Indiana Men’s Basketball looking to get back to winning, hosting Maryland
Indiana Men’s Basketball is looking to snap a 5-game losing streak when they host Maryland at 7 pm this evening inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Indiana is 16-10 overall and 7-9 in the Big Ten and needs this win to keep NCAA Tournament hopes alive. The Hoosiers lost at Ohio State Monday Night 80-69 in overtime.  Xavier Johnson went 10-for-10 from the free throw line at Ohio State. He is the first Hoosier to accomplish that feat since Al Durham made all of his 10 charity tosses in the 2018 Big Ten Tournament. Race Thompson has averaged 14.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in the last seven games and is shooting 46.7% from long distance in that time. He is ranked eighth in the Big Ten in rebounding (7.9). Thompson had his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds at Michigan State. Recently, he had a season-high 18 points against Penn State and Maryland, while added his fourth double-double of the season when he grabbed 12 boards against the Terrapins. He is second on the team averaging 11.8 points and shooting 54.4% from the field with 21 blocked shots. He leads the team with 29 steals.

Trayce Jackson-Davis is averaging 17.9 points (6th in B1G), 8.4 rebounds (53rd), shooting 57% from the floor (3rd), and contributing 2.5 blocked shots (1st). He set a Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall record by scoring 43 points against Marshall, breaking the previous mark (42) set by Steve Alford against Michigan State. He has had nine double-doubles this season and 31 in his career with IU posting a 23-8 record in those games. He notched four straight double-doubles for the first time in his career after he had 23 points and 12 boards at Nebraska. Jackson-Davis now has scored 1,413 points as a Hoosier, rating 21st all-time in IU lore. Despite being limited to 11 minutes due to foul trouble against No. 4/4 Purdue, he defended a game-winning shot attempt and made two free throws with 5.1 seconds left to extend the IU lead. He had 17 points and nine boards at Maryland earlier this season.

Maryland interim coach Danny Manning is in his first year in College Park.  Manning and Indiana Head Coach Mike Woodson combined to score 5,012 points in college Manning, 2951, first all-time at Kansas and Woodson 2,061 Points at IU. Both averaged 14.0 points in their NBA careers, while Manning averaged 20.1 ppg at Kansas and Woodson scored 19.8 points per game at IU. Manning led Kansas to the 1988 National Championship. Maryland has won two in as row after winning at home against Penn State, 67-61. IU won the first meeting this season at Maryland, 68-55.

Edgewood and Bloomington South Boys Basketball play in regular season finale
The regular season will conclude this evening for Edgewood and Bloomington South Boys Basketball as the get ready to play their regular season finales this evening. Edgewood travels to Eastern Greene while Bloomington South travels to Northview, with both games starting at 7:30pm.

Edgewood is 10-13 on the season as the Mustangs are averaging 56.9 points per game and giving up 58.4 points on defense. Eastern Greene is 6-15 and have lost 3 in a row. The Thunderbirds are averaging 42.0 points per game and giving up 54.7 on defense.

Bloomington South is 16-7 on the season. The Panthers average 48.9 points per game on offense and give up 40.7 on defense. Bloomington South Head Coach J.R. Holmes is looking for win number 735 40 seasons at Bloomington South and 878 wins overall in 52 years as head coach. Holmes is the all-time winningest coach in the Indiana High School Boys Basketball history. Northview is 14-8 overall and coming off a game at county rival Clay City Wednesday Night. 

Bloomington North and South well represented in Boys Swimming State Finals
The Bloomington Schools will have 6 Individuals and 4 Relay teams competing in 10 events tomorrow at the IHSAA Boys Swimming State Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium on the IUPUI Campus. Competition will get underway at 6 pm with the swimming preliminaries. The top 16 will advance in each event with the top 8 going for the state title. Diving will start at 9 am Saturday with the preliminaries and the semifinals. The top 20 of 32 advance to the semifinals after 5 dives each, after 3 dives in the semis the top 16 will advance to the final round. The championship and consolation Finals will begin at 1 pm along with the diving finals.   

Bloomington South Senior Judah Thompson is seeded 14th in the 200-yard freestyle and 20th in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman David Kovacs is seeded 15th in the 200-yard Individual Medley and 18th in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Lukas Pagele is seeded 9th in the 100-yard butterfly and 22nd in the 50-yard freestyle. The Panthers are seeded 11th in the 200-yard medley relay, 12th in the 400-yard freestyle relay, and 18th in the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

Bloomington North Freshman Jay Stewart is seeded 9th in the 100-yard backstroke and 17th in the 100-yard butterfly. Senior Blake Hatcher is seeded 25th in the 200-yard freestyle and Junior Max Miller will compete in the 1-meter diving event.  The Cougars are seeded 22nd in the 200-yard medley relay

Monroe County Schools compete in Girls Gymnastics Sectional at Columbus East
Bloomington North, Bloomington South and Edgewood will all compete at the Girls Gymnastics Sectional this Saturday afternoon at 1 pm at Columbus East High School. Columbus East, Columbus North, Indianapolis Lutheran, Indianapolis Scecina, Martinsville, Owen Valley, Roncalli and Seymour are 12 teams competing for the top 3 spots to advance to Regionals as a complete team.  The top six individuals in each event plus the all-around will advance. All gymnasts who receive the score of the sixth-place gymnast at the previous state finals meet advance to the regionals. Those scores are Vault-9.750, Bars- 9.525, Floor Exercise- 9.40, All Around 9.425 and 37.875 Total Score will advance to the Regional that will be held on March 4 hosted by Franklin Central at the Gymnastics Company at 5pm,
