Indiana Hoosier Hogan Denny Makes the United States Collegiate National Baseball Team   Following two weeks of training and scrimmages, Indiana utility man Hogan Denny was selected to the final roster for the 2026 USA Collegiate National Team. He was one of 28 players chosen for the roster that will compete in the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championships in Taiwan (July 11-15). The entire travel party will leave for Asia this morning. Denny proved himself invaluable during his time in training camp down in North Carolina. In select scrimmages, he appeared at catcher, third base, left field and right field while batting near the top of the order. He is one of six players to be selected from the Big Ten Conference. Denny will wear number 47 during his time with the stars and stripes.

Team USA will begin its journey in the tournament against Korea on July 11th at 12:30 a.m. ET. Additional games in Pool Play will come against Chinese Taipei (July 12) and Japan (July 13). The semifinals will be on July 14th before the gold medal game to wrap up the tournament (July 15). Team USA will be managed by longtime Illinois skipper Dan Hartleb. Denny is the seventh player in program history to make the USA Collegiate National Team. He’s the second (Devin Taylor – 2024) to do so under head coach Jeff Mercer. Denny is coming off a brilliant sophomore campaign that saw him earn First Team All-Big Ten honors after hitting .357 with 14 home runs and 18 doubles.

Former Indiana Hoosier Kyle Schawrber is a Major League Baseball All-Star for the Fourth Time IU baseball legend Kyle Schwarber is a Major League Baseball All-Star once again. The 33-year-old Schwarber will make his fourth All-Star appearance on July 14. Schwarber leads MLB with 30 home runs, and the NL with a .570 slugging percentage. He is fourth in baseball with a .935 OPS. Schwarber won the 2025 All-Star MVP Award when he went 3-for-3 in a home run swing-off in Atlanta. The 96th Midsummer Classic will be played in Schwarber’s home stadium.  The MLB All-Star Game, in the country’s 250th year, will be played in Philadelphia, the nation’s birthplace. Schwarber is one of six former IU baseball players to appear in the major leagues this season: Tanner Gordon (Pitcher, Colorado) — 10 appearances with three starts.  0-2, 6.69 ERA. Kyle Hart (Pitcher, San Diego) — 19 appearances with one start.  0-1, 4.05 ERA. Tim Herrin (Pitcher, Cleveland) — 36 appearances all in relief.  0-3, 3.14 ERA. Jack Perkins (Pitcher, Athletics) — 22 apperances with five starts.  2-3, 6.00 ERA. Craig Yoho (Pitcher, Milwaukee) — 5 appearances, all in relief.  0-0, 6.00 ERA.

Indiana Fever take down the Las Vegas Aces 84-68 led by Kelsey Mitchell’s 27 points Coming off a week’s rest, the Indiana Fever traveled to Las Vegas and beat the defending champion Aces, 84-68. The Aces’ 68 points scored marked the fewest points Indiana has allowed in a game this season. On Sunday, the Fever were without Caitlin Clark for the second straight game. In her absence, center Aliyah Boston and point guard Kelsey Mitchell powered the offense to secure Indiana’s second straight win. Boston recorded her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She also knocked down three triples, matching a season high last set on June 4 against the Atlanta Dream. Although Mitchell shot 39 percent from the field, the ninth-year Fever guard posted a game-high 27 points and hit three triples. As a team, Indiana shot 43 percent from the floor and 39 percent from three. The Fever also handed out 18 assists, compared to the Aces’ 14. Indiana controlled the glass as well, outrebounding the Aces 39-30, and forced 13 Las Vegas turnovers compared to the Fever’s 7. Sunday’s win also marked the Fever’s first-ever win in Las Vegas after 11 previous losses. With the win, Indiana improves to 12-8. Sunday’s matchup was the first of four straight road games before the Fever return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse to face the Golden State Valkyries on July 15. Indiana is back on the road Wednesday against the Los Angeles Sparks at 10 p.m. ET.

Purdue Men’s Basketball Adds Four-Star Recruit Kevin Savage for the 2027 Class Purdue men’s basketball has landed its latest 2027 commit in four-star point guard Kevin Savage III, who announced his decision Sunday in an interview with CBS Sports. Savage becomes the second commit in Purdue’s 2027 recruiting class, joining five-star center and Pike High School standout Isaiah Hill. The 5-foot-11 Marietta, Ga., native chose the Boilermakers over Georgia, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Florida State, and Auburn. He’s ranked No. 36 nationally and No. 9 among point guards, according to 247sports. This spring on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, Savage averaged 20.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game across April and May. With head coach Matt Painter already securing Hill, Savage now looks to create another top point guard-center tandem at Purdue.

