Indiana Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach Dane Fife will not return next season. Fife spent just one season on staff at Indiana after joining Mike Woodson in a return to Indiana. He spent the previous 10 years at Michigan State. Fife helped lead Indiana to the 2002 National Title game and a share of the Big Ten Championship as a senior. He was also named co-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. In 131 career games, he averaged 5.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He also shot 37.9 percent from three for his career and 47.1 percent as a senior on 140 attempts.
“I love IU with every part of my soul and am grateful to those that gave me this opportunity,” Fife said on Twitter. “Most importantly, I’m honored to have worked with the players on our team. They dug deep, never gave in and will forever be remembered for their accomplishments.
“I became an Indiana Hoosier 25 years ago. I’m a Hoosier today… And I’ll be a Hoosier tomorrow. Go IU.” Fife Said.
Indiana finished the 2021-22 season 21-14 (9-11), made its first NCAA Tournament since 2016 beating Wyoming in First Four Game in Dayton Ohio, losing to Saint Mary’s in The First Round in Portland, Oregon Last Thursday Night.
Indiana University Men’s Basketball Guard Khristian Lander enters transfer portal
For the second straight offseason, Indiana guard Khristian Lander has entered his name to the NCAA transfer portal. Lander, a former top 30 recruit from Evansville, appeared in 39 career games for the Hoosiers and averaged 2.4 points and 1.1 assists in 9.7 minutes per game. The 6-foot-2 guard appeared in just 13 games this season for the Hoosiers as he was behind Xavier Johnson and Rob Phinisee on the depth chart. Lander also battled a leg injury for a significant portion of the season.
The Evansville Reitz product will be eligible to play immediately at his next school with the NCAA now allowing a one-time transfer without sitting out for underclassmen. Originally a member of the class of 2021, Lander reclassified into the 2020 class and enrolled a year early under former coach Archie Miller. He turned 19 last August and was the third-youngest player on Indiana’s roster last season.
By entering his name in the portal, Lander will be able to have direct contact with other schools and explore his options for a transfer. Last offseason, Lander put his name in the transfer portal on March 26th but announced his return to Bloomington for a second season on April 5th.
Record 70 Indiana Hoosier Athletes earn Winter All-Big Ten Honors
70 IU students who participate in intercollegiate athletics across five winter sports earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday.
“Congratulations to our winter sports students for their success in the classroom and for establishing a new IU record for Academic All-Big Ten honors,” said IU Vice President and Director Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson in Press Relase “Our success in the classroom is a critical component of our not only our department’s mission, but also the success of our students after their time as IU student-athletes has concluded. Congratulations to our students, their families, and our Academic Services staff led by Lorian Price for a job extremely well done.”
The 70 Academic All-Big Ten honorees are a record for the most for this term. The Big Ten also recognizes student-athlete for this honor in the fall and spring.
