
Indiana University Men’ Basketball Travels to Ohio State with the NCAA Tournament on the Line Indiana University will conclude the regular season with a road trip to Columbus, Ohio, to play at Ohio State today at 5:30 p.m. ET. Gus Johnson (PxP) and Jim Jackson (Analyst) will handle the FOX broadcast. Ohio State (19-11, 11-8 B1G) is under the direction of third-year head coach Jake Diebler. The Buckeyes have won three-straight home games, which includes ranked wins over Wisconsin (Feb. 17) and Purdue (March 1). Senior guard Bruce Thornton has averaged 19.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per night. The Fairburn, Ga., native is closing in on the Ohio State career scoring record set by Dennis Hopson (2,096 points) from 1983-97. Thornton will enter Saturday’s senior day game with 2,085 career points. Sophomore guard John Mobley Jr., who missed three games with a hand injury, has posted 15.8 points per night on a team-high 86 made 3-pointers. He has shot 43.2% from long range. Junior forward Devin Royal (14.0 points, 5.7 rebounds per game) and senior center Christoph Tilly (11.1, 4. each provide double-digit scoring averages.
The Hoosiers have won 114 times in a storied 202-game series against long-time Big Ten foe Ohio State. The win total is the second most for the Hoosiers against any single opponent, trailing only Northwestern (120). Indiana has won five-straight contests in the series dating back to the 2022-23 season, which includes road victories on Feb. 6, 2024 (76-73) and on Jan. 17, 2025 (77-76 in OT).
Indiana (18-12 9-10 B1G) returned to the win column with an emphatic 77-47 result against Minnesota on Wednesday, March 4, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers shot 57.4% (31-of-54) from the floor, the fourth-highest field goal percentage of the season. Senior forward Sam Alexis turned in his best offensive performance of the season with a season-high 23 points to pair with 11 rebounds (4 offensive) and two blocked shots. Fifth-year senior guard Lamar Wilkerson piled up 16 points, his 11th-straight game with at least 15 points, on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the 3-point line. Redshirt senior forward Tucker DeVries added 13 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Junior guard Nick Dorn chipped in 11 points with three made 3-pointers.
Senior forward Sam Alexis has made 21-straight starts for the Hoosiers. In that stretch, the Florida transfer has averaged 8.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. He has shot 65.7% (73-of-106) from the floor. Over his final five home starts, Alexis averaged 15.8 points on 83.3% (35-of-42) shooting from the floor to go with 6.0 rebounds per game. Alexis provided 10 rebounds and six blocked shots at Rutgers on Jan. 23, the first 10-rebound, 5-block performance by a Hoosier in a Big Ten road game since Trayce Jackson-Davis (Jan. 25, 2023). Against Wisconsin on Feb. 7 he became the first IU player since Kel’el Ware (Feb. 27, 2024) to score at least 15 points, grab more than five rebounds, block at least five shots on 90.0% shooting from the floor. Alexis posted a season-high 23 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots on 81.8% shooting from the floor in a Senior Night win over Minnesota on March 4. He became the first Hoosiers since Kel’el Ware (2x in 2024) to post a 20-10-2 game on 80.0% shooting or better in Big Ten Conference play.

Indiana Hoosiers Qualify Three for NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship Indiana University track and field earned three qualifiers for 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships. Trelee Banks Rose (200m), Veronica Hargrave (800m), and Camden Marshall (800m) will represent the Hoosiers in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 13-14. Banks will make his debut with the fourth fastest qualifying 200-meter time. He comes in following a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championship last weekend. He set consecutive school records in the preliminary round (20.70) and in the finals (20.37). This is the fifth instance he has broken or tied an indoor school record this season, including breaking the 300-meter school record.
Hargrave will make her first appearances at the Indoor championship after being the first Hoosier to win the women’s 600-meter at the Big Ten Championship since Molly Beckwith (2010), breaking her previous school record. She has also broken the indoor 800-meter record with her time of 2:01.64 in the Valentine Invitational. Marshall will be competing in his third appearance at the indoor championship and first in an individual event. He has previously competed in two other DMR teams in 2023 and 2024. Those teams earned fifth and sixth place finishes, respectively, the last time the Hoosiers qualified for the championship.
