Maryland Beats Indiana Football 38-35

Indiana Football lost at Maryland 38-35 Saturday Afternoon in College Park. The loss puts the Hoosiers at 2-6 and 0-5 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers will have to win the four remaining regular season games on their schedule to have any chance of making a bowl game.  “I’m very disappointed,” head coach Tom Allen told Voice of the Hoosiers Don Fischer during his post-game radio show. “We needed this win “. Maryland jumped out to 14-0 lead after scoring on their first two possessions. Indiana trailed 14-10 at halftime and led 17-14 after a Stephen Carr 66-yard touchdown run to make it 17-14 with 11:12 left in the third quarter. Maryland led the rest of the way and the Hoosiers got within three with a minute to go in the game. Taulia Tagovaolia was 26-40 for 419 yards passing and 2 touchdown passes to Carlos Carriere who caught 8 passes for 134 yards.  Maryland is 5-3 and 2-3 in the Big Ten. Donaven McCulley started his first career game at quarterback for the Hoosiers and was 14-25 passing for 252 yards 2 Touchdown passes. “It was his first college start as a true freshman on the road in the Big Ten, that’s tough to do”. He played the way I hoped he would. Expected him to” Allen Said. The Offensive Line had a hard time protecting McCulley who was sacked four times. Stephen Carr had 21 carries for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns for his 100 yard plus rushing game of the season. Peyton Hendershot had 6 receptions for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns as he became the all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end with 1,383 yards passing Ted Bosler who had 1, 337. Hendershot broke Bosler’s record of most receptions last week against Ohio State Hendershot has 125 receptions and Bosler had 117. Hendershot is one touchdown shy tying Bosler’s record of 15 touchdowns.  Charles Campbell kicked three field goals for Indiana. The Hoosiers will play in their 5th primetime game this season when the travel to Michigan this Saturday for a 7:30 PM Kickoff on FOX. 

Bloomington North and South Advance Edgewood Eliminated in Football Sectionals

Bloomington North beat Evansville North 35-30 while the crosstown rival Bloomington South Panthers beat Castle 16-14 Friday night to set up a Class 5A Sectional 15 championship Football game between the city rivals at Bloomington South next Friday Night at 7 PM. Bloomington North improves to 7-3 and Bloomington South is 7-2 on the season. Bloomington South won the regular season this season 28-14 on the Southside on September 10th. The Panthers have owned this series leading 45-14 and have won 10 of the last 11 matchup’s dating back to 2014 with the Cougars only win coming in 2019 winning 38-27. This will be the second time the two teams have met in the sectional championship game. Bloomington North beat Bloomington South 24-21 in 2013. Bloomington South is 7-2 all time against Bloomington North in Sectional matchups with the Panthers beating the Cougars 34-6 in 2017.  Vincennes Lincoln beat Edgewood 28-0 in the Class 3A Sectional 30 Semifinals on the red turf in Ellettsville Friday Night. Edgewood ends the season at 2-8 under first year head coach Caleb True and was shutout for the fourth time in five games. Vincennes Lincoln improves to 3-8 and will host Owen Valley next Friday night for the Class 3A Sectional 30 Championship game at 7 PM. Owen Valley is 9-1 and won at Brown County Friday Night 34-0.

Tennessee Titans beat Indianapolis Colts 34-31 in Overtime

The Tennessee Titans beat the Indianapolis Colts 34-31 in overtime at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday Afternoon. The Titans sweep the regular season series with the Colts beating them in Nashville in Week 3 25-16. Tennessee is 6-2 on the season and has a firm grip on lead in the AFC South Division. The Colts Carson Wentz was picked off deep in his own territory with 1:26 left in regulation when Elijah Molden returned the ball 2 yards to the end zone to make with 31-24. The Colts marched down the field and scored with 22 seconds left on a Jonathan Taylor one yard touchdown run to tie the game up. Wentz threw another interception in overtime as Randy Bullock kicked a 44-yard field goal to give the Titans the win.  The Colts held Titan’s star running back Derrick Henry to 68 yards rushing on 28 carries and no touchdowns. Ryan Tannehill was 22-33 passing for 265 yards 3 touchdowns and threw 2 interceptions. AJ Brown caught 10 passes for 155 yards and touchdown and former Indiana Hoosier Nick Westbrook-Ikhine caught a touchdown pass as he had 2 receptions for 16 yards. Carson Wentz was 27-51 passing for 231 yards 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Jonathan Taylor had 70 yards rushing and a touchdown on 16 carries. Michael Pittman Jr caught 10 passes for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns. T.Y. Hilton was knocked out of the game with a concussion he caught 2 passes for 16 yards. The Colts are 3-5 overall and 1-3 at home and have short week as they host the New York Jets this Thursday Night at Lucas Oil Stadium 8:20 PM on FOX and NFL Network.   

Bloomington North Boys Cross Country 13th at State Finals

The Bloomington North Boys Cross Country team finished 13th at the State Cross Country finals Saturday afternoon at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Championship Course in Terre Haute. The Cougars scored 344 Points; Bloomington South was 18th with 441 points. Brebeuf Jesuit won the state title with 78 Points and Columbus North Senior Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff won the Individual State Championship. Columbus North won the Girls State Championship with a score of 79 points. Bloomington North was 15th with 365 points. Lilly Myers of Bloomington South was 14th and Clara Crain of Edgewood was 37th.  Junior Lilly Cridge of Indianapolis Bishop Chatard won the Individual State Championship.
