CJ Gunn named Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Game MVP
Indiana University Men’s Basketball freshman guard CJ Gunn was named the series MVP after leading the Indiana All-Stars to a pair of dominating wins over the Kentucky All-Stars over the weekend. Indiana claimed game one of the weekend, by a score of 104-77 at the Sportscenter in Owensboro, KY, on Friday night. The Indiana squad prevailed by a score of 101-81 in the series finale at Southport High School in Indianapolis on Saturday.
 
In two games against the Kentucky All-Stars, Gunn averaged a team-best 20.5 points on 14-of-31 shooting (45.2%) from the floor and 9-of-10 (90.0%) from the free throw line. Indiana holds a 102-44 lead over Kentucky on the men’s side and have swept the two-game series every season since 2009, with the exception of a split in 2017. In Game one the Lawrence North product scored a team-high 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the floor as the Indiana All-Stars blitzed the Kentucky All-Stars, 104-77, on Friday night. Gunn played 23 minutes in the game and added four rebounds, two assists and a steal. In Game two Gunn paced the Indiana team in scoring with 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor. He also connected on 3-of-7 shots from behind the 3-point arc and 6-of-6 attempts from the free throw line. Gunn secured four rebounds in 18 minutes of run in the victory.
 
Gunn is one of four scholarship players that make up the 2022 signing class for the Indiana men’s basketball team. He joins Montverde Academy teammates Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau and Georgia Class 4A Player of the Year Kaleb Banks as incoming freshmen. The quartet gives IU the eighth-ranked recruiting class in the country according to 247Sports, its highest ranking since 2013 when it boasted the fourth-best class in the country. The class is ranked eighth by ESPN.com and 13th by Rivals.com.

Indiana University Track & Field completes outdoor season at NCAA Championships
Indiana University Track & Field Completed the 2022 Outdoor season at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene Oregon. on Thursday Paola Fernandez-Sola kicked off the meet for the Hoosiers as she competed in the long jump. Fernandez-Sola leaped a mark of 6.18m (20′ 3.5″) and finished in 14th is an All-American Second Team selection. This is the first of her career. Maddy Pollard placed 16th in the shot put with a mark of 16.63m (54′ 6.75″) to earn Second Team All-American honors. Jayden Ulrich competed in the shot put as she put a mark of 16.62m (54′ 6.5″) to place 17th. on Saturday Mahogany Jenkins competed in the high jump where she cleared a height of 1.72m (5 7.75″) good for a 20th place finish. She’s finished the season as an All-American Honorable Mention. Ulrich saw the chance to compete in flight one of the discus but did not advance after she had a foul on her first attempt taking her out of the competition.
  
Indianapolis Colts sign former Indiana University Football Player Jason Spriggs
The Indianapolis Colts have signed offensive tackle Jason Spriggs to a free agent contract. Spriggs played at Concord High School in Elkhart Indiana graduating in 2012. He played for IU from 2012-15 and was the 48th overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers in the second round. Spriggs played with the Packers from 2016-19, The Chicago Bears in 2020 before joining the Atlanta Falcons for the 2021 season. Spriggs has played in 59 career games started 10 of them and has two fumble recoveries.

Four IHSAA State Champions crowned in Softball at Purdue University
The IHSAA Softball State Championships were held at Purdue University Friday and Saturday as four state champions were crowned for the 2022 Softball season. Friday Night in Class 1A Tecumseh beat South Central Union Mills 11-5 as the Braves win its 4th state title in school history. In Class 3A South Bend St Joesph’s beat Tri West 1-0 in 9 innings. It was a pitcher’s duel between Aubrey Lowry of Tri West and Bailey Zache of South Bend St Joesph’s. Lowry gave up 1 hit and struck out 22 batters. Zache had 20 strikeouts, gave up 5 hits and did not allow a walk.

Saturday in Class 2A Eastside beat North Posey 2-1. It is Eastside’s second state title with the first coming in 1998. In Class 4A Roncalli capped off a 33-0 season with a 16-0 dominating win over Harrison (West Lafayette). The Royals became the first team and the fifth team ever since Class 2A South Putnam squad in 2012 to go undefeated. Roncalli wins back-to-back state championships and has a 46-game winning streak that is 2nd only to Lake Central who had 47 game winning streak in 2004-05. Junior pitcher Keagan Rothrock who is considered the best high school softball player in the nation finished with a 28-0 record as she struck out 15 in the circle allowing 2 hits and 1 walk. Rothrock went 1-3 at the plate with an RBI with a walk and was named the 2022 Gatorade HS Softball Player of The Year in the State of Indiana.

Indians Take Two Out Of Three Against Columbus

The Indianapolis Indians beat Columbus Clippers 5-4 Friday Evening and 12-7 Saturday Evening before losing the series finale 11-5 Sunday Afternoon at Victory Field in Indianapolis. The Indians won four out of the six games in this series. Indianapolis is 30-28 while Columbus is 35-25 on the season. The Indians will head to Gwinnett to begin six game series tomorrow night at 7:05pm.\
