All three Monroe County Schools will be on the road tonight for the second week of High School Football in the great State of Indiana. Bloomington South travels to Martinsville, Edgewood is at Beech Grove and Bloomington North is at Bedford North Lawrence with all three games kicking off this evening at 7 PM.
Bloomington South is 1-0 after a 44-6 win over city rival Bloomington North last week at Dennis O. Martin Memorial Field on the Northside. Bloomington South has won three straight in the series and this was the first time since 1980 the two teams had met in the opening week of the season.
The Panthers scored the first 44 points of the game before the Cougars a touchdown with just over two minutes to go in the game and then stopped the two-point conversion. Martinsville is 0-1 and coming off a road loss at Bedford North Lawrence 33-27 and it’s the first time since 1992 the Artesians have lost at Bedford North Lawrence.
Bloomington South leads the series in the last 40 years 37-18. Gabe Johnson is 51-18 in seven seasons in charge id the Panthers and 65-28 in nine seasons overall. Brian Duggar is 45-29 in seven seasons at Martinsville. Bloomington South won the last meeting 38-27 on August 29, 2005, and now the Panthers make the quick trek up Interstate 69 to Siderwicz Field to battle their longtime rivals.
Edgewood is coming off a 29-8 win over Springs Valley on the Red Carpet at the Mustang Corral in Ellettsville as Edgewood has won five straight season openers and their first win over Springs Valley in Program History. Head Coach Scott Fischer is 9-20 in his fourth year at Edgewood and 26-65 in 10 seasons overall
Beech Grove is coming off a 26-14 win over Perry Meridian at the Pit which their home field. Head Coach Rajshawn Mosley is 11-10 in his third season at Beech Grove and 14-16 overall in four seasons as a head coach.
This will be the fourth time in the last 40 years the two teams have met. Beech Grove beat Edgewood 12-0 on September 26, 2025, at Edgewood for the Hornets first win against the Mustangs. Edgewood beat Beech Grove 41-34 on October 12, 2007, at Edgewood and 62-31 on October 17, 2008, at Beech Grove.
Bloomington North will be looking for its first win under new coach Andy Harding after the Cougars fell at home last week 44-6 to Bloomington South as the Panthers spoiled Coach Harding’s home debut at his alma mater. The Cougars started a Freshman Quarterback last week after the two quarterbacks were unavailable due to injury.
Bedford North Lawrence is 1-0 after a 33-27 win over Martinsville at BNL Stadium for the first time at home since 1992. Head Coach Brayden Tidd is 9-4 in his second year with the Stars after leading the Stars to the Class 4A Sectional Championship Game losing at Martinsville 49-35.
Bloomington North leads the series 21-8 in the last 40 years and won 29-20 on August 29, 2025, at Bloomington North. The Cougars have won seven in a row against the Stars and the last time the Stars beat the Cougars was at home on August 24, 2018, 55-34. This will be Coach Harding’s first road game as the Cougars Head Coach.
