansville tomorrow night at 7 PM.

Bloomington South Boys Tennis Duo Advances to State

The Bloomington South Boys Tennis duo of Chris Lian and Michael Asplund are headed to the Individual doubles state finals after winning the regional at Bedford North Lawrence Saturday. The Juniors beat Senior Donald Trey Fulton and Senior Spencer Lenahan of Evansville Reitz 6-2, 6-2. In the Championship Lian and Asplund beat Baylin Graf and Ryan Schulte of Bloomfield 6-0, 6-0. The Pair is 13-0 and will start play this Friday at 2 PM in the quarterfinals at Carmel HS. The semifinals and championship are Saturday at 10 AM and 2 PM.

Bloomington North Bloomington South Boys and Girls Edgewood Girls Advance

The Edgewood Boys Cross Country team finished 6th with 166 points and will not advance to the Semi State next weekend after Saturday’s regional championship at Bedford North Lawrence. The top 5 teams advance Northview won with 51 points, Bloomington South was second with 54, Bloomington North 3rd with 57, Terre Haute South was 4th with 107 and Bloomfield was 5th with 162. Terre Haute South Senior Matt Gambill won the individual title with a time of 16:15. Northview won the Girls Regional title with a score of 38 points. Bloomington North was second with a score of 55 points, Bloomington South was 3rd with 82 points, Terre Haute South and Edgewood both scored 121 points to round the top five and will advance to the semi state.  Junior Lilly Meyers of Bloomington South won the individual title with a time of 19:06. The Semi State will be held at Brown County this Saturday with girls starting at 11:30 AM and Boys at 12:15 PM.

High School Girls Volleyball Season Ends in Monroe County

The 2021 Girls High School Volleyball season is over for all four Monroe County schools as Bloomington North, Edgewood and Lighthouse Christian all lost in the sectional semifinals while Bloomington South lost on Thursday night in the first round. In Class 4A at Martinsville, Columbus East beat Bloomington South 3-1 ending the Panthers season at 9-21. Columbus East completed the sweep beating Bloomington North 3-0 ending the Cougars season at 21-8 after the Cougars beat East Central 3-0 in the semifinals Thursday. The Olympians beat Martinsville 3-0 in the championship game to advance to regionals next Saturday. In Class 3A at Owen Valley Edgewood beat South Vermillion Thursday night 3-0 to advance to the Sectional semifinals where the fell to Brownstown Central 3-1. Edgewood ends the season at 21-7. Brownstown Central beat Northview 3-0 in the Sectional Championship game and will advance to the Regional next Saturday. In Class 1A Lighthouse Christian 4-17 lost to Loogootee 3-0 in the semifinals. Loogootee beat Vincennes Rivet 3-0 in the championship game to advance to the Regional Next Saturday.
