Documentary featuring Indiana University Broadcasting Legend Don Fischer premiered last week On August 28 at 6:30 p.m., WTIU premiered Timeless: Don Fischer’s Half-Century Broadcasting IU Sports, a new documentary from Indiana Public Media celebrating the legendary voice of IU football and basketball. Before the statewide television premiere, fans will have an opportunity to see the film in one of the most iconic venues in Indiana University athletics. A free special sneak-peek screening of Timeless took place on Thursday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m. inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. The event gave fans an opportunity to celebrate Don Fischer’s remarkable career in the home of IU Basketball, where so many of the moments featured in the documentary first unfolded. Through archival footage, historic radio calls, interviews, and personal reflections, Timeless traces Fischer’s unlikely path to becoming the longtime Voice of the Hoosiers and explores the lasting connection between a broadcaster and generations of Indiana University fans.
“For many Hoosiers, Don Fischer’s voice is inseparable from the memories that define IU athletics,” said Mark Alesia, producer and writer of Timeless. “This documentary is a celebration of his extraordinary career, but also of the fans and traditions that have made Indiana University athletics so meaningful for generations.” In addition to the television premiere, Indiana Public Media will host a series of free community screenings throughout Indiana during September. Select events may include special guests, conversations and Q&A sessions, IU-themed activities, and additional fan experiences.

ESPN includes seven from Indiana University Football in 2026 top 100 players including two in 2027 NFL Draft first round A panel of five at ESPN collaborated to list the top-100 players in college football for 2026. As a clear sign of the depth of their high-end talent this year, Indiana was tied at seven with Texas Tech for the second-most players on this list after Oregon’s eight. For IU to have more players listed than traditional conference powers like Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan seems notable. But it’s also worth noting — last year’s list did not include Heisman Trophy winner, national champion and No. 1 overall NFL Draft choice Fernando Mendoza. NEW 2027 NFL DRAFT PROJECTION-Just how elite can Indiana’s perimeter receivers Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh be this fall? In his latest 2027 NFL Draft projection, ESPN’s Jordan Reid has Becker and Marsh both going in the first round. After having no first round picks for more than 30 years, Reid sees IU as having a four in two years, including three wide receivers. Reid has Becker going with the No. 10 overall pick next spring.
Here’s what he said about Becker: The 6-foot-4, 207-pound Becker was the player I enjoyed studying the most this offseason. He exploded on the scene last November and was the X factor in Indiana’s run to the national title, averaging 19.9 yards per reception (seventh in the FBS). Becker combines deep speed with elite ball tracking and excellent hand-eye coordination.
And here’s what Reid said about Marsh at No. 32: “This makes two first-round receivers for the Hoosiers, as Marsh is a physical wideout who is a chiseled 6-foot-3, 213 pounds. The Michigan State transfer is powerful on short-to-intermediate patterns and is not afraid to do the dirty work in the offense. He’s competitive in gaining yards after the catch.”
Indiana University Field Hockey Drops Match to Louisville in Overtime Despite neutralizing the score in the fourth quarter and forcing the match to overtime, Indiana Field Hockey was unable to push past the Louisville Cardinals at Trager Stadium on Sunday afternoon, making their record fall 0-2. Fourth year midfielder Javi Baeza and fourth year back/ midfielder Hannah Riddle had early shots on goal in the opening minutes of the match, but were both saved by Louisville goalkeeper Emily Young. Louisville secured a goal off a successful penalty corner shot in the 26th minute, making it a 1-0 contest going into the second half. Fourth year midfielder Inés Garcia Prado had back-to-back chances early in the third to equalize the score but could not convert as Louisville held onto the 1-point advantage.
First year midfielder Berta Saenz de Santa Maria, and second year forward Celia Arroyo Cabezudo had back-to-back shot attempts in the 45th minute but could not get the ball past the Cardinal keeper. IU continued to control the ball in the fourth with eight shots on goal, before Arroyo Cabezudo notched it in and equalized the score 1-1 to add her first goal of the season. It was 1-1 at the end of regulation, pushing the match into overtime. Louisville was able to score in the second overtime period in the 72nd minute off a penalty stroke goal made by Aubreigh Uba.
