Marion man kills 2 using a large sword
37 year-old Jonathon Lewis Dischner has been arrested by Marion Police for allegedly attacking three people with a long sword, and killing two of them. Marion Police Officers responded to 9-unit house on Sunday evening after reports of a neighbor screaming for police assistance. 34 year-old Michael Sandlin, and 63 year-old Dennis Johnson, both residents of the house were pronounced dead at the scene, suffering from stab wounds. A third man also was injured in the attack with a severe laceration.

Dischner was arrested at the scene, without incident, and booked into the Grant County Jail on preliminary charges of two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Police are still unsure of the motive for the attack. Anyone with information to call the Marion Police Criminal Investigation Division at (765) 668-4417.

IUWBB electrifies on offense in road victory at Illinois

#7 Indiana University Women’s Basketball (17-3, 9-1) beat Illinois (6-13, 1-7) 93-61 on Wednesday evening. From the outset, the game was all IU, as the Hoosiers converted their first 6 possessions of the game, taking an early lead, which they would never relinquish. Ali Patberg scored 21 of her game high 26 points in the first half. Aleska Gulbe scored 18, Grace Berger added 13, and Katlin Peterson scored a career best 11 points off the bench. including 3 from beyond the arc. Chloe Moore-McNeil scored 9 points and spent the last 6 minutes of the game running the Indiana offense, as all 5 starters took an early exit considering the 30+ point lead. Nicole Cardano-Hillary took a hard fall in the 3rd quarter after launching a 3-point shot and colliding with her Illinois defender; after the game, IU Head Coach Teri Moren was confident in a quick recovery. The Hoosiers have won 13 in a row against the Fighting Illini, keeping the longest active streak going for most consecutive wins against a conference opponent. Next up, the Hoosiers will host Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at 3pm for the annual Head to the Hall game where all tickets will cost, just $1.

1861 – On February 12th, Abraham Lincoln woke up on his 52nd birthday at the Bates House Hotel in Indianapolis. He had breakfast with Governor Oliver P. Morton. Lincoln’s wife, Mary, and son, Robert, joined him on the train as he continued his trip to Washington, DC to take the oath as the nation’s 16th President.
