The Bloomington South Panthers scored 207.5 points to repeat as IHSAA Girls Sectional Track and Field Champions and this time they lift the trophy on their home track. The meet was started Tuesday Night and 52 minutes into the completion lighting was spotted delaying the competition and eventually suspending the meet for the rest of evening bringing everyone back on Wednesday evening to resume and complete the competition.
Only three events were completed on Tuesday Night the 4×800 Meter Relay along with the prelims of the 100 Meters and the 110 Meter Hurdles. The delay had no effect on the Monroe County schools as the won all 16 events and all three teams finished in the top three in scoring. Bloomington North was second with 207.5 points and Edgewood third with 103.5 points.
Bloomington South takes home their 21 Sectional title on program history Bloomington North has won 22 Sectional Titles as the Bloomington Schools have won a combined 43 Sectional Titles in Girls Track and Field since 1974 and continue their dominance winning this Sectional every year. There was no Girls Track and Field State Tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The last time a team outside of Bloomington won the sectional was 1999 which was the last time Martinsville won a sectional title.
Bloomington South won 12 of the 16 events with Helena Cutshall winning the 100 Meters and the Long Jump. Violet Hall won the 200 Meters Ellie Barada won the 800 and 1600 Meters. Jasmine Martogilo won the 3200 Meters. Adrienne Shaveitz won the 100- and 200-Meter Hurdles. The Panthers won all three relays. Reese Robertson won the High Jump.
Edgewood won three events with Ella LaRoche winning the Pole Vault. Mikayla Prater won the Discus and Macey Crider won the Shot Put. Bloomington North won one event with Lucah Feegans winning the 400 Meters.
The Panthers Edith Long was 2nd in the 200 Meters and 3rd in the 400 Meters. Claire Hill was 2nd in both the 100- and 200-Meter Hurdles. Alania Bunnell was 3rd in the 100 Meters Lexi Kollbaum was 2nd in both 800 and 1600 Meters. Chelsea Johnson was third in the Pole Vault. Lillian Waldrep was 3rd in the discus as they all advance to Regionals.
Edgewood’s Macey Crider finished 2nd in the 100 Meters. Hannah Crain was 2nd in the 3200 meters. Kelsey Davis finished 3rd in the 200 Meter Hurdles. Langley Hill finished third in the Long Jump Ava Norton was third in the Shot Put. The Mustangs finished second in the 4×100 Meter Relay to advance to the Regionals
Bloomington North’s Jossilyn Draughn finished 3rd in the 200 Meters. Penny Eads finished 3rd in the 3200 Meters. Sophia Winkle finished second in the Long Jump and 3rd in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Ashley Greer was second in both the Discus and the Shot Put. The Cougars finished second in the 4×400 and 4×800 meter relay along with a third-place finish in the 4×100 Meter Relay to advance to the Regionals.
Linton’s Shaylie Killion finished second in the 400 Meters. Martinsville’s Eleanor Barco finished third in the both the 800 Meters and 1600 Meters. Clay City’s Lilly Reidel finished second in the Pole Vault and Mallori Bettenbock finished third in the High Jump. Owen Valley finished third in the 4×400 Meter Relay. Eastern Greene’s Kena Maddox finished second in the High Jump finished third in the 4×800 Meter Relay to round out the group that will head to the Regional Next Tuesday Night that will be hosted by Bloomington South at 6 PM with the Sectional Winners and too three finishers from Columbus North, Seymour and Madison joining them.