Pato O’Ward wins at Mid-Ohio for his First Indy Car Win of the Season Pato O’Ward capped off a dominant weekend for Arrow McLaren at the Mid-Ohio Sports Course by capturing his first win of the season on Sunday afternoon. O’Ward held off his teammate Christian Lundgaard to snap a 14-race winless streak dating back to last year’s race on the streets of Toronto. The win was also his first podium of the season. “It’s been a year, it’s been a tough one for sure,” O’Ward said. “I think today is just a perfect example of execution. I waited for the perfect time to pounce and from there we just controlled it.”

O’Ward passed Lundgaard for the lead on lap 42 after the polesitter went wide off the exit in turn 2. The 1-2 finish for McLaren is the team’s first in the IndyCar Series. Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood finished third to round out the podium. Juncos Hollinger’s Rinus VeeKay finished fourth with Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou coming in fifth. Kirkwood was able to cut a couple of points off of Palou’s lead in the championship standings. The four-time series champ has a 56-point lead with seven races to go this season. The series’ next race is in two weeks at the Nashville Superspeedway.

Indy Eleven Celebrates the Fourth of July with a Shutout Win over the Charleston Battery Indy Eleven scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to extend its USL Championship home unbeaten streak to 10 (9-0-1) dating back to last August with a 2-0 shutout of Charleston Battery at Carroll Stadium. The Boys in Blue broke the scoreless tie in the 82nd minute when captain Aodhan Quinn played a free kick to the edge of the six where 6’5 Makel Rasheed headed it across to the far post for Josh O’Brien to volley home for his third goal in USL-C play and his fourth in all competitions this season.  O’Brien is second on the team in both of those categories, while Rasheed recorded his second assist.

Indy Eleven forward Loïc Mesanvi ignited the sequence for a valuable insurance goal in the second minute of stoppage time by poking the ball away and providing a burst of speed and a sliding tackle to win a 50/50 ball that caromed to Jack Blake.  Blake took one touch and played a perfect diagonal ball to Bruno Rendon on the right side.  Rendon took a touch and played it in between keeper Luis Zamudio’s legs for his team-high ninth goal in all competitions and seventh in league play.  It was Blake’s third assist in all comps and second in league play, improving his career total to 27 assists in USL-C play. Boys in Blue goalkeeper Eric Dick made four saves to record his 34th career shutout against the highest-scoring team in the league.  Dick moved up to a tie for 13th on the USL-C all-time list in clean sheets. The Indy Eleven defense has recorded four shutouts in the team’s last five matches in all competitions, good for third place in goals conceded with 12 goals allowed in 12 league contests. The Boys in Blue have won four of their last five in USL-C play to improve to 6-3-3. Indy Eleven travels to Miami FC on Wednesday July 15 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

The Indianapolis Indians Beat the Omaha Stormchasers Twice to Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday The Indianapolis Indians won the resumed game and captured the nightcap for a pair of big wins over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Saturday night at Werner Park. José Urquidy and Antwone Kelly teamed up to fire a five-hit shutout in the 6-0 Game 1 win. The Indians utilized two grand slams in Game 2 for a 17-4 thrashing. Before the rain came on Friday night, Dominic Fletcher ripped his eighth home run of the season over the right-field wall to stake Indianapolis to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, in what was his final at-bat with the team. The game was suspended in the top of the fourth inning as Urquidy allowed just one bunt single through three shutout innings. The game resumed on Saturday, as Antwone Kelly (W, 4-5) blanked the Storm Chasers (4-7, 37-48). Kelly finished the last 6.0 innings for the Indians (7-4, 38-48) upon resumption. Mason Black (L, 0-2) allowed the home run to Fletcher. Enmanuel Valdez homered twice in Game 2 including a grand slam that capped an eight-run fourth inning. Valdez also homered in Game 1 for three on the day. Jack Brannigan hit the second salami of the contest in the sixth inning, capping a seven-run stanza. Nick Dombkowski allowed one run across 3.0 innings and Thomas Harrington (W, 1-5) covered another 3.0 behind him. Bailey Falter (L, 2-1) allowed two runs across just 0.2 innings and Ryan Ramsey allowed the next seven in his 3.0 frames.
