Indiana Secretary of State resigns
Connie Lawson, the Indiana Secretary of State announced her intent to resign. Lawson has spent three decades in public service to Hoosiers, starting as the Clerk of the Hendricks County Circuit Court, an Indiana Senator, and since 2012, the Secretary of State, when she was appointed by former Governor Mitch Daniels. Secretary Lawson oversaw our state elections with integrity and efficiency, cleaning the voter rolls and introducing cyber security measures. She cited health and family as the rationale for stepping down, and said, “I will work with Governor Holcomb to ensure our next Secretary of State is up to the task and has the tools and resources to hit the ground running.”

Constitutional Carry set for March of 2022
Indiana may soon become the 18th state to enact Constitutional Carry, as Indiana House Bill 1369 moves forward in Committee. Under the proposed legislation, Hoosiers legally permitted to own a handgun soon will no-longer be required to obtain a state license to carry it in public, with government no-longer infringing on bearing arms. If passed into law, the measure will take effect in March of 2022. Convicted felons, fugitives, individuals not legally present in the United States, people convicted of domestic violence or criminal stalking, adjudicated mentally defective, dishonorably discharged from the military or National Guard, and individuals under the age of 18 would still be unable to carry a handgun in public.

City of Bloomington Sanitation Services for Tuesday, February 16 Postponed
Bloomington, Ind. – Due to the anticipated cold temperatures and snow accumulation, the City of Bloomington Sanitation Division has announced that collection on Tuesday, February 16 will be postponed. At this time, Tuesday’s routes are scheduled for pickup on Wednesday if conditions are deemed safe.  That determination will be announced on Tuesday afternoon or evening. If Tuesday’s routes are collected on Wednesday, Wednesday’s routes would be scheduled for collection on Thursday.  A forecast showing additional accumulation overnight on Wednesday could further postpone collection to Friday for sanitation customers whose normal collection day is Wednesday.  In that event, those sanitation customers whose normal collection day is Thursday would be scheduled for Saturday pickup.  City staff is continuously monitoring weather conditions, and will announce updates as determinations are made.