Indiana-DePaul Men’s Soccer Spring Match Pushed Back to Sunday Indiana athletics announced on Thursday the IU men’s soccer spring exhibition match versus DePaul, originally scheduled for this afternoon will now be played tomorrow afternoon due to anticipated weekend weather. Fans are encouraged to attend Indiana’s lone true home match at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 pm tomorrow afternoon and admission is free. The sides will play three 30-minute periods.
Top Seed UCLA Overcomes Slow First Quarter to Beat #8 Seed Washington in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament The Top Seed UCLA Bruins overcame a slow first quarter start to beat the #8 Seed Washington Huskies 78-60 in the Quarterfinals of the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Friday Afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Regular Season Big Ten Champion Bruins are 29-1 and advanced to this afternoons Semifinals at 2 PM. Washington is 21-10 and will await their postseason tournament fate. Washington led 15-6 at the end of the first quarter but the Bruins outscored the Huskies 21-9 in the second quarter to lead 27-24 at halftime. UCLA outscored Washington 51-36 in the second half. The Bruins outscored the Huskies 22-17 in the third quarter to lead 49-41 going into the fourth quarter. UCLA finished the game outscoring Washington 29-19 in the fourth quarter to advance to tomorrow’s semifinals.
Big Ten Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Lauren Betts scored 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. Betts went 13-20 from the field and 0-1 from the free throw line and scored 10 first half points. Kiki Rice scored 18 points and dished out 6 assists. Gianna Kneepkens scored 13 points and went 5-5 from the free throw line. Charlise Ledger-Walker added 10 points. UCLA had 36 rebounds, 19 assists, 7 steals, no blocks and 10 turnovers. The Bruins scored 52 points in the paint, 17 points off turnovers, 12 second chance points, 10 fastbreak points and 6 bench points. Avery Howell led Washington with 18 points, Brynn McGaughy added 12 points along with 10 points apiece from Sayvia Sellers and Elle Ladine. Washington was 24-53 from the field for 45%, 6-22 from three-point range for 27% and 6-8 from the free throw line for 75%. The Huskies had 25 rebounds, 16 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks and 14 turnovers. Washington scored 32 points in the paint, 9 fastbreak points, 7 points off turnovers, 6 second chance points and 5 bench points.
Washington game out aggressively and played good defense holding the Bruins to six first quarter points as Lauren Betts had 4 of the 6 points with Gianna Kneepkens scoring the other two. UCLA came alive in the second quarter and outscored the Huskies 72-45 the rest of the game as there were 3 ties and 5 lead changes. UCLA finished the regular season 18-0 and won the Conference Championship. A season ago the Bruins won the Big Ten Tournament Championship defeating USC after there only two conference losses came to the Trojans in the Regular Season. UCLA made the final four a season ago and the Bruins are expected to receive a Number 1 seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Washington will be in the postseason and Tina Langley’s team could be a sleeper team to watch in a couple weeks.
#5 Seed Ohio State Takes Down #4 Seed Minnesota in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals The #5 Seed Ohio State Buckeyes knocked off the #4 Minnesota Golden Gophers 60-55 in the Quarterfinals of the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Friday afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Ohio State improves to 26-6 and advances to the Semifinals this afternoon at 2 PM against Top Seed UCLA. Minnesota is 22-8 on the season and return to Minneapolis to await their postseason tournament fate. Jaloni Cambridge scored 17 points, dished out 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and a block. With 28 seconds left in the game Cambridge threaded the needle driving to the bucket with 16 seconds left to seal the win for Ohio State. Minnesota’s Mara Braun drilled a three pointer with 1:32 left in the fourth quarter. The Golden Gophers missed four three pointers after Braun three pointer as they had several opportunities to take the lead but could not take advantage.
