Indiana Football’s Micah McFadden selected by New York Giants in NFL Draft
Indiana Football linebacker Micah McFadden was selected by the New York Giants in the fifth round (146th pick overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon. McFadden is the first Hoosier taken by the Giants since offensive tackle James Brewer in 2011 and the 11th overall selected by New York. The Hoosiers have had 13 players drafted since 2014 and at least one selected in each of the last nine years, the program’s longest streak since 1983-98. McFadden finished his IU career with 216 tackles, 149 solo, 14 sacks (94 yards), 37 for loss (169 yards), four interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and four pass breakups. The 2020 All-American’s 37 TFLs share sixth in program history. 

Tight End Peyton Hendershot, Wide Reciever Ty Fryfogele, Saftey Raheem Layne and Offensive Tackle Caleb Jones all signed undrafted free agent contracts Saturday evening after the conclusion of the NFL Draft. Hendershot Signed with the Dallas Cowboys and finished his career as the Hoosiers tight ends receptions (136) and yardage (1,479) leader. The three-time All-Big Ten selection finished second with 14 touchdowns. Layne Signed with the Los Angeles Chargers and played in 50 career games with 38 (13 starts) at cornerback and 12 (12 starts) at safety. He totaled 147 tackles, 114 solo, 3.5 for loss, one interception, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Fryfogele signed with Dallas Cowboys and finished his career sixth on Indiana’s career lists in receptions (158) and yardage (2,231), and tied for 10th in receiving touchdowns (10) in 53 games (33 starts). He was third-team All-American and Big Ten Receiver of the Year in 2020. Jones signed with the Green Bay Packers and started the final 30 games of his career and appeared in 41 overall with IU. He made 24 starts at right tackle and six at left tackle.

Indiana Football adds Tennessee transfer Andison Coby
Indiana made a spring transfer portal add on Sunday when former Tennessee wideout Andison Coby announced his commitment. He appeared in five games for Tennessee and had one reception for five yards in 2021.  Coby had previously announced he was transferring to Western Michigan.  He has three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-2 Coby was a three-star junior college wide receiver who enrolled at Tennessee in January 2021 and then participated in spring practice with the Vols.  He played the 2020 season at Northeast Mississippi Junior College and finished with 24 catches for 422 yards and seven touchdowns. Coby prepped at Coral Springs High School before finishing his high school career at American Heritage High School in South Florida.  He was a three-star high school prospect according to the recruiting services.

Indiana University Women’s Soccer announces 2022 Fall Schedule
IU head coach Erwin van Bennekom has announced the Indiana women’s soccer 2022 fall schedule. The Hoosiers will host 10 matches at Bill Armstrong Stadium and play three non-conference road matches. Indiana will host preseason matches against Miami University (Ohio) and Northwestern. The Hoosiers start the regular season with a road trip to take on West Virginia on Aug. 18 and Virginia Tech on August 21st.
 
The Hoosiers home opener will be against Ball State on Thursday, August 25th at 8pm On Sunday, September 4th Indiana will host the Notre Dame for a match with a 6pm start. The Big Ten slate of 10 matches will begin on Sunday Sept. 18 with a home match against Penn State. Indiana will host a rivalry match against Purdue at home on Sunday, October 16th with a 1pm start in Bloomington.

Indiana Fever beat Chicago Sky in WNBA preseason opener
The Indiana Fever erased a 10-point fourth quarter deficit, outscored the Chicago Sky 20-9 in the final quarter and held on for a 79-75 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to open up its 2022 preseason schedule. Rookie Queen Egbo led all players with a game-high 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds off the bench to help Indiana knock off the 2021 WNBA champions. Destanni Henderson added 11 points, shooting 4-of-4 from the court and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. Rookie forward NaLyssa Smith finished with 10 points and nine rebounds in her first career starting nod.

Emily Engstler and Erin Whalen also came off the bench for the Fever to add nine and eight points each. In all, Fever rookies accounted for 54 of the team’s 79 points Saturday afternoon. Kelsey Mitchell began her fifth season with the Fever finishing with 12 points and a game-high five assists. Following the Conclusion of Saturday’s Preseason game, the Fever waived Guard Jazmine Jones and forward Jamie Nared.

For Chicago, Emma Meeseman led the Sky with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Gary Indiana Native Dana Evans finished with 12 points and tied a team-high with three assists. The Fever conclude the preseason schedule with a road game at the Dallas Wings today at 2pm.

Indianapolis Indians Coverage  

Indians Sweep Iowa Over the Weekend

The Indianapolis Indians took final three games against the Iowa Cubs to win the six-game series 4-2 at Principal Park in Des Moines. The Indians won Friday 8-1, Saturday 4-3 and Sunday afternoon 3-1. The Indians are 13-10 on the season while the Iowa Cubs fall to 11-12 on the season. The Indians will host the Louisville Bats for a six-game series at Victory Field Indianapolis starting tomorrow night at 6:35pm.
