
Nicole Cardaño-Hillary signs Pro-Basketball contract in home country of Spain
Indiana University Women’s Basketball alum Nicole Cardaño-Hillary will return to her home country as she has signed a professional contract with IDK Euskotren in Donstia-San Sebastian, Spain. Cardaño-Hillary closed out her two-year Indiana career in 2021-22 as she helped the Hoosiers to a pair of 20-win seasons and two NCAA Tournament appearances. She was an All-Big Ten second team, All-Big Ten defensive team and earned Big Ten All-Tournament team honors in her final season. She started in 32 games last year averaging 11.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and a team-high 2.3 steals per game. Her 72 steals in 2021-22 for IU ranks ninth all-time and was second in the Big Ten. Additionally, Cardaño-Hillary notched double figures and had multiple steals in 21 games.
In her career, the Madrid, Spain native scored 2,343 points and hit 232 career 3-pointers. She averaged 72.7% at the free throw line and picked up 319 steals. Through her five-year collegiate career, Cardaño-Hillary averaged 15.6 points and shot 36.5% from the floor. She enjoyed a decorated career at George Mason where she was the program’s all-time leading scorer, 2018-19 A-10 Player of the Year, 2017-18 A-10 Rookie of the Year, and a three-time A-10 selection. Cardano-Hillary moved to Georgetown, Texas when she was 12 years old and played at Vista Ridge HS.
She joins fellow alum Aleksa Gulbe in signing a professional contract this offseason, as Gulbe will play for Perfumerías Avendia in Salamanca, Spain.
Five Indiana University Track & Field Athletes compete in NCAA Championships
Indiana Track & Field concludes the 2022 outdoor season with the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Five Hoosiers will make the trip with the meet that starts this evening and ends on Saturday. Paola Ferandez-Sola will represent the Hoosiers in the long jump after leaping a mark of 6.33m (20′ 10.75″) at NCAA East Prelims. Fernandez-Sola finished in third out of the 48 entered in the event. Maddy Pollard will compete in her final meet in the Cream & Crimson as she competes in the shot put. Pollard put a mark of 16.87m (55′ 4.25″) to the get her to the national meet. Jayden Ulrich looks to compete in two events at nationals, the shot put and the discus. Ulrich picked up a mark of 17.05m (55′ 11.25″) in the shot put and 52.73m (173′ 0″) in the discus. Rounding out the women’s field is Mahogany Jenkins, who after a jump off, will make her debut at NCAAs in the high jump. Jenkins cleared a mark of 1.81m (5′ 11.52″) which matched her personal best. On the men’s side, Sean Mockler punched his ticket Eugene in the hammer after seeing a mark of 67.56m (221′ 8″).

Indiana University Athletics to celebrate Title IX on June 21st
Indiana University Athletics will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX on Tuesday June 21, at the Henke Hall of Champions which is located on the 3rd in the North End Zone of Memorial Stadium. The event will be from 5-6:30 pm with brief remarks at 5:45 pm. Please RSVP by Friday June 17. Title IX was passed on June 23, 1972, which is the federal civil rights law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in any educational institution that receives federal funding and gave women the equal opportunity to play sports.
Indiana Fever waive Center Alania Coates
The Indiana Fever announced Tuesday the team has waived center Alaina Coates. In eight games this season, Coates averaged 3.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game after joining the Fever in the offseason. Coates is 6-4 and graduated from the University Of South Carolina in 2017. Coates played with the Chicago Sky in 2018, the Minnesota Lynx and Atlanta Dream in 2019 and the Washington Mystics in 2020. She has played 82 career games in the WNBA and scored 239 points for a 2.9 point per game average.
The Fever signed forward Emma Cannon on Sunday. The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 6.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 18.4 minutes per contest in 12 games last season with the Fever. Cannon will wear No. 32 with Indiana again, but she did not play in the Fever’s 75-66 loss at Atlanta Sunday Afternoon. The Fever who are 3-10 on the season take on the Connecticut Sun tonight at 7pm at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Indians Beat Columbus 9-6
The Indianapolis Indians batted around the order in the first inning en route to a five-run outburst and never looked back, defeating the Columbus Clippers in the first game of the six-game series on Tuesday night, 9-6 at Victory Field. Game 2 of the six-game series is this afternoon at 1:35 pm.

The Indians made the following roster changes Tuesday: Infielder Rodolfo Castro optioned by the Pittsburgh Pirates and is active in Indianapolis. He is now wearing #3 and Left-Handed Pitcher Aaron Fletcher has been recalled by Pittsburgh.
