Lawrence North WR and Indiana Football Verbal Commit Omar Cooper Jr Will Sign in February
Lawrence North HS Wide Receiver Omar Cooper Jr announced Wednesday that he will not sign during this December National Signing Period and will sign in February during the traditional signing day period. Cooper committed to Indiana July 7, 2021 and was the only commit not to sign for the Hoosiers in this signing period. Cooper chose the Hoosiers over Arkansas, Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Purdue, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Norte Dame. This means that these schools are still in play for Cooper, and he could decide to de commit and commit and sign to another team. This is nothing new in college football. Players decide to commit and change their mind before they decide to stay with that school or go somewhere else.
Indiana University nor any other school is not allowed to comment on Cooper or his status until he signs a national letter of intent which will be a month and half from now.
Former Indiana Quarterback Michael Penix Jr Transfers to Washington
Former Indiana University Quarterback Michael Penix Jr is transferring to The University of Washington, he announced on Instagram on Tuesday. Penix played four seasons at Indiana before entering the transfer portal December 5th. He was the Hoosiers’ starter for three seasons but struggled to stay on the field, suffering season-ending injuries each year, including ACL injuries in 2018 and 2020. This season, Penix played five games before he separated an AC joint in his throwing shoulder. He finished the season with 939 yards passing, 4 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
The connection between new Washington coach Kalen DeBoer and Penix goes back to 2019, when DeBoer served as Indiana’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Penix played in six games that season but posted the highest quarterback rating (157.6) of his college career. Freshman Dylan Morris was the Huskies’ starting quarterback this season, throwing for 2,458 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 11 games. Washington went 4-8 this season before firing Jimmy Lake and hiring DeBoer away from Fresno State.