Indiana totaled 28 shots through the match, with 16 being on goal. Second year forward/midfielder Molly Stutte made four of her five shots on goal. Third year forward Charlotte Glasper also led with five shots. She was followed by Arroyo Cabezudo (4), Fourth year midfielder Inés Garcia Prado (3), Riddle (2), first year midfielder Gabriela Garayo Aranceta (2), Saenz de Santa Maria (2), first year forward Augustina Gamona (2), Baeza (1) and third year midfielder Keke Sluiter (1). Canelli stayed busy in the net with six total saves on the day. Indiana will host New Hampshire in its first home contest of the season on Friday, September 4 at 3 p.m at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington, Ind.
Fall Newcomer Numbers and Additions Unveiled for Indiana University Baseball The Indiana baseball program began individual workouts and the first portion of its fall practice schedule Last Tuesday afternoon as the new school year gets underway. Head coach Jeff Mercer and his program welcomed 24 newcomers to Bloomington to join a talented returning core. The Hoosiers introduced 14 prep players to the roster and 10 transfer athletes. That includes a trio of talented position players from power four programs and three prep prospects ranked inside the top 500 of Perfect Game’s National Rankings. First-year infielder Jayden Parker was named one of Prep Baseball’s Top 150 players to make it to campus in this year’s class. IU’s group of players will play four exhibitions in the fall during the buildup to the holiday break. The lone contest at Bart Kaufman Field is set for Friday, October 16th against Kentucky. IU will also meet West Virginia, Huntington and Notre Dame in a series of scrimmages.

Big Ten Conference Selects Nationwide Arena as the Site of 2027 Big Ten Wrestling Championships The Big Ten Conference announced that Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, will serve as the host site for the 2027 Big Ten Wrestling Championships. The 2027 event marks the first time the championships will be held at a neutral site, providing the nation’s most passionate fans a greater opportunity to witness the premier conference in college wrestling. For the fifth year in a row, the Big Ten Network and B1G+ will offer live linear and streaming coverage of all four sessions at the Big Ten Wrestling Championships. Linear coverage on the Big Ten Network is also available on the FOX Sports App. Additional television and ticket information will be distributed at a later date. The Big Ten has won 19-consecutive national championships, led by Penn State’s 12 titles in 14 years. Six Big Ten schools have claimed NCAA titles, led by Iowa with 24. Penn State won its 13th national championship in 2026. Minnesota follows with three national titles, while Indiana, Michigan State and Ohio State own one banner each. Last season, 12 of the 20 NCAA finalists hailed from the Big Ten. Penn State claimed four titles behind undefeated seasons from Luke Lilledahl (25-0) at 125, Mitchell Mesenbrink (27-0) at 165, Levi Haines (26-0) at 174 and Josh Barr (24-0) at 197, while Minnesota’s Max McEnelly took home the 184-pound crown.
NASCAR announces dates for 2027 Brickyard 400 weekend and Truck Series race at IRP The 2027 NASCAR schedule was formally announced Last Wednesday, and with it the dates for the Brickyard 400 weekend and Craftsman Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The 31st annual Brickyard 400 will be held Sunday, July 25, 2027. It will be preceded by the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Pennzoil 250 on Saturday, July 24. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will make its return to Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park for the TSport 200 on Friday, July 23.
NASCAR says the Brickyard 400 will be broadcast on TNT for the third year in a row while the Pennzoil 250 will once again air live on The CW. The TSport 200 will air on FS1. This will be the sixteenth time the Brickyard 400 has taken place in the month of July. The event had an early August date from its inception in 1994 until 2007, when it was moved to late July. In 2018 and 2019, the event was held in early September as the final race before the NASCAR Playoffs. Corey Heim, who will run the full NASCAR Cup Series schedule in 2027, will enter the Brickyard 400 as the defending winner.
Meanwhile, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will hold its sixth race at IRP since returning from a 10-year hiatus in 2022. The ARCA Menards Series, which has served as a support event for the Truck Series race, has not yet announced its 2027 schedule. “We are thrilled to announce the return of the TSport 200 and the Craftsman Truck Series in 2027. This event is certainly one of the can’t miss events on the calendar, and we look forward to celebrating great racing under the lights next July,” said Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park general manager Rollie Miller.
