Bloomington’s new Hospital is open
The new IU Health Bloomington is now open. For emergency care call 911 or go immediately to the new hospital emergency room at 2651 E. Discovery Parkway. The full patient move was completed in one day.

Michigan will represent Big 10 in the NCAA BCS Playoff Series
The University of Michigan has been selected to participate in the College Football Playoff semifinals and will play in the Capital One Orange Bowl. The Wolverines were ranked #2 by the College Football Playoff selection committee and will face #3 Georgia on December. 31st at 3:30 or 7:30pm at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL. Michigan becomes the third Big Ten team to advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals, joining Michigan State and Ohio State. Michigan defeated Iowa, 42-3, in the 2021 Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday, to improve to 12-1 overall on the season and capture its conference-leading 43rd Big Ten title.
The College Football Playoff committee also announced that No. 1 Alabama would face No. 4 Cincinnati in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl to be played on Dec. 31 at 3:30 or 7:30 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The winners of the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl will meet in the College Football Playoff National Championship to be played at 8pm on January 10, 2022, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
City of Bloomington’s requests feedback on new website
The City of Bloomington Information and Technology Services department applications team invites members of the public to review and evaluate a series of updates to the City website. During the public testing period December 6 – 10th, users may explore the alpha-version of the updated City website and provide feedback. During the public testing period, staff will use feedback to inform the iterative development of the alpha website. Updates will be made to the main site during the week of December 13th, depending on time required to address public feedback.

The changes to the City’s award-winning website include homepage user interface updates, search improvements, events/calendars changes, and a few other minor but impactful updates. The updates reflect an ongoing commitment to the City’s goals of transparency, accountability, and accessibility in municipal operations and services.
This Week in Hoosier History

1859 – The Indiana General Assembly passed legislation which created Newton County in the northwestern area of the state. Named for John Newton, a Revolutionary War soldier, it was the last county established in the Hoosier State, making it the 92nd county. The city of Kentland was designated to serve as the county seat of government.
