Former Indiana Men’s Soccer Player Pat Noonan Named FC Cincinnati Head Coach
Former Indiana men’s soccer All-American Pat Noonan is the newest Hoosier to join the Major League Soccer head coaching ranks as he was named the boss at FC Cincinnati, the club announced on Tuesday. Noonan (1999-2002) joins Columbus Crew head man Caleb Porter (1994-97) as the second former Hoosier currently serving as a head coach in MLS. Noonan was a three-time All-American and two-time MAC Hermann Trophy runner-up during his time in cream and crimson and helped Indiana to three NCAA College Cup appearances, two national title matches and an NCAA National Championship as a freshman in 1999. A four-year star in Bloomington, Noonan ranks top-15 in the Indiana record book in goals (No. 7; 48), assists (No. 12; 32) and points (No. 6; 127).
Noonan joins FC Cincinnati after nine years of domestic coaching experience, mostly recently as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union for the last four seasons. Prior to that, Noonan was an assistant for the United States men’s national team in 2017 and the LA Galaxy from 2013-16. Following his time at IU, Noonan had a decorated professional career that lasted 10 seasons from 2003-12 between three clubs: New England Revolution, Columbus Crew and Seattle Sounders. Indiana Football Lands Two More Commitments For 2022
Indiana Football has added Tight End Brody Foley and Wide Receiver Cameron Camper to its 2022 recruiting class.
Foley had been committed to Tennessee since May. The Anderson (OH) High School tight end is ranked as the No. 31 tight end in the Rivals250 class of 2022 rankings. He is ranked 31st in the state of Ohio. Foley originally had offers from Auburn, Louisville, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Minnesota, Cincinnati, West Virginia, and Purdue.
Foley is a 6-foot-6 and 230-pound athletic tight end. He has solid ball skills and has a really good ability to catch the ball in traffic. With his solid frame, he is a mismatch on the outside and has decent speed for his size. He also is a good blocker at the position. Foley joins fellow Ohio tight end Ryan Miller as the two players at the position in the 2022 recruiting class.
Indiana was looking for some extra additions to the tight end room after losing Peyton Hendershot to the NFL Draft. Hendershot ended his career as the all-time program leader amongst tight ends with 136 receptions and 1,479 yards. He ranks second with 14 touchdowns
Camper is a 6-foot-2 wide out was originally committed to New Mexico before he visited Indiana. Camper played two seasons at Trinity Valley (Tx.) Community College and totaled 50 catches for 858 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games. He caught 28 passes for 505 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season. He was named to the Southwest Junior College Football Conference All-Conference First-Team this season.
In his 10 career games at Trinity Valley, Camper had four 100+ yard games. For his career, he averaged 17.2 yards per reception.
Camper will step into a wide receiver room that was hit hard by the transfer portal and graduation for the Hoosiers. IU will lose its top three pass catchers from this season and seven all together. With Camper, Indiana now has three incoming wide receivers with transfer wide receiver Emery Simmons and incoming freshman Omar Cooper Jr. Camper has three years of eligibility remaining.
Today begins the National Signing Day period for College Football that will go through Friday.
Center Grove Defensive Lineman Caden Curry Commits to Ohio State
The Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day stayed the course and were rewarded with the commitment of Rivals100 defensive lineman Caden Curry from Center Grove HS in Greenwood Indiana. After a long, drawn-out recruitment. One of the top prospects in the Midwest, and among the best defensive line prospects in the nation, Curry will look to continue the long stretch of dominant defensive line play in Columbus.
Curry picked the Buckeyes over Indiana, Oregon, Alabama and Clemson. In his senior season at Center Grove, Curry recorded 65 tackles, including 24 tackles for loss and seven sacks. In four years on varsity, the four-star defensive end recorded 83.5 tackles-for-loss and 28 sacks, along with 11 pass deflections, seven in his senior year, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Indiana was on Curry’s shortlist too, with three hats on the table: the Hoosiers, the Buckeyes and Alabama. However, late in the recruiting process, the choice had come down to either the in-state Hoosiers or Ohio State, with the four-star defensive end declining a home visit from Alabama head coach Nick Saban a week before his decision.
Curry is the highest-ranked player from Indiana to choose Ohio State since four-star Austin Mack in 2015.
