All three Monroe County High School Football Teams are on the road for Week 7 as the Bloomington North Cougars make a second straight Road Trip to Indianapolis and the Edgewood Mustangs head Southwest for the second straight week to face the Sullivan Golden Arrows as both games will start at 7 PM. The Bloomington South Panthers will play at 6 PM tomorrow night as they travel to Southern Ohio to face the Ironton Tigers at historic Tanks Memorial Stadium in Ironton, Ohio
Edgewood is 3-3 on the season after a 35-14 loss to the Vincennes Lincoln Alices last week at Inman Field in Vincennes. The Mustangs are 0-3 in road games this year and have been outscored 113-20. Edgewood will have Northview at home next week as the Mustangs have won all three home games by a combined score of 109-27. Edgewood averages 21.5 points on offense and gives up 23.3 on defense.
Sullivan is 3-3 on the season and has suffered back-to-back to losses to South Putnam and Owen Valley by a combined score of 96-30. The Golden Arrows lost at Northview 49-7 in Week 3. Sullivan beat North Knox 41-7 South Vermillion 55-7 and Linton 46-27. The Golden Arrows average 29.8 points on offense and give up 27.7 points on defense.
Head Coach Mike Caton is 26-24 in is fifth year in charge of the Golden Arrows Sullivan leads the series 14-11 the last 40 years and Edgewood has not beaten Sullivan since a 14-6 win on September 19, 2014, in Ellettsville. The last time the Mustangs beat the Golden Arrows on Sportland Field in Sullivan was September 16, 2011, when the Mustangs won 35-28.
Bloomington North will make it second straight trip to Indianapolis as they face the Decatur Central Hawks at Devere Stadium on the Southwest Side of the Capital City. This will be the first meeting the two programs since Bloomington North beat Decatur Central 50-49 in overtime on October 23rd, 2009, at Decatur Central.
The two teams are tied 4-4 in the series the last 40 years. And haven’t met in the regular season since October 7, 2005, when Hawks blew out the Cougars 56-7 at Decatur Central. The last time Bloomington North beat Decatur Central was September 26, 2003, as the Cougars shut out the Hawks 29-0 at Bloomington North.
Andy Harding’s Cougars have dropped two in a row losing to Plainfield at Home 35-14 and Perry Meridian on the road 35-6. The Cougars have been outscored 114-26 in their three losses and in there three wins they have outscored the opponent 124-78. Bloomington North is averaging 25 points on offense and giving up 32 points on defense.
Decatur Central is rolling winning there last five games after losing to Avon 31-6 in the first week of the season. The Hawks have outscored their opponents 205-85 and in the five wins they have won by a combined score of 199-54. Head Coach Kyle Enright is 95-31 in his 11th season in charge of the Hawks and led them to the 2024 Class 5A State Championship.
