Indiana Men’s Basketball Beats St John’s 76-74
Indiana Men’s Basketball remains unbeaten at 3-0 after a 76-74 win over St John’s in the Gavitt Tip Off Games at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall late Wednesday Night. The Hoosiers had 4 players in double figures led by Trayce Jackson-Davis scoring 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and he became the 54th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. Race Thompson had 15 points, Miller Kopp added 12 points and Tamar Bates scored 11 off the bench. Indiana led 39-27 at halftime and St John’s outscored the Hoosiers 47-37 in the 2nd half. Xavier Johnson missed his first throw and made the second in the closing seconds to put the Hoosiers up two. St John’s had last second shot fall short as the Hoosiers defense put pressure on the Red Storm to contest the shot.

Julian Champagine who came in averaging 20 points a game led St John’s with 32 points and 7 rebounds. Champagine was 12-22 from the field, 6-12 from three-point range and 2-2 from the line. Stef Smith added 12 points and Posh Alexander scored 10 points. St John’s led at the start the game 3-0 but then never took the lead again as there with 3 times that the game was tied and two of those times came in final minutes when the Red Storm hit a pair of threes to tie it up. The Red Storm had 17 assists, 7 steals, 5 blocks and 15 turnovers. St John’s is 2-1 on the season and will host Farleigh Dickinson at 6pm on Saturday.

Indiana had 12 assists, 9 steals, 5 blocks and 16 turnovers. In the first half St. John’s was hit by a flagrant 2 foul that sent Trey Galloway to the floor and an eventual meeting with team trainer Tim Garl and team doctor Larry Rink and his family confirmed after the game that Galloway suffered a broken wrist that will require surgery and will be out for at least six weeks. Galloway had a rebound and a steal in 4 minutes of action. Indiana Head Coach Mike Woodson was happy with his team’s ability to close the game despite giving away a 14-point lead. “We didn’t crack, we made winning plays down the stretch.”.  This was the second time in three games that the Hoosiers have blown a double-digit lead. “I’ve got to do a better job when we get big leads,” Woodson Said.

Indiana will host Louisiana on Sunday Night at 7:30 pm with the game on the Big Ten Network.  Louisiana is 3-0 with wins over West Florida 81-47, Southern Mississippi 66-45 on the road and Xavier (Louisiana) 84-72. The Ragin Cajuns have four players in double figures led by Jordan Brown at 14.3 points a game. Louisiana is in the Sun Belt Conference and this will be the first meeting between the two teams. Bob Marlin is the head coach at Louisiana in his 12th season with a record of 205-152, He has coached for 27 seasons with a 553-318 record. Marlin Coached at Sam Houston State and Pensacola Junior College in Florida before arriving in Lafayette Louisiana.    

4th Ranked Indiana Women’s Basketball Travels to Quinnipiac
4th Ranked Indiana Women’s Basketball will hit the road for the second time this season traveling to Hamden Connecticut to face the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 4 pm tomorrow afternoon. The Hoosiers are 3-0 and have the highest ranking in school history. The Hoosiers gave Head Coach Teri Moren her 350th Career win with a 72-42 win over Norfolk State Tuesday Night.

The Hoosiers have all five starters averaging double figures to start the season. Mackenzie Holmes is averaging 20.7 points per game and will return to the New England region to play in front of friends and family as Holmes is a native of Gorham, Maine. Grace Berger is averaging 14.3 points per game, Nicole Cardano Hillary is at 14.0 points and she went over 2,000 career points at Butler. Cardano-Hillary left George Mason as the schools all time leading scorer and is in her second season with the Hoosiers. Ali Patberg averages 13.7 and Aleska Gulbe is averaging 12.7 points per game.

Quinnipiac is 2-1 on the season after a 75-56 at Army Thursday Night. Mackenzie Dewees led the way with 18 points, Mikala Morris added 17 and Amani Free added 11 points off the bench.   Tricia Fabbri is in her 27th season at the school with a 463-312 record. She has led the Bobcats to five NCAA Tournament Appearances including the 2017 Sweet 16. There are no Indiana Players on the roster the Bobcats have three players from the Midwest. Freshman Grace LeBarge is from Inverness Illinois, Freshman Jackie Girsdale is from Poland Ohio and Junior Mikala Morris is from Springfield, Ohio. Quinnipiac is in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and this the first ever meeting between these two teams. 

Indiana Football Hosts Minnesota in Home Final
Indiana will look to close out the final home game of 2021 with a win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Senior Day at 3:30 in Memorial Stadium tomorrow afternoon with the game on the Big Ten Network. The Hoosiers are 2-8 0-7 in the Big Ten while Minnesota comes in 6-4 and 4-3 in the Big Ten.

Indiana is coming off an embarrassing 38-3 loss at home to Rutgers last week while the Golden Gophers come to Bloomington after a 27-22 lost at Iowa. Minnesota leads the series all time 39-26-3 and the teams are meeting for the first time since October 26th, 2018 when Minnesota beat Indiana 38-31 in Minneapolis. This is the first time that Minnesota has played in Bloomington since November 2, 2013.

Minnesota is coached by P.J. Fleck is 32-23 in his 5th season in Minneapolis. Fleck coached at Western Michigan from 2013-2016 and is 62-45 overall. This will be a homecoming for assistant head coach/running backs Kenni Burns who played at Indiana as a running back from 2003-06. Tanner Morgan leads the Gophers offense with 1,540 yards passing 7 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Morgan has been sacked 17 times this season.

Indiana Coached by Tom Allen 26-30 in his 5th year. The Hoosiers have had a ton of injuries on both sides of the ball. Donaven McCulley has started the last three games at quarterback with Jack Tuttle returning last week only to be knocked out of the game in the second quarter after throwing 2 interceptions and getting injured. Michael Pennix Jr has not played since October 2nd at Penn State when he left the game with a shoulder injury. Tight End Peyton Hendershot is one touchdown away from tying Ted Bosler’s record of most touchdowns by Tight End in IU School History with 15. Hendershot passed Bosler in Most Receptions and Yards by a tight end in school history earlier this season. 

Indiana Men’s Soccer Host Bowling Green in 2nd Round NCAA Tournament Game Sunday
Indiana Men’s Soccer will host Bowling Green in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday 12:00 noon on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.  The Hoosiers are the number 15 national seed overall.

Bowling Green beat Louisville 1-0 in Louisville Thursday Night to advance to Sunday’s game against the Hoosiers. Bowling Green scored in the 30th minute on a goal by Kale Nichols to improve to 11-5-3 on the season while Louisville ends the season at 10-7-1. This will be the first meeting between these two teams since November 30th 1997 when Indiana won 4-0 in Bloomington. The Hoosiers lead the all time series 15-3-1 dating back to 1981.

Indiana is the only program to earn a national seed in each of the last eight seasons. IU’s 2021 tournament berth marks its NCAA-record 35th consecutive appearance and 46th overall in program history. Since the NCAA began its current seeding format in 2003, the Hoosiers have earned a top-16 seed in 17 of the 19 tournaments. IU has appeared in 20 College Cups, which leads all Division I teams, and won its eighth national title in 2012.
 
Indiana enters the NCAA Tournament with a 14-5-1 record. The Hoosiers finished No. 3 in the Big Ten with a 5-3-0 record and as the runners-up in the conference tournament. Late in the season, IU shut out seven straight opponents, the second-longest single-season streak in program history. Altogether, the Hoosiers have recorded 12 clean sheets.