Elsa Lemmilla scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds her 6th double-double of the season. The 6-6 Sophomore from Finland recorded her double figure rebound of the season and her sixth in a row. Chance Gray added 11 points for the Buckeyes. Ohio State finished 26-64 from the field for 40%, 6-26 from three-point range for 23% and 2-5 from the free throw for 40%. Ohio State had 27 rebounds, 17 assists, 12 steals, 3 blocks and 11 turnovers. Ohio State scored 36 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers, 15 fastbreak turnovers, 7 second chance points and no bench points. Grace Grocholski led Minnesota with 18 points. Sophie Hart recorded a career high 19 rebounds and 12 points for her fourth double-double of the season. The 6-5 Senior from Farmington, Minnesota recorded her seventh game of the season with double figure rebounds. Amaya Battle added 10 points for the Golden Gophers. Minnesota finished 23-54 from the field for 42%, 4-18 from three-point range for 22% and 5-8 from the free throw line for 62%. Minnesota pulled down 44 rebounds, dished out 15 assists, 7 steals, 1 block and 21 turnovers. Minnesota scored 34 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, 10 fastbreak points, 7 bench points and 6 fastbreak points.
The game featured six ties and three lead changes. Minnesota led Ohio State 18-16 after the first quarter and Buckeyes outscored the Golden Gophers 16-10 in the second quarter as Ohio State went into the locker room leading 32-28 at halftime. The game was tight in the second half as the Buckeyes outscored the Golden Gophers by 1 point 15-14 in the third quarter as Ohio State took a 47-42 lead into the fourth quarter. Both teams scored 13 points in the final ten minutes. Ohio State gets ready to play its third game in three days and faces a UCLA team who beat them in Columbus 82-75 on December 28. Jaloni Cambridge scored 28 points against the Bruins in the regular season, Elsa Lemmilla scored 13 points and had 7 rebounds and has a tough matchup with Big Ten Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Lauren Betts who scored 18 points and had 16 rebounds in the first meeting. For Minnesota the Golden Gophers are expected in be in the NCAA Tournament and as head coach Dawn Plitzuweit said after the game “We are thankful that we get to keep playing”. The Golden Gophers Head Coach said that Buckeyes “Speed them up and made them feel uncomfortable” but they had plenty of chances at the end of the game to pull out the victory, but Ohio State holds on an gets ready for another one tomorrow afternoon against UCLA.
#2 Seed Iowa Scores Inside to Beat #10 Illinois in the Quarterfinals of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament #2 Seed Iowa Hawkeyes beat the #10 Illinois Fighting Illini 64-58 in the Quarterfinals of the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Friday Evening at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Iowa improves to 25-5 and will play in the second semifinal today at 4:30 PM. Illinois is 21-11 on the season and will return to Champaign-Urbana to await their post-season tournament fate a week from Sunday Night. Ava Heiden led the Hawkeyes with 16 points, Hannah Stuleke scored 13 points, Chit-Chat Wright added 12 points, and Kylie Feuerbach added 10 points along with 12 rebounds from Journey Houston. Iowa went 26-55 from the field for 47%, 4-14 from three-point range for 28% and 8-11 from the free throw line for 72%. Iowa had 36 rebounds, 20 assists, 7 blocks, 2 steals and 16 turnovers. Iowa scored 36 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers, 5 second chance points, 5 fastbreak points and 4 bench points.
