The #6 Indiana Hoosiers hit the road for the first time beating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 47-15 Saturday Night at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey. Indiana is 5-0 on the season and 1-1 in the Big Ten and will remain on the road to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers next Saturday at Noon in Lincoln on FOX.
The Hoosiers extend the nations longest winning streak in the FBS to 21 games. Indiana’s win streak is the longest since Washington won 21 in a row from 2022-24. The Hoosiers could not be stopped racking up 593 yards of total offense.
Turbo Richard returned after he was knocked out of the first half against Northwestern with a high ankle sprain and carried the ball 13 times for 204 yards and a touchdown. Lee Bebee Jr. had 18 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown as the two combined for 31 carries for 326 yards and 2 touchdowns while the rest of team combined for 8 carries for 3 yards.
Josh Hoover completed 20 of 27 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns and Grant Wilson threw 1-2 passes for 13 yards. Nick Marsh caught 7 passes for 120 yards and Charlie Becker caught 8 passes for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Indiana led 23-0 at halftime and outscored Rutgers 24-15 in the second half. The Rutgers Quarterback duo of AJ Surace and Dylan Longergan combined for 11-20 passing for 195 yards and a touchdown. Rutgers was held to 59 yards rushing on 35 carries as Clay Theverin scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter and had 12 carries for 47 yards.
K.J. Duff had 4 catches for 78 Yards and Ben Black III had 1 catch for 53 yards and a touchdown. Indiana’s defense had 4 sacks and Rutgers had one sack. The Scarlet Knights are 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in the Big Ten.
Indiana leads the all time series 6-5 and snaps a three game losing streak to Rutgers and this is the first time Curt Cignetti has faced Rutgers and the other two teams he has not faced in Minnesota and USC come to Bloomington later in the season. Cignetti is 32-2 at IU and 19-1 in the Big Ten. He is 151-37 overall and after a 6 point win over Northwestern. The Hoosiers went on the Road and won by 32 and now they remain on the road next week against Nebraska.
