6th Ranked Indiana Women’s Basketball Travels to Wisconsin
The 6th Ranked Indiana Women’s Basketball team is back in action tonight when they take on the Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center in Madison at 7:30 PM. Indiana is coming off a 70-63 overtime win against Maryland Sunday Afternoon at home. It’s the first time in 12 all time meetings that Indiana has beaten Maryland in Women’s Basketball. Indiana is 11-2 and 3-0 in the Big 10 and will look to match the 2019-20 team with a 4-0 conference record to start this Big Ten season.

The Hoosiers starting five all averages double figures with Mackenize Holmes leading the way at 18.1 Points. Grace Berger 14.3, Ali Patberg 12.2, Nicole Cardano-Hillary 10.7, and Aleska Gulbe at 10.2 Points. The Starting five played 218 of 225 minutes in Sunday’s game against Maryland and scored 68 of the 70 points. Kiandra Browne scored the only 2 points off the bench and averages 3.3 points per game. Chloe Moore-McNeil, Kaitlin Peterson, and Keyarah Berry were all out of action Sunday leaving the Hoosiers with just nine scholarship players available.

Indiana brings the nation’s second-longest active road win streaks in tonight’s game at Wisconsin. The Hoosiers have won 10 straight on the road, which leads all Power 5 schools. Only Florida Gulf Coast (22) holds a longer streak than IU. The last time Indiana lost a road game was at Maryland on January 4, 2020 (84-80). Other active win streaks for IU include a current six-game win streak and have won their last 12 Big Ten games dating back to last season. Teri Moren is 159-82 in her 8th season at IU and she is 358-212 in 19 seasons overall.

Wisconsin, 3-9 and 0-2 in the Big Ten, will return from a 20-day COVID-19 pause after playing its last non-con game against Illinois State on December 16th. Sophomore guard Sydney Hillard leads the way with 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Badgers, who started out Big Ten play with losses to Northwestern and Michigan. Junior guard Julie Pospisilova adds 14.4 points per game to an offense that scores 60.6 points per game this season. Marisa Moseley is in her first season as Wisconsin Head Coach, is 48-34 in 4 seasons overall. Moseley came to Wisconsin in the off season after being the head coach Boston University the last three seasons. 

Indiana leads the all-time series 51-24 and has won seven-in-a-row against the Badgers including a pair of wins in 2020-21. It has won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two schools

Edgewood Hosts Northview in Girls Basketball Action
Edgewood hosts Northview at 7:30 PM in Girls Basketball Action at the Mustang Corral in Ellettsville. The Mustangs are 14-3 on the season and coming off a 3-1 record in the Toby Yoho Classic at Eastern Greene last week. Edgewood is averaging 46.2 points and giving up 32.5 on defense. Edgewood has allowed one team score over 50 points all the season and that was South Knox scoring 51 on December 28th.  Carly Sherfield leads the Mustangs in scoring at 12.9 points per game followed by Trista Helms at 9.6 points per game.

Northview is 13-2 on the season as the Knights won the State Farm Holiday Classic title last week at home winning all three games and come to Ellettsville on a 4-game winning streak. Northview lost at Mooresville 56-36 to open the season on November 2nd and at Terre Haute North 48-33 on December 14th. The Knights average 52.1 points per game and give up 38 points on defense.

Bloomington South beat Brown County 56-31 Tuesday Night as the Panthers end a 9-game losing streak and improve to 2-14 on the season. The Panthers led 21-16 at halftime and pulled away with 15-6 run in the 3rd quarter. Abbie Lucas scored 14 points to lead the Panthers, Mya Lawrence scored 13, Caitlin Hiem and Carlie Pedersen added 8 points apiece. Bloomington South will travel to Columbus North Saturday Afternoon at 2:30pm. Brown County falls to 3-12 on the season and will host Edgewood at 6pm this Friday.

Eastern Greene beat Bloomington North 53-52 in overtime at Eastern Greene Tuesday Night. The Class 2A Thunderbirds improve 14-3 and knock off a 4A school for the first time this season. Bloomington North falls to 7-9 and have lost 4 straight games. Bloomington North Travels to Terre Haute South this Saturday at 1:30pm.

Indiana Wrestling Competes at Ohio University in No-Contest Dual
Indiana Wrestling competed in a no-contest dual at Ohio Tuesday night with only individual scores marked and no team scores recorded. Due to COVID-19 protocol, only six weight classes, and two extra matches at 125 and 184 lbs., participated in individual bouts. The 157, 174, 197, and 285 weight classes did not participate. This was the first time the two programs have meet since 1926. 

Graduate student Brock Hudkins set the tone early in the battle of 133 lbs., beating Giovanni DiSabato comfortably in a 6-2 decision and improved to 5-0 on the season.  Redshirt Sophomore Donell Washington cruised against Ohio’s Zayne Lehman, earning a major decision victory for the first time this season, 16-6 to improve to 10-0 on the season.  In an extra match, Freshman Noah Gochberg didn’t allow a point and fought a tight battle to finish off a 2-0 win by decision. Indiana will open the Big Ten Season this Friday at Rutgers at 7pm

Kent State Defeats Ball State Men’s Basketball
Kent State scored in the final seconds to beat Ball State 66-65 at Worthen Arena in Muncie Tuesday Night.  Justyn Hamilton scored on a layup with 10 seconds left to give the Golden Flashes the lead. Miryne Thomas missed a three with two seconds left and Kent State got the rebound to close out the game.

Kent State is 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference.  Sincere Carry led the way with 26 points, Justyn Hamilton and Malique Jacobs scored 11 points apiece. Ball State falls to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference. Tyler Cochran led the way with 23 points, Damarius Jacobs added 16 and Payton Sparks added 12 points for the Cardinals. Ball State returns to action Saturday at Eastern Michigan at 3:30pm
