Indiana University Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Ashley Williams leaving for NC State
Indiana University Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Ashley Williams has been named an assistant coach at her alma mater North Carolina State and will be an assistant coach under the man she played for in Raleigh Wes Moore.   Williams played for Moore and the Wolfpack from 2013-2017. She ranked fourth in program history in 3-point percentage and sixth in total 3-pointers made. She grew up in Cary, North Carolina, around 10 minutes from N.C. State’s campus in Raleigh. She was the lead scout for IU when the Hoosiers beat NC State in 2021 NCAA Sweet 16 and when the Wolfpack beat the Hoosiers in December 2021 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

She came to IU upon graduation from N.C. State in 2017, serving as a graduate assistant for two years while she earned her master’s degree in athletic administration and was a part of the 2018 WNIT Championship Staff. Williams then left for an assistant coach position at Furman in 2019-20. She returned to Bloomington ahead of the 2020-21 season to fill the position Janese Banks-Constantine vacated to leave for Alabama.

Williams was selected among the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 in 2020-21. In her two seasons on Teri Moren’s staff, the Hoosiers made two consecutive Sweet 16 trips and one Elite Eight appearance all program firsts. Indiana also reached the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game this past season.

Indiana Men’s Soccer to open 2022 season at Clemson
Eight-time NCAA Champion Indiana men’s soccer will open its 50th season against reigning and three-time national title winner Clemson in a match set for Friday, August 26, at 7 p.m. on Riggs Field in Clemson, South Carolina, the programs announced Thursday. The teams last met 10 years ago in a 3-0 victory for IU as the Hoosiers would go on to win their most recent national title in that 2012 season. All-time, Indiana is 6-4-1 against the Tigers and undefeated in six straight matches going back to 1994 with five wins in that span. The 2022 contest is set to be the first on Riggs Field since 1998, a 2-1 victory for the Hoosiers.

Both programs are regulars in the NCAA Tournament. Indiana has qualified 46 times including an NCAA record 35 consecutive appearances, while Clemson has made 34 tournament trips. The duo has a combined 30 College Cup berths, with IU boasting 21 of those. IU had won back-to-back titles in 1982 and 1983 when it was defeated by Clemson, 2-1, in the 1984 national championship match, decided by a goal in the final two minutes of play. After a 1987 regional final defeat to the Tigers, the Hoosiers would get revenge in 1998 and 2001 NCAA Tournament quarterfinal matches, both victories eventually leading an appearance in the national championship match. The Indiana men’s soccer program will release its full 2022 schedule on a later date. Season tickets will go on sale June 1, 2022.

Deah McCullough decommits from Indiana University Football program
A second member of the McCullough family has departed the IU football program. Class of 2023 4-star defensive back Daeh McCullough announced on Thursday he has decommitted from Indiana. He is the son of two-time former running backs coach Deland McCullough, who left IU following the 2021 season to take the same job at Notre Dame.

Daeh committed to Indiana last April following his father’s hiring by Tom Allen. His commitment was soon followed by his brothers Dasan, a class of 2022 linebacker, and Deland II, a transfer defensive back from Miami (Ohio). Both Dasan and Deland II are still on the Indiana roster on the IU Athletics website. When the elder Deland left for Notre Dame, there was speculation his sons would follow, but all three announced in February they intended to stay with Indiana. At the time he committed to IU, Daeh was the highest-rated recruit in the history of the program.  Currently he is ranked #177 nationally and the #14 Safety according to the 247Sports Composite.

The decision by Daeh does not come as a complete surprise. In recent weeks he took visits to other programs, and earlier this week news broke he was moving from Bloomington to South Bend. And will attend St Joseph’s High School for his senior season after spending his Junior Season at Bloomington South. Last spring Daeh picked IU over a long list of suitors that included Arizona State, Arkansas, Boston College, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi State, Penn State, Pittsburgh. and Utah.

But now that he has joined his father in South Bend, Notre Dame has to be regarded as the clear favorite. Cincinnati is another program he recently visited. Daeh is the second decommit in Indiana’s 2023 class. Last year Georgia linebacker Denzel Moore also had a change of heart. Indiana currently has just two verbal commits in its 2023 class with in-state tight end Sam West from Greensburg, and Florida offensive lineman William Larkins.