Jasmine Brown Hagger led Illinois with 22 points, Berry Wallace added 13 points, and Destiny Jackson scored 10 points. Illinois finished 21-63 from the field for 33%, 5-22 from three-point range for 22% and 11-14 from the free throw line for 78%. Illinois had 33 rebounds, 12 assists, 6 steals, 2 blocks and 11 turnovers. Illinois scored 26 points in the paint, 17 points off turnovers, 11 second chance points, 9 bench points and 7 fastbreak points. Iowa led 21-11 at the end of first quarter as the Hawkeyes were 8-14 from the field for 57% 1-3 from three-point range for 33% and 4-4 from the free throw in the first quarter. Illinois struggled as they were 5-18 from the field for 27% and 1-6 0for 16% from three-point range. Iowa led 37-23 at Halftime as the Hawkeyes outscored the Fighting Illini 16-12 in the second quarter. The Hawkeyes were 14-27 from the field for 52%, 3-6 from three-point range for 50% and 6-7 from the free throw line for 85%. Illinois was 10-31 from the field for 32%, 2-10 for 20% from three-point range and 1-2 from the free throw line for 50% in the first half.
Iowa led 53-31 at the end of the third quarter as the Hawkeyes used a 7-0 run to end the quarter as Illinois scoreless for four minutes. Iowa outscored Illinois 16-8 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was a different story as Fighting Illini mounted a comeback that fell short. Illinois had a 17-2 run in the last 4:22 and 15-0 in the 3:43 as they outscored the Hawkeyes 27-11 in the fourth quarter and held the Hawkeyes scoreless for 3:59 as they committed four turnovers down the stretch. Iowa survives to advance to the Semifinals, and a lot of fans made the trip from Iowa City to Indianapolis including former player Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall. Illinois fans made the trip over as well as they are two of the top traveled fanbases in the Big Ten and with no Indiana teams left in the tournament Iowa along with Ohio State will have the majority of the crowd that is here in Indianapolis.
#3 Seed Michigan sees Balance Effort in convincing win over #11 Seed Oregon in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament The #3 Seed Michigan Wolverines took care of the #11 Seed Oregon Ducks 80-58 win in the final Allstate Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Quarterfinal Friday Night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Michigan is 25-5 and will face #2 Seed Iowa this afternoon in the second semifinal at 4:30 PM. Oregon is 22-12 and will return to Eugene to await their postseason tournament fate. Syla Swords led the Wolverines with 17 points, Olivia Olson scored 16 points, Ashley Sofilkanich scored 14 points and 10 points from Kendall Dudley and Mila Holloway dished out 10 assists and had 9 points. Michigan went 31-71 from the field for 43%, 4-19 from three-point range and 14-19 from the free throw line for 73%. The Wolverines had 44 rebounds, 18 assists, 11 steals, 3 blocks and 9 turnovers. Michigan scored 34 points in the paint, 20 second chance points, 20 bench points, 18 points off turnovers and 6 fastbreak points.
Katie Fiso scored 22 points to lead the Ducks and Ehis Etute recorded her third straight double-double in three days scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Oregon went 24-59 from the field for 40%, 3-19 from three-point range for 15% and 7-14 from the free throw line for 50%. Oregon had 31 rebounds, 15 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks and 17 turnovers. The Ducks scored 36 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, 5 bench points, 5 fastbreak points and 4 fastbreak points. The game was tied and there were no lead changes. Michigan led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Wolverines outscored the Ducks 15-11 in the second quarter as Michigan went into the locker room leading 31-24 at halftime with 11 points from Oregon’s Katie Fiso. Michigan outscored Oregon 47-34 in the second half. Michigan outscored Oregon 23-19 at the end of the third quarter as the Wolverines led 54-43 going into the fourth quarter. Michigan closed the final quarter outscoring Oregon 24-15 and ended the game a 6-0 run in the final two and half minutes as the Ducks were held scoreless for the final two minutes and 35 seconds of the game.
Michigan gets a chance to face Iowa for a second time after the Hawkeyes beat the Wolverines 62-44 on February 22nd in Iowa City. Michigan head coach Kim Barnes-Arico talked about how hard that game was playing on their Senior day at 11 am local time and how Iowa came out very physical and put the game away early and the players are excited for the rematch and players admitted how tough a place Carver Hawkeye Arena is to play with a 15 thousand fans rooting against them. Iowa has a lot of fans in Indianapolis and so does Michigan so it will be a dogfight for the chance to play for a Big Ten Championship against UCLA or Ohio State on Sunday.
